Blasts cold air quickly! Easy to use and very convenient to have!
I have not heard of JHS brand before, so you can imagine my hesitancy in having a JHS portable ac unit rather than buying a current known brand in the US. However, I am glad I took the plunge because this unit has been awesome so far! If you are looking for a smaller AC unit in the 5,000 – 10,000 BTU range, this is definitely worth considering.I was able to use the JHS portable AC right out of the box, with minimal assembly (if I can even call it that). In fact, for effective cooling, the only thing you really need to do is secure the window exhaust attachments, which is not very difficult to do with this unit. It’s really built to make it easy to use, without having to require an AC technician if you are already a do-it-yourself kind of guy. Everything already fits like a puzzle, you just need to connect it together. I was able to do it without reading the manual, but a manual is included for those who might need the extra guidance.Do you need to put the exhaust tube in place? To be more effective, yes, I would suggest you do so. While the AC is running, heat is being exhausted from the back and cool air is being blown to the front. For initial cooling, yes, the room will definitely get cold. But eventually, you’re making the unit work pointlessly if you don’t exhaust this heat to the outside because they’ll be working against each other (in essence, cancelling each other out in the long run and making your machine run harder). So in short, make sure this heat is exhausted out if you have the air conditioner.Does it get really cold? Yes it does! During my bench tests, the cooling system worked very well. In fact, when I set the cooling temperature to 72 degrees, cold air blasts out immediately. The initial blasts were consistently in the 60’s, as you can see in the photos below. At one point, I had an initial blast of high 50’s range to get the room to the desired setting as fast as possible! What I like about this JHS AC unit is that it is a multi-purpose unit. You can use it as a fan, as an air conditioner cooling system, and as a dehumidifier. You can easily change from one setting to another with just the push of a button on the face of the unit, or on the included remote control which is a convenient bonus in itself! The timer is also a convenient feature, and allows up to 24-hours setting. The LED screen is very useful, because it tells you exactly what you are pressing.Overall, I’m satisfied with this purchase. In fact, I prefer it now over the 5,000 BTU window AC units, which I have used in the past. Eventually, my plan is to use this on a homemade camper trailer project that I’m gonna be working on this year. It will be a much better option, as far as installation and function is concerned.I sure do hope it will endure the test of time! At least, I'm happy it comes with a 1-yr warranty.

Quality product.
We needed a portable unit for our media room/library/home office and this unit is perfect. The room is not large, about 150 sf, and the 8000 btu size cools the room quickly and comfortably. The specifications note this unit has a max of 170 sf, so for our room, perfect. The arrived well packaged and in an upright position. The company advises that you let the unit stand upright for 24 hrs just to be sure the coolant in the compressor is properly in its place, which we did, they advise this for best practice and operation.Unpacking is easy, the small amount of assembly is easy (good instructions), and installation in our doublehung window was quick. The unit is a bit heavy, so if locating up a set of stairs, consider a friend to help. The unit has casters so moving around the room is very easy. Also the controls are simple to operate. And it is good looking. Noise level is only modest, not loud at all. Talking while the unit is operating is fine, the volume on your tv may need to be a bit higher while this is in operation.Overall, a very good product, I would highly recommend.

Great for a small room or power outages
I live in Florida where hurricanes are just part of living in this state. I needed a portable ac unit that would cool a small room if I hooked it up to a portable generator. This unit was a brand I'd never heard of before out of China. It had decent reviews so I figured I'd take a chance. Well....about two months after my purchase Hurricane Irma slammed into Florida. My power went out for a full week. I hooked it up in my den, started up my generator outside and suddenly one room of my house became livable again. If you don't live in Florida you have no clue what real humidity heat is like. Not only is it ungodly hot but the humidity makes everything in your house damp. That little unit worked night and day, seven days a week for an entire week and did a good job of cooling that little room. Why not five stars? Well, it is loud, similar to a hair drier on low. It also keeps the room cool but not cold. It struggled with the Florida heat. Would I buy it again? Yes but I'd probably go with a 10,000 btu unit if they offered it to keep everything a bit cooler. One other plus was delivery. It was quick and the unit itself was very well packaged. No dents or damage at all.

Inexpensive, light-weight, and really cools things down!
The media could not be loaded. This was a risky buy at the time I purchased it, as it had no reviews and I couldn't find any info on JHS. It seems like most portable ACs on the market these days are all being manufactured in bulk and sold under different brand names, so there's not much deviation in terms of functionality and quality. In general, they all seem to work fairly well regardless of brand.I was drawn to this particular model due to its low price (at the time it was $250 with no tax and free 2-day Prime shipping) combined with a good energy efficiency rating and a nice list of features, including weighing only 44 pounds. So far, I am very pleased with its performance. I haven't had to drain water at all and I use it for 6-8 hours a day, every day. Unfortunately my room is incredibly hot--it can reach 90+ degrees by noon under the California sun, so I don't think any AC can cool this room down on these hot summer days. However, it feels great when I point it directly at myself and that's good enough for me. But when it's overcast or night time, it does blow REALLY chilly air and cools the room fast.Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and feel I made the right choice.
