I have been relying on the HP 12C and TI BAII+ Pro for financial calculations and bought the 2nd edition of Casio FC-100V expecting something similarly powerful and efficient. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The keys lack the positive, tactile “click” feeling I am used to on the HP 12C and. The key presses feel softer and provide less feedback, which makes the calculator less satisfying to use when entering calculations quickly. The display is another major weakness. The dotted-style characters make the numbers and text more difficult to read compared with the much clearer display of the HP 12C. This is made worse by the relatively poor contrast. More frustratingly, I could not get comma separators to appear in calculation results even after enabling the Digit Separator setting. When working with large figures in the hundreds of thousands or millions, this makes the results unnecessarily difficult to read at a glance. I also previously used the original legacy Casio FC-100, and I found that older model much simpler and easier to use especially for solving eoutine TVM problems with less keystrokes. This new model of FC-100V relies heavily on menus. For TVM, statistics, and other financial calculations, you often have to navigate through menus and use more keystrokes than on the HP 12C. For professional use, I want a financial calculator that helps me reach the answer quickly, especially when working under time pressure, rather than having to remember which menu contains each function. Students should also check the rules of their specific professional qualification exams before buying, as this calculator may not be approved for use in some examinations. Overall, the FC-100V is certainly capable, but I expected much better usability, display readability, and keyboard feel at a price of US$ 60 range. For this price range, I would rather buy an HP 12C or a Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional.

maybe not what I should have bought but a bit dunno, understaffed? somehow not the Casio FINANCIAL I was expecting.. feels and looks like a fx-350 with extra programming and missing some important finance bits so as not to encroach on the fc-200. the way the programmed buttons work, not the best thought out - for me.. I'm definitely not best qualified to review but don't like using it.. Casios are MUCH MUCH nicer to look at now - and for that huge thank you! no longer embarrassed to have one on my desk - so in that respect a huge improvement. sorry but, big fan, looks good, works, just a bit of a miss for me... don't change the looks - well - maybe as a nitpick to current casio style..
