I love this phone!
This is a great phone. I recently retired my 8 yr. old Panasonic landline phone when I converted my landline to a smartphone. Panasonic was first with "Talking Caller ID" and that feature has sold me on their phones for years. I had a published number and got a lot of telemarketing calls. Within a month of switching to a smartphone, I was really missing my old house phones. Running to find the cell when it rang was a real pain. Then my buddy told me about his Panasonic Link2Cell phone that patched any cell phone calls into his cordless house phones. I was excited!! After much research, I settled on the KX-TGE463S with 3 handsets. Since I have a cell only configuration, I don't use the built in answering system. Those calls now go to voicemail. The other features are just fantastic and have made answering calls at home just as easy and convenient as it used to be with my landline. Key features are the ability to download your cell phonebook to the house phones, audible notification of incoming text messages, talking caller ID and the ability to use two cell phones with the system. There are numerous other features like intercom and key fob locator, which I don't use. Basically, I now have phones around the house where I can make and receive cell phone calls as easily as I did on the landline. Talking caller ID lets me know if I should bother getting up to answer a call. The sound quality is excellent and these phones use the 1.9 GHz frequencies, so they don't conflict with your home wifi. They also have software that cleans up the sound quality (useful on cell calls). My mother is blind and has long had Panasonic phones with the talking caller ID feature. I was so happy with mine that I bought one of these for her. She has a landline and smartphone. Now, when she's at home all of her calls (cell and landline) will come through the same house phones and clearly announce who is calling. I highly recommend these for anyone with a smartphone. Now when I come home, I put my smartphone on the charger near the Panasonic base and don't have to worry about missing calls or texts. It makes having a cellphone as convenient as my old landline phones when I'm at home.

For Both Cell Phones & Landlines . . . .
The description of this item on this page is a bit confusing, because it makes the phone system seem like it's only for cell phones, when it's for a landline, too. It can be used strictly as a landline phone; or can be used with both a landline and one or two cell phones; or can be used with only a cell phone or two. I was envisioning turning my cell phone into a landline phone without the need for a landline. Why? Because I really don't like cell phones and feeling chained to one. Yet landlines are big trouble when they aren't working right, and repair people have to come out and you have to be home, and all phones have to be checked, and sometimes yards have to be dug up to find damaged lines, etc. The only problem with my vision is this phone's answering system is only for a landline. Thus, it's probably best for someone who wants to combine all their phones at home; so they only have to use one phone to make and receive calls; not two or three. Or for someone who just wants a landline phone system. This Panasonic system has some really nice features, too. One I've never seen before is a call block button on each handset. Yes, folks, just hit that button when telemarketing calls are being received or when the answering system is recording a message from them. You can also program it to block specific numbers, ranges of numbers (specific area codes or toll free numbers), and calls that have no phone numbers. And how many numbers can you block? A lot more than the old Panasonic phones use to block. It's gone from what use to be like 25 to 250 numbers! Add to that feature, large lighted numbers on each handset, big "off" and "talk" buttons, a menu button you can't miss, as well as a very nice "vol. + -" button on the side of the handset, and you have a phone system that's great for both elder consumers who only want an easy-to-use and understand landline phone, and for younger consumers who want a system with lots and lots of features. This system has too many features to possibly tackle in a review. Fortunately, it comes with an excellent paper user manual, that explains all those features and how to use them. It can even be used as an alarm clock, an intercom system and a nursery monitor. Moreover, it can find all handsets, a connected cell phone and your keys. The key feature requires a key detector that must be bought separately, however, and you can only program the system to find one cell phone. That's because you can only store one cell phone number to be found, and you must have a second cell phone or a landline connected to call that number if you are looking for it. Having one cell phone only connected to the system doesn't work, because that cell phone can't call itself. (Are you still with me here?) Talking about numbers, you can also store ALL your phone book entries in this system from both paired and non-paired cell phones. That's 3000 to be exact! Oh, and you can use a Bluetooth wireless headset for landline calls.Yes, it's truly impressive all that this Panasonic phone set can do. For me, though, it's not quite what I wanted or needed, but that's okay. It only took me a minute or two to pair my cell phone with the system, and I have a flip phone. Of course, it also works with iPhones and Android phones, and I'm sure those two type of phones are what Panasonic had in mind when they created this system. Nevertheless, my old flip phone does work well with it, even though it can't take advantage of all the features available to smartphone users. But then, I wasn't looking for a lot of fancy features. I was just looking to turn my cell phone into a landline. That did work to a point. I can make and receive calls without picking up my cell phone, and the sound is excellent. But my cell phone must always be on and charged, and I have to check it for voice mail and texts. Oh well. I'm not going back to a landline, and this Panasonic is the best thing available right now for turning my cell phone into a landline, that will never need repair service from the phone or cable company.Update 9/28: After following the directions in the manual for selecting a special ringtone for a phonebook GROUP, I had no luck doing so; and began to wonder if that feature was even available on this model of the phone, since the manual is for five different models. Thus, I contacted Panasonic support using "Live Chat", since there seemed to be no e-mail option and I didn't care to talk on the phone. The first rep disconnected the chat before I had time to describe the problem. So, if you use chat, make sure you type a greeting right after the rep starts the chat, and then type out your problem. With the second rep, I told her immediately not to end the chat like the previous agent did. She did not and did solve my problem. I will now state the directions here, in case anyone else misunderstands the directions in the manual, which I believe are confusing. To assign a specific ringtone to a GROUP or to rename one . . .and you cannot rename groups HOME, CELL 1 or CELL 2, but can assign them a special ringtone . . .push the MENU button -> when PHONEBOOK appears, push SELECT -> DO NOT PUSH THE GROUP BUTTON AT THAT TIME (my mistake) -> but push MENU again -> then, scroll to GROUP -> push SELECT -> then scroll through the ringtone selections, until you find the one you want. For changing names or ringtones for GROUPS 4-9, there will be both a GROUP NAME option, as well as a CURRENT RINGER option.

Works just like a phone should
This is virtually the exact phone we already had but a newer version. So far it seems to be working just fine.

Not all the features are easy to use
This phone set is okay. I owned a different version of the Panasonic phone set a few years ago and preferred it. I find the function keys difficult to use sometimes.
