Don't listen to all the naysayers who say; "smaller than expected" "too dim - barely a nightlight" "flimsy" "cheap" ...... The product description tells you 100% of what you are getting. 5"x5"x11" in size... I would not "expect" something 24 inches tall, when it told me the dimensions in precise detail. Mine measure EXACTLY 5x5x11. So I got EXACTLY what I was expecting. Regarding "too dim"... again, product DESCRIPTION says it comes with a 5 watt bulb. Just how bright do you think a 5 watt bulb is??? This is NOT a "lamp", it is a decoration. "Flimsy"?? Nothing of the sort. Again, purchased buy those who have no clue what hand made oriental decorations are supposed to be. "Cheap"?? For eighteen bucks, I call it a great bargain!! .... Now, my description of this. It is hand made from wood and "heavy" paper. Hand made mean you assemble with care and patience. Only has four screws so it take all of two minutes. If you assemble it carefully it goes together just fine. No, it is not a perfect fitting CNC machined product... it isn't supposed to be. I was stationed at Okinawa Japan for almost 5 years (20 years ago) and have seen and bought many products like this, and can tell you this nice little lamp is EXACTLY what you see in just about every home in Japan. If you are "afraid" to assemble anything, just go look elsewhere. If you have held a Phillips screwdriver in your hands a number of times, assembly is an extremely trivial task. ... While the bulb it came with is as described, I happened to have a 7 watt CF bulb with the right socket on it to put in it. (See picture for brightness) I LOVE THIS LITTLE GUY, and I'm going to buy more of these. They have a lot of different patterns to chose from. .... If you have one of these and think it is too dim, just plop in a 4-7 watt CF or an 3-4 watt LED bulb and you'll be very pleased. Enjoy!!!

I used to live back in Japan - and used to see these lamps around - and i always loved them and i was fortunate to find some on here and I purchased 2 of these little guys and i can honestly tell you that I did fall in love with them it. The art work is very beautiful and is exactly like the ones i saw back home. Yes - You do have to assemble them but it only has 4 screws and with some patience this can be built in under 2 minutes. Flimsy? Not at all. As I mentioned you need to be patient and careful when building this lamp. Precision is key - and if you feel like its still not right - a little glue can help as well. Too Dim? No - Just perfect! These lamps are supposed to be like the traditional candle lamps used back in china/japan before electricity came into play. It may seem that the lighting to be too dim - but when you turn off all the lights and let your eyes adjust to the low lighting - You can see the real beauty of this lamp. The bulb that does come with it gives it that perfect low glow. You can get a stronger bulb if you like - but keep in mind that this is paper and the heat of the bulb can cause it to burn. Its a perfect type of small lamp meant for a bedroom - gives you a nice relaxing lighting or a romantic feel. I HIGHLY Recommend getting more of these :)

The design on this lamp is truly beautiful. I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend who is Japanese and loves asian decor, and she loved it. It is a bit smaller than I expected it to be, however that's my own fault because it clearly says the size in the listing. This is definitely a small bedside lamp or decoration only lamp, not a floor lamp or anything like that. The bulb isn't very bright, however that is not an issue to me. If you're looking for a very bright lamp, however, then you won't want to get this. Although I imagine you could just buy your own bulb that has a higher wattage. I personally like that the wattage is low, as it casts a really relaxing, nice glow to my room when it's on. The only annoying this and reason for the 4 star rating is the assembly portion. Yes, you have to assemble it yourself, however, it's small so it's not like there is that much to do. My issue is that it isn't very sturdy, and it's not manufactured very well (even though it is beautiful). The grooves and holes don't match up very well; I kind of had to create my own hole for one of the nails. I don't think this could withstand a lot of manhandling or something, as previous reviews have stated that it's very delicate, although I'm not sure why you would be throwing a lamp around in the first place... I plan on getting another one as a gift since she likes this one so much. Overall, if your main goal is getting a very pretty, unique bedside lamp, then I'd recommend this. However, if you're unwilling to take the time to put this together, get frustrated easily, or want something that is less delicate and more sturdy, then I'd look into getting something else.
