World Book on CD-ROM: A Great Purchase
This CD-ROM contains all of the information that the 22-volume print edition has, plus a media CD-ROM with audio and video of such things as the call of Australia's Kookaburra bird, and a video of a red kangaroo's enormous hops.A strength of this encyclopedia is that the reading level of all articles is consistent; other encyclopedias often have articles which vary from basic information and vocabulary, to others which are quite complex and beyond the comprehension level of most students. These articles are aimed at readers from middle school through high school.The navigation of the site is easy, and makes sense. Searches by word or topic are possible, and any word in any article can be highlighted and double clicked to hear its pronunciation, and read its definition. Highly recommended. Free updates of information, such as political changes/election results since 2006, are available and downloadable at no charge from the software's website. This is a great resource for students. I'm sure more recent editions continue the excellence.
