Shipped with two dents (packaged well, no damage on the box)
The darbuka arrived with two dents. It was packaged well, and it appears the dents were there before it was shipped. Judging by how well it was packed, the shipper must have seen the dents before shipping. Very disappointed. This was my second order from the Zaza store, and the first order arrived perfectly. Unfortunately leaves me no choice but to return it. My first darbuka, which was half the price, sounds and looks better than this one. This darbuka is made of cast aluminum and is much too thick to get a decent "dum" sound. The body of the darbuka needs to be made with a thinner wall to get a decent resonant sound. Ornamental drawings were made with a shaky hand, but the gloss finish seemed OK. The bag is very flimsy (no padding) and would rip very easily. No tuning key came with it. You can make music with it if you tune it skillfully, but there are other products out there that sound and look better for a cheaper price tag. Not an instrument worthy of the price tag ($164.69 with tax). Even though I am disappointed with this product, the Zaza store seems OK. They need to be more careful with what they ship.

Arrived damaged
Not sure if $135 would get you anything better but this review is for the damage at the lip of the instrument!

Selection and pricing
The media could not be loaded. Just got my new Zaza darbuka the other day, it arrived a couple days early. I love it already. Over the past few years, I have ordered several drums and accessories from Frank at Darbuka Planet. I have to say, the selection and prices keep me coming back. And when I had a little trouble figuring out how to tune a drum just right, Frank helped me out, as he has before. And the selection..... they just seem to have everything and anything. But ya gotta check out the beautiful artwork on the new mother of pearl darbukas from GAF. I just have no idea how they create those patterns and styles, and the sweet colors, just stunning. In this case, I got a simpler model, by zaza, for ease of carrying around and playing around a fire with friends. For the price, the sound is clean, with a deep resonate bass and good clarity on the tek and ka. If you look around, like I did, you might just find yourself back here when you compare. Thanks guys.

shipped twice & damaged; no tuning key, case not padded -- would be a good cheap drum
This is a lightweight cheap/affordable drum, and functions as you would expect (no better than masterwork or the economy Sala, for example). The ridges/waves on the outside are ALSO on the inside and do affect the sound slightly.HOWEVER in the descriptions it says it comes with a padded drum case and a tuning key; it does not. The case is really really thin with only a handhold strap.AND I tried ordering this twice and it is an Amazon packaging issue that it arrives dented with one or multiple dents on the shell where it just hits the side of the shipping box.
