FINALLY My 50 Gallon Filter Works As It Should With The Upgrade To The 70 Gallon Impeller
I have used Aquaclear filters for quite some time now, and my oldest 50gallon filter had some serious problems happening. Some crusting had developed on the impeller as well as the place where it has to spin around. This prevented it from moving. No matter how much I scraped and cleaned, the impeller just didn't want to work smoothly. It was time for another.I purchased this impeller for the 70gallon because I never really liked the impeller for the 50 gallon filter. It always clogged the tube too easily and I didn't feel that they were quite powerful enough.I had an extra filter handy, so I changed out the motor (which is the same for all of the sizes up to 70) to make sure to have a smooth surface and put in the only impeller I had- a 30 gallon. This led to some cloudy problems, so I changed it out for the 70 when I got it and VOILA! It works like a dream. I plan to replace my other 50s with this impeller over time.THE BOTTOM LINEReplacing my impeller in my 50 gallon filter with this 70 gallon impeller has really made my filter work a LOT better. Finally I feel it has a good flow to it and is stronger like I think it should have been to begin with. My tank is doing a LOT better now. I have it double filtered so I plan to replace the other 50 with the same 70 gallon impeller.

Works perfectly in the Fluval C4 filter.
I grew tired of having to constantly tear down my C4 pump because the impeller supplied with it was horrible out of balance. I'd tear it down clean it out and apply a little petroleum jelly on the impeller shaft as many with this filter pump said to do. Most of the time it would quiet the filter down for a few days but before I knew it it was making all sorts of racket. I was done I was about to rip it all out for something entirely different. So I decided to try a new impeller. I was not impressed with the reviews for the C4 impellers noting that many people complained that the replacements were no better or in some cases worse. So I looked at the pump motor itself and noticed it was identical to my old Aqua Clear unit I used to have. So I decided, why not and gave this one a try. First thing I noticed was the tops of the impeller vanes on this are curved where as the Fluval unit is straight. The second thing was the impeller head fits much tighter on the magnetic base than the Fluval. So I installed it again using the same petroleum trick as always. Once the pump caught prime I was amazed at how much quieter it was. I have been running it for a full week now and it's just as silent as the first spin up. If you have the C4 and are sick of the vibration noise like I was then this is the impeller for you.

Plastic impeller was broken, So
All but two plastic pieces of the impeller were broken off. So I pulled the one off the one I had that was worn where it goes on the shaft, instead of going through the return process

Just like new
Great replacement. Exact same product. The magnetic ring some how came off my original. This replacement was perfect. Not sure of longevity, but it's good so far.

Fits Aquaaclear 50's
I put this in my Fluval/Aquaclear 50 filter and wow! The suction power of the filter is fantastic. No need to worry about over-working the motor. It's the same motor as an Aquaclear/Fluval 70.

It fixes the problem!
I had African cichlids that moved the gravel in the tank and kept spitting the gravel into the outside filter. I recently got rid of those and discovered that the magnet had been worn because of the gravel and the filter and the propeller was wobbling back-and-forth. As a result, buying this new piece and putting it in quiet the filter because it was a noisy racket and also increased the water flow. Very happy with this purchase!!

These have lasted a long time for my husband (when he's not losing them under his workbench!)
The first time I'd ordered an impeller on Amazon (back in 2015), it was because the little guy had slipped out of my husband's hand as he was cleaning his AquaClear 50 filter and rolled under his mammoth, heavy workbench that canNOT be moved in our cramped combo laundry/furnace room (which is cramped BECAUSE of said workbench!) He was shocked to find out the little aquarium store he'd frequented for ages no longer carried Hagan's AcquaClear filter parts - AquaClear has been his all-time favorite filter out of the endless array of clip-ons, external and internal filters he's tried over the past going on 50 years of his fish hobby, so I was happy to find them on Amazon - didn't even know what the thingamajiggy was called and had to look it up. In doing so on Hagan's site, I was happy to find it cost less to order one on Amazon than directly from Hagan, let alone what he'd been paying for parts at his little fish store! The thing with impellers is that they have to be cleaned frequently (my husband tries to make sure to do it @ 4 times a year) to keep them functioning properly - it's the only moving part of the filter, with its ability to rotate freely within the pump being of primary importance in maintaining the flow of water through the filter itself. Well, it happened AGAIN, this time with the impeller of his AquaClear 70 (and I think it may have been a bit longer than 3 months since the last cleaning, because it started to rattle - which drives me nuts, and is a sure sign that the impeller needs to be cleaned before it gets too gunked up and burns up the motor!) I jumped back on here and found the same thing price-wise... $16.83 on Amazon, $19.99 direct from Hagan. His experience is that these parts really do last a long time (if they're properly maintained and don't end up under a workbench!), especially if he occasionally applies a drop or two of silicon oil (safe for fish) now and then. But I sure hope he's a bit more careful - if the impeller of his 110 decides to join its buddies under that daggone workbench, I'm not going to be a happy camper. Even with the cost savings, it still seems like a lot of money for such a little thingamajiggy!
