Gets better
I'm very satisfied with mine. There is no perfect scan tool, but this is one of the good ones. I’d like to address some things I’ve seen in the reviews. One reviewer said it is slow. Um, no idea where they have one that is fast. Be it OEM or a Snap-on Zeus, they are all slow. Maybe it’s improved with updates, but mine isn’t particularly slow. Can it do ABS brake bleed? Originally no, but as time passes with updates it can. Much of that is based on what manufacturers will allow third party scan tools to see. So, if you’re working on Lamborghinis, this is going to be limited, but otherwise you’ll probably be OK. Check with OTC for a coverage list.

Worst scanner in this price range
I didnt buy this scanner on amazon, but figured i would leave a review to help people out. 1st off i have been in the auto repair business for 21 years and i have used pretty much every light and heavy duty scanner ever made. The otc evolve is probably one of the worst scanners i have ever used. Sloooow boot up speeds, very slow between menus, horrible selection menus, slow data buffering especially on ford, horrible euro car system access, will not read duramax injector balance rates correctly, horrible battery life.. those are the key negatives. Really the only good thing can say about the tool is the screen is clear and bright. I have a matco maximus 2.0 pro that is older and it blows the evolve out of the water and was cheaper.. do not waste your money and purchase one. I bought mine on a tool truck and am fighting to get refunded because it is a useless scanner. It makes a good 3500 dollar code reader.

Updates are very nice and programming feature is nice
Best scanner ever owned just for everyone to know after 1 year their is a yearly fee of $750.** for updates Didn use that as a selling point other than that worth the money. I use on a daily basics

Way overpriced
This is basically a code reader for what I use it, BMW,Mini. The function test are basically nonexistent. If you do program or code you have to use a laptop, so why not get a system for a laptop (PA soft) etc. for almost nothing that does more than this tool. I really thought being otc and Bosch combined it would be very good, save your money you can get way more for way less than even the yearly subscription cost which is outrageous!

Great and versatile tool
I've owned my Evolve since 2017 and I have used other tools in the meantime and they aren't as fast, stable or versatile as the Evolve 3896. The autel has similar features but they aren't as stable as the OTC, Snap-on has a scope but they can't program keys and they're slower. I haven't had a car kick me out or refuse to connect, the boot-up time is about 30 seconds, the time to auto Id is 10-15 seconds, and between the menu's are about 1-5 seconds depending on your selection. The wiring diagrams take longer to load and the time it takes depends on your internet connection and how long it takes to download. The tool itself is lightweight, easy to hold and the screen works with wet hands, unlike autel. The controls are intuitive and you don't have to search for a function like you do with the snap-on. My only complaint is you can't send E-mail with the included browser but it can be used to search forums and technical websites. You can print test results with the OTC which is another huge plus
