Three-Phase Conversion: Running Three-phase Equipment on Single Phase Supplies (Workshop Practice)

It is a good book, but I wish it had more up to date information about VFD’s and power electronics.

I pump out of the river near my home and needed a big pump (3 phase) but only have singe phase power. I bought an inverter that was supposed to do that for me but I needed to understand what I was giving up and how to test that I had it configured optimally. This book is unique since it is written so that semi-technical people like me can understand what my options are. This book is excellent in explaining how and why and also options to accomplish the end result. I ended up testing the inverter that I bought trying different configurations trying to optimize it's output. I finally was satisfied that the stock inverter had done all that was possible to accomplish this. I feel now that I could design and build an inverter from parts and actually have it work. The internet has solutions but this book was necessary to understand what I would be doing and how to optimize the outcome. Thanks to the author of this book, I now feel safe with my configuration. Great resource for amatures like me to finally understand Three Phase function and circuits. I highly recommend this book.

A ok book

The book starts with the basics of A-C induction motors, and how to calculate the various properties required to run a 3 phase motor on a single phase.The book is written by an author in the UK. The book the examples are for the UK power system (240 Volts, 50Hz), with notes and details power system in other parts of the world (North America(110Volts, 60Hz), Japan(100Volts, 50 or 60 Hz), EU, and Australia) and it has an appendix specifically about the power in the USA. If you understand the basics in the first 3 chapters, then the different power systems are not a big deal.I would recommend this book to other people buying used 3 phase equipment.A neat aspect of the book is the author is donating the proceeds to charity... I thought this was cool.

As described, arrived fast after it was finally shipped. Delayed almost a month before shipped. No explanation why.

Excellent book. Lots of information about how 3 phase converters work. Absent the folksy, idiotic text of another book on this same subject that I purchased. If you're not familiar with electricity, you'll have to do some digging, but it is worth it. Even with a minimal understanding, you'll understand the material here, and even if you don't build your own, this information will help you buy an off-the-shelf converter intelligently.

EXCELLENT. A great series. I collected them all. Really a once-read book but I got a lot of good ideas and information from it. If you need to know (more) about three phase conversion, this is the book for you. I don't think there is a single topic not covered.

A interesting book. I still read it on occasion.

A nice read. Plenty of useful info and plenty of warnings for those trying things out for the first time.

This series of books including this one are good but increasingly old fashioned, they are of interest to those requiring information on older systems and techniques.

well written good starter book on phase converters for those building one or upgrading, excellent.

I can highly recommend this book which has allowed me an in depth knowledge of the three-phase electric motor and supply.there quite a bit of maths at the front but with a little peserverance even I have a clear understanding of RMS etc.I can also recommend the whole of this series of books as i have a few others as well.Well written by an expert.

A useful product. An excellent explanation of 3 phase theory.
