Great lens, been using Tamron for years love it. This is the latest and greatest cant wait to go out to the nature with it.
Great lens, been using Tamron for years love it. This is the latest and greatest cant wait to go out to the nature with it. I started with the first Tamron wide range all around Lens 18-270, then they came out with a newer 16-300 and now this 18-400. I hate changing lenses on the camera and in reality this never works when you see a nice bird that you need to zoom on to by the time you change lens its gone. and if you keep the zoom lens all the time you cant take wide panoramic scenery shots.I used to have 3 lenses but no more just have one and never take it off. I love it. The picture quality is great and the image stabilizer is great. Its not very heavy and really useful.

I love landscape and animal/bird photography
After reading a lot of reviews of this lens, I decided to go ahead and purchase it to replace my old Tamron 18-270 lens. When I unboxed it, the first thing I noticed was how heavy the lens was! It took me a couple weeks to get use to this extra weight and to be able to hold it steady when taking pictures. Having used it now for about 4 weeks I'm totally impressed with the quality and sharpness of the pictures I've taken. I love landscape and animal/bird photography. This lens has been excellent. My only comment about the kit I purchased is that you really need to go purchase good quality lens filters (ie UV or Polarizer). The filters that came with this purchase are very cheap and I had a hard time getting the Tamron to focus past 300mm when using them. I highly recommend the Tamron 18-400!

Buyer Beware of Lens Set in Bundled Deal
The filter pack that was shipped with this lens is defective; a Vivitar Series 1 lens filter set. The first thing I did when I received the lens package was to mount the "Platinum 77mm MC-CPL" filter to the lens, and proceeded to take several images in this configuration. I couldn't figure out why most of the captured images were "soft" (out of focus). I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark IV, so the results were very puzzling to me. Subsequently, I took the camera and lens to my local camera repair shop for calibration. The result was a defective, soft lens filter. As soon as the filter was removed from the lens, the resulting images were sharp and clear. The Tamron 18-400mm is perfectly fine, as advertised, But, future customers beware of anything that's provided in a "free bundle package."

Great all purpose lens
Great all purpose lens for my Nikon D3400. I take a lot of wildlife shots and missed many swapping between my 18-55 and 55-300 Nikon lenses. I took comparison pictures at 18 and 400 using the Tamron and 18 and 300 using mt Nikon lenses. From my admittedly amateur perspective the picture quality is identical and the 400 provides a noticeable difference from the 300. Its not 33% closer but it is clearly closer, maybe 5 - 10 %. As mentioned in other reviews this lens is heavy, maybe 10 ounces more than the Nikon 55-300 and the zoom ring has a 'sticky' spot but neither of these issues bother me at all. This is now my go to lens for travel and everyday use. I'm looking forward to never missing another shot due to lens swapping.

Good lens
Good for the cost. I'm a student and can't afford the big lens yet so this is what I have until then. It does a pretty good job. I photograph cars mainly so it is helpful that it can be wide or narrow for different shots.

Great lens for the price.
Let me start with the obvious. This is not up to the quality of a Canon professional lens, but it costs less than half what a Canon professional lens costs. For the money, it does an excellent job throughout the full range, 18mm to 400mm. Since there are plenty of other reviews on this lens, I just want to highlight two things, one of which I had not seen before. Others have talked about how stiff this lens feels during zoom. Yes, that is true. It’s not a problem and it doesn’t interfere with functions (or autofocus, which works great on my Canon 90D), but since all of my other lenses are Canon, the difference in effort still comes as a bit of a surprise, especially when I am doing fast shooting like running wildlife. Again, not a problem, just something I have to remember. The other thing I had not seen mentioned before is that the zoom direction is the reverse of Canon’s. Again, that’s not a problem, but I find I have to consciously remind myself of this when I am shooting so that I don’t zoom out when I intended to zoom in. Knowing what I know now, would I buy this lens again? For the money, you bet. I expect this will be my primary workhorse for quite some time to come.

Focus is not too good.
This lens length is exactly what we were looking for; however, the focus on it is almost just as bad as a1998 point and shoot. For the cost, I definitely expected more. We used it for about a month while traveling through Europe. I noticed that it wasn't focusing because I would export them to my iPad, so we kept playing with the settings to see what we could do. Now that I am home and looking at the images on the camera, I still can't use many of them. It's a shame because although this is an "intermediate" lens this is the first lens we've spent this kind of money on. Almost seems wasted. Does anyone have tips or has experienced something similar? On the bright side, I like the goodies that came with the lens. However, the bag barely fits the lens and the lens cap keeper came off after just a week of using. I was so excited for the keeper because it's annoying having to carry it or trying to find it afterwards.

Absolutely fantastic lens!
I bought this lens for my Canon 77D DSLR. It's a terrific kit and it takes terrific photos. I mainly photograph action shots with horses and I can get sharp photos with this lens, even when extended out to the full 400mm! I use everything in this kit and it is all very nice and high quality. I definitely recommend as the Canon version of this lens is the same price, doesn't come with accessories, and is only 18-200mm.
