Battery for Garmin Nuvi
I installed this battery in my Garmin Model 255w. It worked great. It has the same specks as the old battery. The battery is 7 volts,1250 mah,4.6 wh.My old battery was 4 years old. When I used my GPS on battery power only it would only last 45 minutes. Now with this new battery It will last 5 hours. Fixed my problem. It took maybe 15 minutes to install. Here is a few tips on installing it. Garmin says if you install a battery on your own it voids any kind of warranty on the GPS. They want you to buy a new one. You need a really small torx bit to open the GPS . It has 2 small torx screws. Some say it a T-5 Torx. I think I used a T-3 . I just bought a small torx bit set at Amazon to do the job. Its was only $6.49 the tool set. Its called Tool Repair Kit Precision Screw Driver Set Torx + Flat Head+ Safe Prying bar Tool for Motorola Verizon Sprint ATT Cingular Razor and More. I read you can also use this tool kit on cell phones. Another good reason to buy this kit. Once you get the 2 screws out that hold the GPS together you have to pry it open. The 2 torx screws are located behind your GPS label on the back. I used a pocket knife to pry the GPS apart. After you get it open you have to remove 4 screws that hold the circuit board in the GPS. Then you unplug the battery before trying to remove the battery. The battery is hard to remove. They use doubled sided tape to hold it in there. You have to pry it out. I made a mistake and used a pocket knife to get it loose. I accidentally punctured the battery and a spark came out. It did not do any harm but it scared me. Use something plastic to pry the battery out. Like a plastic putty knife. Make sure you unplug the battery before prying out. I could have damaged the GPS when I punctured that battery. Now just put it all back together. There is some good videos on you tube how too do this. You will also need to buy some double sided tape to hold the new battery down again.I'm' glad I fixed my GPS. Its like new again.

Beware changing battery - GPS unit may not reboot=dead
I would advise against this battery change. It killed my GPS unit in spite of being a difficult thing to accomplish. If you need to change the battery anyways, make sure the bad battery is fully charged, unit off. When unit is open, unplug and plug in the new battery quickly to prevent the unit from needing a reboot. For me, the software reboot and the screen recovery did not work I have unplugged and replugged the battery connector, did the manual and power reboots to no avail. The touchscreen beeps, at several points the guidance audio came on asking me to proceed to route, the screen sometimes said garmin, so I know the component works, just the software does not recover..The battery comes with no instructions although there are some on the web. The screwdriver needed to open the case, but not included, is apparently a very small torx. Someone said that they used a hex, but in my hex wrench collection this is smaller than the smallest (.050"). I would recommend buying the kit that includes the screwdriver and a plastic tool to pry apart the case as I now have to buy one.Well I finally got the correct Torx T5 screwdriver from Ace Hardware, they had a .050 hex that could remove the screws, mine could not. Opening the case was quite difficult (without a tool) I used my small knife to pry it open. Beware when you do this to watch for the power slide switch which will go flying when the case snaps open. If you do this, pry the case from the top of the case, near the on switch slider as the bottom has the cabling to the display and touchscreen. I then removed the circuit board and replaced the battery and then screwed it back together. Since this morning (4 or more hours) I have been trying to reboot the device and reset the screen. I see the word Garmin some times, I see the original screen sometimes. It doesn't respond to either reboots. I am now trying software updates from Garmin.FYI The 265W manual gives info on how to reboot the device and how to reboot the screen. None helped. So, all in all my 265WT unit is dead. I am the proud owner of a T5 Torx screwdriver and a loss of at least 5 hours trying to coax the unit to boot. I cannot vouch for the product although with no instructions it is a bit worthless. Thank god for Amazon, I will be returning the battery. At least that is not more to add to my problems.DavidI just spoke to Garmin. They will fix it for $89 including a new battery and reboot. I can however sell the Traffic power cable on ebay for $20 and buy a new one for the same price.Note that the 265 WT power cable with the lifetime maps can be used for some other Garmins. I am buying the Nuvi 1300 with lifetime maps. It will take my power cord and give it lifetime traffic as well, all for $99.

Not sure if original but works!
First off I want to point out that I'm not entirely sure that the battery is a Garmin original as the product description seems to say. For one thing, it looks rather different from the old battery I'm replacing and for another it does not have the Garmin logo anywhere. Regardless, the battery does appear to work well.I got this as a replacement battery for a Garmin Nuvi 205, which I had bought second hand from Amazon Warehouse Deals. The original battery was pretty much dead and the GPS unit would keep restarting even when plugged into a power source (car or computer). It now works fine with the new battery. To change the battery you will need a Torx T5 (star) and a small Phillips head screwdrivers. There is a video on Youtube that explains how to do this. One tip I will leave about changing the battery is that the plastic case is very hard to remove. However if you start by pressing in on the sides and then working your way to the top, this should work.

You Will Need A Torx T5 (Star) And A Small Phillips Screwdriver To Install This Battery
The battery works perfectly and is fairly easy to replace as long as you have the correct tools. If you do not have them already, order an inexpensive tool kit containing a Torx T5 (Star) head and a small Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the two Torx T5 head screws from under the serial number label on the back of the case. Carefully and gently pry the case apart with a putty knife. The front and back shells of the case will stay connected by a thin metal ribbon connector. Be gentle in handling, not placing too much strain on this connection. Remove the Phillips head screws that secure the circuit board to the case. Pry the old battery out and detach the tiny plug that attaches it to the circuit board. Plug in the new battery and secure it with a reversed loop of packing tape or double sided carpet tape. Replace the screws to hold the circuit board, assemble the case, and replace the case screws. It took me all of 15 minutes to complete the process and saved me the cost of replacing the entire GPS. Well worth the effort.
