Shogun (Asian Saga) Mass Market Paperback – September 1, 1986

An excellent read from this stranded pilots perspective leaving the stench of European life to the culture shock of feudal Japan and Samurai life where an insult or foul language and a Samurai's order could lose you your head and a dishonor to ones lord or family could lead to ritual suicide.. And of course the eye opening look at the curse of who and what the the catholic church called inferior.. Truly an adventure for any naive soul with the simpleton belief that Europe was the seat of enlightened thinking as far as medicine and hygiene...

I am only 100 pages into the book but it's extremely well written and very captivating. Although the story is fictional, I do believe that much of the culture, customs, traditions, and politics are accurate for the time period in question. This book will suck you in from the start.

I could not put the book down. It pulls you in as if you are also there. Great Read.

Great characters, story and historical events. I read it 40 years ago and it was a joy to revisit old friends.

My sister was enthralled with this book in high school. She then read the entire series. Years later I did the same. Among our favorites. Now my high school-age son is reading it. The historical research, emotional insights, suspense, and contextual scene-setting invite an escape from the real world while providing opportunities to apply these concepts to our current lives. A classic.

excellent read engrossing?

Given as a gift for Christmas, my daughter is loving this story as much as I did decades ago. Can’t wait for the movie.

Excelente libro

Well presented with a good size typeface. Bought this as a present and was surprised at the size of this book compared to my own copy. Much easier to read this new volume. Read my copy twice, might read again. Cobtains great detail, other reviewers have commented that it is too wordy, that was not my experience. A page turner when you are into it and I was at the end all too soon

What a wonderful book.Super way of writing and developed the story around Blackthorne (the main character // alias William Adams) after his boat ground in Japan. A nice development showing differences between Japan and European and how human being interact with stranger.Love, war, fight, history... everything is into the book and you can not stop reading once you begin. The story Tokugawa Ieyasu is wonderfully writtenI loved it and I recommend it !
