Born Twice: Memoir of a Special Forces SOG Warrior

Definitely a Good Book for those interested in SOG -
Finished the book - the end is heart wrenching on more than one level: The author's injuries and mental anguishes, the trauma America was going through at the time because of the media's Left Turn and Cronkite's misinformation about Tet and the war from that point on, and that this was the time I was graduating High School and decided to join the Army because older classmates had been killed over there. I bought the Book hoping it would be more like Plaster's works, posting numerous missions in depth/detail to give a broad clear view of what SOG did and what effects those missions had on shaping the War Effort by hampering the VC and NVA. But the Book is more an expiation, a personal exorcism brought on by a Soldier going into a war hoping to do Good against Evil, but finding out that the System and the Controlling Powers seemed set on making those clean goals difficult if not impossible - even blurring recognition of who the Good and Evil really are. I remember the Green Beret/VC Spy case from back then, and from readings. That's really the Nexus and Crisis of this book - and what makes it good. I will now have to read it again without my preconceived hopes to see what the Author is really hunting for. Certainly the Theme is similar to others: That if SOG had really been allowed to do its Job, and MACV had really acted with full force on the good information SOG provided immediately, instead of often discounting or ignoring it, the enemy could have been destroyed from out of the land and the War really won. So why wasn't it? Why was the NVA's presence in Cambodia and Laos not blown clearly open to the world? It only aided them in their cause, their aggression, and their final bloody success. Why? Very good book!

Great service for a great book
Real heroes have gone before us and it’s amazing to read their story! Even better was to buy this book used! The notes in the margins were from someone who was there! Even better! I recommend this author and book seller

DRAMATIC INSIGHT
Amazing story with superb detail. Professional proofreading, however, would have provided greater assurance of credibility. As a veteran, I have the greatest respect for author and patriot Dale Hanson.

Amazing S.F. Warrior
This is the story of an incredible Special Forces Warrior that takes the reader from the childhood of a boy with strong Christian values through the early years of his life to the deadly jungles of Vietnam and Laos. The story is mesmerizing and difficult to put down. The challenges this heroic warrior encounters and overcomes during his time "over the fence" is riveting to say the least. Even when bullets ripped away parts of his hand, he managed to stay focused of the well being of his team and completion of the mission. Dale Hanson epitomizes the skill and dedication of the Special Farces Recon men that put their life on the line every time they went out on their Top Secret Missions knowing full well that the chances their survival were low at best and repeatedly kept going back into the back yard of the enemy . This is a must read for anyone interested in learning about the Secret War during the Vietnam years and the bravest and best men our country may have ever sent into combat. Dale Hanson is solidly among them. Thank you Dale for writing your story. The world needs to know.Roger F Lockshier author of We Saved Sog Souls
