Good speed, plenty of power.
Tool has good speed and enough power to do what I need. Not too loud, especially compared to others I have owned. Good deal for the money.

This is a good tool with a lot of uses in your home!
The media could not be loaded. This is an excellent rotary tool that comes in a kit with a lot of tools. I immediately gave it a very hard job to do and it worked perfectly. I used the supplied tool bit used for cutting metal and I set the speed at 6000 rpm. I then cut the door plate hole by removing metal from the bottom of the hard brass door locking plate in the door frame. I then removed the wood behind the plate and the door bolt now works perfectly. The door had slightly settled and we were unable to lock the door and now it works perfectly. The tool has plenty of power for this tough job and with the other tools and accessories the unit will handle a lot of projects like model making and engraving. It even comes with an extension that will help you do work in narrow spaces or to more easily do detailed engraving. You can also do polishing or sanding of metal with the supplied bits. There is even a small wrench to allow you to lock the bits into the spindle. The tool has a variable speed adjustment that lets you set the speed to match the job you are doing and the tool that you are using. There is a good instruction manual that lists all of the tools, their purpose and the speeds that you should use.I like this product and I rate it at 5 stars. It is a good tool for precision work in your home, office or work shop. Just engraving your name onto a set of tools or electronic devices can help you locate your items.

Not a Dremel replacement
The Wesco rotary tool kit is a good light duty tool, for the price. It does have limitations, and some pretty big ones. The manual only has safety warnings and a couple of pictograms illlustrating how to insert a point/ tip and how to attach the flex shaft. That is what I use 99% of the time. I use it to clean the (porcelain) release off of lampworked glass. For years I used a Dremel mini-mite, which is cordless, relatively inexpensive and fairly good for what I use it for. I burned through so many batteries it was ridiculous and they cost as much as the tool, sometimes more, plus Amazon will not ship LI batteries here, so I needed to buy a new tool every time the battery died. I must have a dozen cordless Dremels. The only way to use a corded rotary tool safely in water, which you need to do when using a diamond point on glass, is with a flax shaft.Attaching the flex shaft was a bit of work. Less once you've figured out how to do it. (What you do not see in the tiny manual is that you need to pull a wire from the center and insert it in the collet. It is pretty odd, and awkward, but it does work, sort of. What is really odd is that in some ways it works better than the dremel! The Drtemel's flex shaft will not work unless the cable is straight, and is lowe5r than the tool (which needs to be hung). The Wesco does not need to be hung *AND* is does not have to be perfectly straight, which makes it a lot easier to use. HOWEVER,it develops a serious wobble above 2 (I think it goes to 8 or 10... I never got a bove 3) on speed. Well.... so much for variable speeds. You have 1 and 2, and then the point starts 5to wobble and will fall out after approximately 10 minutes of use. Now, it may be that like other inexpensive imported rotary tools, you need to use the ones in the kit, or just use points which are 1/2" or less. I use a tapered 4 inch diamond point. The Dremel never complains. The Wesco can not handle it.Now, it does cost about 1/3 as much as a Dremel kit with a flex shaft, though the flex shaft alone only costs $24. Trouble is, if you can not use it the way you need/ want to, the savings will not do ytou any good. This kit only comes with a couple, maybe 3 diamond points. They are all very small, and low quality. Points are easy and inexpensive enough to get, but if the Wesco can not use other points, or is limited to very small points... well, you decide if it is suitable for you. I offer4ed it to my husband because if I can not use a long point, it is pretty worthless to me.I only wish that the flex shaft on the dremel did not need to be kept straight and below the tool.IF the Wesco could work with longer points my problem would be solved. It would also be nice if you could take the variable speed over 2 without getting a wobble so bad that the point comes out. There are definitely better rotary tools out there, even in this price range. If it were not for the flex shaft actually besting the Dremel in a couple of areas, I would have given it 2 stars. The wobble kind of goes to how well machined it is. I personally think it is worth the extra money to get a Dremel. I do have a dozen or so, after all.If, however, you can get by with 1/2" points, this will work very well for you.
