does this just shave ice or can you get crushed ice also?

It only shaves ice, but you could use it like a hammer to crush ice I guess

replacement blade would be great to be able to purchase? I assume the blade will not last a long time if heavy use. Hawaiian Ice S900 sells one.

It's been over 8 years still like it come out the box . We use it about 6time a day in the Winter but Triple that in the summer! It's great for parties

What is the clear tube used for? Too many different answers?

There is a place that it fits to drain the water left over from excess ice. I am not using it. I find that a 2 cup scoop of ice makes exactly what is necessary for a 16 oz cup. Hardly ever have ice left over in the hopper. I am using this item allot in my ice cream truck, and it works great. Shaves a 16 oz cup in 30 seconds.

Can you use solid block disc vs ice cubes?

No, the receiver cup is small Therefore you would have to break the block up
