Vegetarian NOSH for Students: a Fun Student Cookbook

Delicious and not just for students
As I’ve said on another review, I own four of the ‘Nosh’ books but this one has to be my favourite and I cannot say enough nice things about it. While I’m not a vegetarian, in the last few years I’ve been experimenting much more with vegetarian cooking as a way of saving money (when did meat become so expensive??) and eating more healthily. I also find many vegetarian recipes to be more ‘interesting’ with a wider range of ingredients and flavours than non-vegetarian meals. For that reason, I’d say I prefer this book to ‘Nosh for Students’ but perhaps that’s just me.I have been absolutely delighted with this book and cook from it almost every week for my husband and me. I have also prepared a number of the recipes for friends and family, including the sweet potato tagine, the nutty crumble, the nut and courgette slice, several of the soups and a number of the risottos (a big shout out also for my favourite recipe in the book: khitcherie! A complete revelation! I've made it countless times, including for family, and it's so deliciously moreish that I have been known to polish off enough for about three people!) It has beautiful colour photos throughout and the instructions are clear and helpful.I have also found the sauces section to be very useful (the peanut sauce works very well in stir-fries or satay) along with the suggestions for salad dressings and sandwich fillings. As other reviews have said, this is definitely not just a book for students but for anyone looking for quick, easy to prepare dishes for everyday cooking that don’t cost the earth.

Brilliant for all busy veggies not just for students!
I bought this for my daughter to take to uni. We tried out a few recipes and when she left I had to buy my own copy! This is the best vegetarian cookbook for busy people that I have! Husband and son not veggie but this is perfect for me as I batch cook a lot of my food. Great tasty recipes, super helpful for both students and parents of students who are cooking in a budget because they’re finding their kids education!

Bought for daughter
The media could not be loaded. Decent quality book. Useful ‘how to cook…”sections at the start, also store cupboard and equipment lists. Photos for every recipe. Easy for my daughter to understand step by step instructions and no weighing required. Great idea! QR codes for more content but I haven’t tried them out. Each recipe has a cost per person and an ease of cooking star rating. Some recipes are a bit basic though, for instance ‘fruity rice’ - I thought would actually be a recipe for home made rice pudding plus fruit. However, the recipe requires you to buy a tin of rice pudding add half a packet of frozen fruit +1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and that’s it. Perhaps a little too simplistic! Not sure where the author shops though as not convinced the shopping list cost totals at the back are strictly accurate. Overall I’m pleased with the purchase and I’m sure my daughter will get lots of ideas from it when she goes to uni.

Brilliant, perfectly put together, simple but tasty and cheap meals, great book!
Brilliant! I bought this for my daughter as a gift as she left for uni, thinking she wouldn't use it for a few years. She's using it every week and is loving the variety, the easy instructions and the brilliant meal planners. She's finding the portions large so in some cases is getting more than one meal out of every meal from the book. She's also saving a fortune having found the local market to buy her ingredients.I honestly never expected her to get into cooking and do so much of it but this has inspired her. She's even made a few for us when we have visited and they've been absolutely delicious! We are about to buy ourselves a copy for home!Highly recommended in terms of healthy but very tasty food, brilliantly put together for students to keep life simple and cheap. Buy it now!

Just buy this one and throw out the rest
Oh, where do I start? I adore this book . When I became vegetarian I was totally overwhelmed with not knowing what I could eat other than lettuce and cabbage pretty much. This book has taught me so very much. The Gardeners Pie is to die for and I think I must have tried at least 3/4 of the recipes along with my husband ( a hardened meat eater) and we both love them.If you are worried and just don't know where to turn buy this book . Honestly, I now have 14 veggie cookbooks and every single time I come back to this one. It's like an old friend now. It's simple, good, honest food

Not just for students - for busy workers, those on a budget, or veggies looking for something different
Ordered the excellent standard Nosh for Students for my cousin's birthday present, and came across the veggie one whilst browsing, so added it to the order. I'm not a student, but I'm a busy working gal who lives on her own, and I'm always on the lookout for new veggie recipe ideas, and this book is fantastic. Thank you Joy and the May family for writing something so simple to follow, with easy, healthy recipes that offer new ideas and fresh takes on classics for us non-meat eaters, with gluten-free options too. As an added bonus, the size of the book, and the measure-everything-with-a-mug concept means it's really useful for travel to self-catering accommodation too. I really like the menu planners and shopping lists, which if followed means you only spend about £15 -20 a week on food - perfect for keeping costs down. I'm going to order a few more copies for veggie friends and family!

Good so far, yummy soup
Im not a student but a veggie who cant find things to cook. Normally I look at a cookery book & don't end up making any, they always seems to contain so many fussy ingredients that i`ll probably only use once! I've made the lentil & tomato soup ( I already had all they ingredients) I found my packet of lentils said they needed to cook longer than the book said so I kept to the packet, but it very easy & very tasty. I have made a few of the other recipes I managed to eat them but wouldn't make again. It was however what got me inspired to try to look hard in other books even if I only find 1 or 2 recipes in each book. Maybe I need to have a closer look to see if there are any others in this book worth trying.
