Great Camera with high(long) zoom.
Before I bought this Fujifilm Fine Pix SL300, I have read so many customers' reviews. Most of them are positive and only few are unsatsifactory. Then, after testing this camera for a few days, I really love this camera because it has all the functions it claims and easy to use it. Panorama is amazingly easy to use. The quality of the pictures I took is extremely clear and bright.(above my expectation). As for other functions, I have to read the user's manual to test them out and they are easy to use in the end. Even though this is a entry level for SLR camera, it's already good enough for me since I am NOT using it professionally. Most SLR costs a lot but this one is an inexpensive model for you to see if you need to go to the sophiscated model. Like my wife said: "This model is complicated enough, don't give me more functions. I only need to take some clear pictures and video. I will be very satisfied if the quality of photos and video is bright & clear." Overall, I'd recommend this camera to others.

Nice little camera.
My wife is an advanced amateur photographer. As often as not when we are in the car, she sees something and says, "Oh darn, I don't have my camera with me!" After hearing this time & time again, I got her the Fujifilm SL300 specifically to keep in the car. Our Canon XSi is 12MP, and with the L series lenses she uses, the quality is very nice. I hoped this camera would be suitable for occasional shots that would go missed without a camera.I chose the Fuji camera for the 30X optical zoom and 14MP density. Most shots she sees are nature, birds and wildlife when out and about. I also figured that the viewfinder, in addition to the onscreen viewing, would allow her to use the camera as she does the SLR.She's had it a couple weeks now and is quite happy with the results. A few of the shots have been posted on our webpage, [...] and compare favorably with other shots. The zoom is very good and delivers crisp results. She's learning the ins & outs and has many features yet to try. The camera is easy to understand, and follows many of the standards found on the Canon SLR. The SD cards are the same as our Canon, so no problem there.CONS:The viewfinder is a bit cumbersome to use. Instead of showing the image through the lens, it is a projected view. There is a small wheel that allows you to focus the viewfinder, but it is easier to look at the screen than adjust the viewfinder. The camera will not turn on if the lens cover is still in place; a message is displayed on the screen. You have to shut the power back off, take off the lens cover and restart the camera. That deer or turkey beside the road will be gone before she can get that done if she is in a hurry and forgets. The battery life is rather short, but that can be from spending time exploring the features. The battery is a rechargeable pack specific to this camera. You can't pop in some extra AA batteries. We'll need to charge the battery in the house, or get a car charger for our purpose. So, overall it is a nice little camera that fits our need. Reasonable quality, lightweight, long range and at a good price.

Great Camera for the Price
This camera takes beautiful photos very simply. As an amateur photographer and not having the time or funds to explore the fancy cameras, I find this camera to be perfect for my needs. I can quickly and easily photograph my daughter or scenery on vacation. This is the best money can buy if your price range is $150-200.The only thing I dislike about this camera is that it is a tad too automatic. I wish that on the rare day I have the time to customize the settings that I would have more options. But for the price, it is a wonderful camera.UPDATE:I was able to use this camera over the weekend in D.C. (Two moths after purchase.) This is the first trip I've taken it on and the first time I've had the opportunity to really see what it can do.I set it on automatic and took several pictures as we walked. If I didn't stop completely, the photos turned out blurry. I did get some beautiful photos of the Washington and Lincoln Memorial at sunset. The color wasn't as vivid in the photos, but that is an easy editing fix. When we were at Ford's Theatre, I had the most difficult time trying to get a decent photo in low lighting. I ended up snapping a few with my iPhone - which much to my surprise turned out quite crisp and clear.I still must say, for the price, I am quite pleased with this purchase.

Just what I was looking for!
I was very lucky to be able to buy this on a lightening deal on Thanksgiving day. My camera arrived Monday afternoon in perfect condition.I wanted a camera with a really good, sharp optical zoom and a great macro too. I took photos yesterday and today both zoomed and in the macro mode. Learning the camera takes a little getting used to so be sure to read the manual. The LCD shows an up close view of the item you were taking the photo of after you take the photo, if what you wanted in focus isn't just right, click to move the part you wanted in focus onto the center of the LCD screen and take another photo. Somehow, the cameras is able to sense from this action the area to focus on.Haven't needed the flash, video or panorama yet so I cannot comment on these.I added a 32GB flash card (be sure it is class 10) and bought two more batteries on Amazon. The camera includes a nice neck strap as well as a lens cover. The camera reminds me very much of my 35mm Pentax from 30 years ago. Seems between a true digital SLR and a point and shot digital.I recommend this only to people who really love photography that cannot afford a higher end DSLR. Not a camera for those who only know how to point and shoot.I can tell this is going to be my favorite of all my digital cameras! Can't wait to go to the zoo or nature area.

Fine Pix
Amazon's gold box deal couldn't have come at a better time! I could not afford to replace my late, much lamented DSLR camera. So I've been trying to adapt to birding without a camera and just enjoying the sights as they happen rather than recording them for study and identification later. Definitely lessened the pleasure for me. So when the Fujifilm Finepix SL300 came available at a price I could squeeze out of my budget, I jumped at it!I ordered the red body - doesn't affect the camera in any way, but I love the cheery brightness of it. I've taken it out birding several times now, and have to say I am quite happy with it. I'm not a camera pro, so all the technical stuff is beyond me. It doesn't have quite the performance of my Canon EOS Rebel T1i, nor did I expect it to. But it easily outperforms my first digital camera, the Olympus SP510-UZ, and it was a darn sight less expensive than either of those.I've been able to take identifiable photos of small birds in trees up to 25 - 30 feet high above me, even in dim light, and the burst shooting has helped me record several really cool in-flight shots as well. The optical zoom stays clear and focused the whole way to 30x although the pictures get a bit grainy in low light. The controls are easy to use, basically consistent with both of my previous digital cameras, so the learning curve is not too steep. There are lots of options to tailor your photography to difference circumstances, and the SR-Auto mode selects the options that best match conditions in most cases. As with all auto-focus cameras, there is sometimes a discrepancy between what you think you're taking the picture of, and what the camera thinks (and focuses on). But less frequently than I expected. SR-Auto seems to know what it's doing. That's the good part. The most significant drawback I've noticed is that the battery doesn't hold the charge very long. I had to recharge after 82 shots. With the Canon I usually got over 1000 shots on a single charge, and the Olympus was usually good for at least 500 or so. If that continues, I will have to get a case of extra batteries, as I routinely shoot a thousand pictures or more per outing. Also, I miss the 400mm lens, and the digiscope conversion capability that I had with the Canon, so I will probably continue to save up for the dream DSLR setup, but in the meantime, I expect to spend several years of good birding, taking perfectly adequate shots with this camera. And if I ever get the dream setup, I know I will have a reliable backup to take along when I go out.

Fun Fujiilm Camera
Years ago I sold 35mm SLR cameras, even spent $1000 for a Nikon F2....this was when I was in my 20's and 30's...I am 65 now and do not have the patience for F/stops, shutter speeds, etc. This SL-300 digital really filled my needs. Excellent design, tho took a bit to figure all the settings out. The video feature is nice too, for short 10 minute clips,etc....a bit grainy but this unit is NOT meant to sub for HD camcorder, but had fun with clips on New Years eve. The pictures are very clear(14 MP enuff for me). The price point from Amazon is a steal. Then got the suggested Case logic carrying case, a 16gb transend memory card. VERY HAPPY with this purchase at a great price and fast shipping. The LCD 3" screen is nice, too. Also like the ability to use LCD OR the Viewfinder to frame shots. The View finder helps in bright sunlight. GREAT PRODUCT!

picture happy
my daughter loved her camera, she loves taking pics and this camera has given her a start to something she loves to do! it is a little slow on the zoom and u have to remember to remove the lens cap or it will jam the lens but over all is a pretty good starter camera!

Great camera for the price!
Although I've only been using this camera for two weeks, I'm pleased with it. I love the long zoom. I can't wait for spring to take lots of outdoor pictures. Inside shots have been fine. It's a simple camera, so easy to use. With a grandchild on the way, I know I'll be using the baby mode constantly. I really enjoy the mode where you take one picture, but it takes it with and without flash, so you are able to choose the one you like best. Just getting to know the camera, but I've noticed the color seems very true in my pictures.
