When you've got acute gynophobia, even a pretty girl can be like a malady, and as the sparring partner for his family of female wrestlers, Sakamachi Kinjiro has the worst case EVER! Just one touch makes his nose bleed, so school's a bloody nightmare even before Kanade, the Principal's twisted daughter, deduces both Kinjiro's "feminine issue" AND that his name contains the sounds "Chi" and "Kin" back to back. But Chi-Kinjiro's female troubles don't totally redline until a wrong turn in the men's room exposes the secret Subaru, Kanade's manservant, has been hiding in the water closet. (Well, to be fair, SHE is still a servant.) And if Subaru's cross reactions concerning her cross-dressing aren't enough of a drag, Kinjiro's girl problems also include a haunted martial artist (with ghosts,) a cat-eared fetishist (meow!) AND his own sister, who's interest in "wrestling" a certain incorrectly packaged butler, may result in an unexpected ending! And that's JUST the set up! The maiden parts will fly, the punchlines will be below the belt and the butler will be cross-dressed to kill as Kinjiro goes stark-raving "Girl Crazy" in MAYO CHIKI!

Chicken meets Butler
This is a cross of Girls Bravo and Maria+Holic with a bit of Okami-san tossed in. Our hero, Kinjiro Sakamachi, is one who is so afraid of girls the a single touch gives him major nosebleeds (but given that he has been used as a training dummy by his World champion fighting mother and his sister who is training to beat her even you would do anything to get them to stop). Not to mention that when you put his name in traditional form the word Chicken is revealed, but that changes when he accidentally walks in on the butler(Subaru Konoe) to the daughter of the headmaster in the restroom and discovers that he is actually - well let us say that "he" has a few different options than normal butlers. But when they learn on his phobia, they offer a deal, help them keep the secret so her butler can become a butler despite being a girl, and they will help him get over his gynophobia. Throw in his crazy fight club sister, a cat eared, glasses wearing, busty blonde, a girl that has ghosts pop up all over the place, and Konoe's father who is NOT at all pleased with the relationship bewteen the two of them, can he man up to not only keep a secret but maybe find out that girls are not so bad.edit: i finished the series recently (delayed due to going to gen con indy) and I have to say it was a great series. the charatcers are funny in their interactions and the story does keep the pace well and keeps up with the comedy, but tugs at the heart as well as you get drawn into the struggle Konoe and Jiiro have with each other. Ecchi level is low to mid - Kampfer would be the closest to it. And with the ending, the idea of a second season is not out of the question. I definate must have for those who likes an Ecchi psudeo-harem romantic comedy.

Review for Sub-only version (it's great!)
I have read the English Dub version is being released. This is a Sub only title I bought. If you don't mind reading the subtitles, it's really a great story.Sometimes I just want to hear the Japanese voice actors anyway. It's a beautiful language, even though I understand very little of it.It's a fun series, with romance, comedy, and quirkiness to keep your interest throughout. If Subs are problematic for you, though, I'd recommend getting the Dub version. However, some things don't always translate well.I've studied other languages so I'm familiar with what a task it must be to Dub any show.If it's not an issue, though, then get this one as soon as you can!

Great show, mediocre translation
Let me first say I give no demerits to this show for the show itself. It's got its pros and its cons but in all it's a great and entertaining series. However, the translators in the past couple years have been very poor, sometimes to the point that I'd be tempted to call them incompetent. I recognize that translating things is difficult, but there are limits, and there should be someone to check the quality of the translation before giving a final approval. I could go through the show and list every problem I had, but for brevity I'll only list two large and early errors. Most errors in this and other works (by any company, not just Sentai) are brief instances that glare because they ruin a line. A great example is when Jiro is describing how he developed the tendency for his nose to bleed when a girl touches him. He said that he started to think his mother and sister would stop using him for wrestling practice if he started to bleed; this much was translated correctly. However, here someone completely missed the obvious tense difference. Jiro said that they tended to stop when he bled because the room would get dirty. Not wanting bloodstains makes sense. The translators changed the tense so that he said they stopped because the room IS dirty. This obviously isn't a big error, but the concept of a fighter stopping because they're in a dirty room doesn't make sense compared to stopping to avoid staining a clean room. One spot that I again admit was a little obscure but came together completely wrong was Jiro and Subaru's discussion of Jiro's first kiss. The use of possessive pronouns can be lacking in Japanese, resulting in conversations like this where Subaru's talking about the time she kissed him while Jiro's talking about the time Kanade kissed him; Jiro doesn't know Subaru's kissed him and Subaru doesn't know about Kanade kissing him. When Subaru asked if it was Kanade, she was asking if Kanade had told him, but he thought she was confirming that Kanade was his first kiss. Since pronouns weren't used, they didn't realize that they were talking about entirely different events. In the translation, both sides are translated like they're talking about the kiss with Kanade. There have been worse-translated series than this, I've even seen some with clear grammar and spelling errors that could have been caught by a basic spell-check program. Overall the translation could be worse, but it could be a lot better. I hope these people are a little more careful with any new projects they receive.
