Learning About Monsoon with Ease- A great kids intro
Hip, Hip, Hooray. It's Monsoon Day! is literally a work of art. The illustrative paintings by Richard Johnsen are brilliant and bring the tale to life. The story draws from the monsoon experiences of its author while living in North America's Sonoran Desert. Viewing the monsoon as a natural and necessary part of the lifestyle in that part of the country, young readers will learn about the rituals and expectations of the season for that region.Nature comes alive in between the pages and the native people demonstrate to readers how they manage during these often tumultuous times of torrential downpour.Author Roni Capin Rivera-Ashford does a good job balancing the educational elements in the text and the entertaining story line. The use of dual languages to expose young readers to languages outside English is what makes this book so special. Additionally, the index, glossary and discussion points listed in the back help educators, parents and childcare providers how to approach this book with effective results. This is a solid reference and resource for all educators, caregivers and parents.

A glimpse into the excitment of Monsoon
Gives children from other regions a glimpse at what a monsoon is and why it is something anticipated with joy. For children who experiance monsoons it is a story they can identify with. Another beautifly illustrated book that brings to life Monsoons!....I plan to get one for my nieces in hopes they can read and understand the joy of comming rain that they don't get to experiance in the same way.

very exciting illustrations of stormy weather
Our favorite stormy weather book is called "The Storm Book" by Margaret Bloy Graham. I like this one because we live in ASrizona, and this is set here where we experience the summer monsoons. The look of the book is very exciting because the scenery is familiar. The book itself is rather dull, and does not convey the excitement and the frenzy of the storms. It's mostly just family members talking.Nice section at the back of glossary and suggestions. I like that the book is bilingual. I wish it were more interesting.
