Missing the collectible animation cel that appeared in the original 2005 DVD set release, but still worth owning!
From David Merrill Gill, Barbara's Autistic son: A straight reissue of the 2005 DVD set release, minus the collectible animation cel that I still have with the original release I bought back then. All entertaining even so. Perhaps for its 50th anniversary next year, Warner Home Video can release the whole series again to DVD/Blu-Ray, this time around including the original two-minute cliffhanger previews that were originally at the end of each episode when it had aired on the CBS Saturday morning schedule from Saturday, September 13, 1969 to Saturday, January 17, 1970. The sound mix would have to be remixed back to the way it originally were, and include the versions of the opening/closing themes that have been retained only on episode nine; Hair Raising Harness Race. Why not also include an extended retrospective, adding the footage from the retrospective included here in this set? Warner Bros. Animation/Warner Bros. Pictures should consider doing a revival series or animated/live-action movie which would bring the story to closure, where Penelope finally learns the truth about her guardian, Sylvester Sneekly, and seeks to get him successfully arrested. The original music cue package, and the opening/closing themes my age group remembers, all from Ted Nichols would have to be retained for the revival series or movie.

Penelope Pitstop is one tough, brave and beautiful gal!,
When I ordered "Wacky Races" in May, originally, I wasn't going to order either of it's spinoffs. However, after renting the DVDs of the complete series of both spinoffs, I decided to not order "Dastardly & Muttley & their flying machines" but I couldn't resist ordering "The Perils Of Penelope Pitstop". I think that "Perils" is a wonderful series, just as wonderful as "Wacky Races". I love the plot which has Penelope inheriting a vast amount of money and her legal guardian, Sylvester Sneekly, A.K.A. The Hooded Claw, tries to do away with her so he can have the fortune all to himself. However, the Anthill Mob, who are Penelope's loyal friends & protectors, always foil the Hooded Claw's schemes by coming to Penelope's rescue, although, sometimes Penelope rescues herself, then has to rescue the Anthill Mob, sometimes. I also like the fact that the episodes take place in different locations (the jungle, a carnival, the North Pole, a movie lot, etc.). I also love the collectible print and how the set is packaged in full-color. What I really love are the characters, especially Penelope Pitstop & the Anthill Mob, whose members I really like are Yak-Yak, with that laugh of his, and Zippy, because he's so fast and, sometimes, says things twice! Plus, I must admit, I even like the Hooded Claw, with the amazing voice of Paul Lynde, and the Bully Brothers, especially when their schemes fail. To sum it up in one word, this DVD set is wonderful. Just like "Wacky Races", I love this DVD set and, to anyone that's a fan of 60's/70's animation, Hanna-Barbera cartoons, or any cartoons, in general, I recommend that you buy this set because, believe me, it is TERRIFIC!

Great price
I would have given it 5 stars but there are short periods where the film goes into a strobe effect. It doesn't last long but it's not good. Apart from that, it's a great buy.

Help! It's The Hooded Claw.....classic animation
Having recently bought a multi region dvd player I can now enjoy region 1 US releases on my main TV instead of the computer. I believe that the BBC only showed this series once or twice so it's quite rare now and being taken from the classic Wacky Races show I enjoyed watching these again.

Classic Childhood Cartoon
The Perils Of Penelope Pitstop is a classic cartoon comedy from my childhood,a spinoff from another cartoon classic Whacky Races, the spinoff here deals with wealthy Southern heiress Penelope Pitstop played to perfection by the late Janet Waldo,in constant peril from The Hooded Claw, who is really Penelope’s Guardian Sylvester Sneakly played with an infectious evil chuckle by Paul Lynde familiar to UK audiences as Uncle Arthur from sixties comedy “Bewitched”.The other characters from Wacky Races appearing here are The Anthill Mob,seven short rescuers dressed as 20style gangsters who often need rescued by Penelope as they try to rescue her !Their Car Chugaboom has a life of its own and speaks a bit like Scooby Doo And is voiced by cartoon legend Mel Blanc. In the seventeen episodes the action moves from the Jungle to a department store, the Desert,London its all a very enjoyable very well written and excently performed cartooon.
