I wish the editing had been better
I was really enjoying the book - the characters were pretty well developed and like able and the plot seemed to be getting developed. Although a little too developed as the author kept dropping hints like some kind of hammer, not very subtle. Anyway - but the typos and the mis-matched areas of the book were really off putting. I can take a dropped word here and there but the constant unevenness ruined the second half of the book for me. There were names in the wrong places, you could never tell exactly what day it was supposed to be, and the timing of the days didnt match up. There was one point where they were supposed to be getting ready in the morning 'before first light' and then suddenly pizza arrived - I seriously wonder if anyone read this through before publishing. I think the editors did a major disservice to this author. I dont think I will be reading another book by her.

Too many important unanswered questions
On the surface, this is a warm & fuzzy story of 3 estranged sisters who are reunited by the shared inheritance of a Pacific Coast beach house.Below the surface, however, there is a LOT of calculated manipulation going on, and also some intriguing unanswered questions about sister Tyra's financial situation. Those two things made the story seem somewhat dark to me, otherwise, it's a fairly happy little read. Most of the drama is self-inflicted and neatly resolved by the last page.My recommendation is neutral. It's a good "lazy day" read, whether that's on the beach or on the couch on a rainy day.

Good beach read - spoiler alert
I enjoyed this book. It was a fast read and the characters were well developed but it was hard to get over all the typos. It needed some editing. Aside from that there were some unanswered questions. Lydia did quite a transformation which in part could be being away from her horrible husband but really a bit unbelievable. Where did Tyra get the money to buy the house in the first place? The story of all those volunteers just because they loved the original owners also seemed a bit contrived. But I did enjoy the book and the premise was different from the usual novel about beach life.

The connection of siblings still forms a bond after neglect, hurt, and anger.
I read this great book at the suggestion of a reading friend for a book challenge. Without telling too much, this is the story of bringing three sisters together after many years of no contact, with the claim of an inheritance from someone they don’t remember. It is about their struggles with overcoming past hurtful mistakes, forgiveness, moving forward, working together for their common good, the kindness of strangers, and the love of family. This was a very good read and I found a new (to me) author to follow! You will enjoy it too!

A forgettable read that left me feeling as if I had missed something!
I read the whole book and kept thinking "what happened?'' to this one and that one. Too many unanswered questions, no character development. Not unusual to have some family discord in any family, but all their problems seemed pretty manageable rather than shattering to the family group. Can't imagine they had been disconnected for years and years. And how many times did the reader need to be shown that small town living is "everybody knows everything about everybody"? Had a few good elements (like the character of the old house, and the beauty of beachfront living) but just lacking.A forgettable read that left me feeling as if I had missed something!

SPOILERS!!!!!!
I liked the first 3/4 of the book. Then last 1/3 came out of nowhere and made no sense. So many questions left unanswered Where did the one sister get the money to make such a huge purchase? How did the mother and oldest daughter get so close again? Why the little boy at the end? Why exactly did the entire town know who these girls were? Why was Charlie such a main character and if he WAS so close to the family (like a son) how come their was nothing left to him? Why was Charlie SO respected?? Too many loose ends.

Terrible Editing - Characters from Nowhere
The story was all over the place! The editing seems to be at fault. - Where did Tara get the money?!?! Why do we care about Charlie? Why on earth are the townsfolk "donating" their time?? Who the heck was Gordon?!?! - People popped up with little introduction to become part of the family. Story all over the place. So silly!

A Great Read!
Heidi Hostetter's "The Inheritance" is a very enjoyable novel with an interesting storyline and great characters. The plot could have so easily resulted in a cloying sweet story, but the fully dimensional characters brought other dynamics that render the story a full-bodied one. The tale of three long-estranged sisters coming together again is all too familiar, but Hostetter incorporates so much more into the story that that becomes only one facet of the novel. This book was well-worth the read and I give it my highest recommendation to anyone who loves reading for pure and simple pleasure!

Familiar story but very enjoyable.
I knew nothing about this author but saw her name mentioned in “if you like Elin Hildebrand ....” etc so thought I’d try one of Heidi Hostetter’s books. To be honest, this book follows the tried and tested formula of ‘dilated old house/hotel/restaurant in beautiful coastal/rural situation rescued by desperate person/people with little money but who manage to work on the house with the help of kindly locals before a major crisis is averted and they all live happily ever after. This is pretty much the story here. Three estranged sisters manage to come together and restore a lovely old house by the sea left to them by a mysterious benefactor. I’ve given the book 5 stars (in spite of finding the miraculous change in Lydia from truly horrible money-grabbing woman to kind and puppy-loving sister quite unbelievable) because somehow the novel kept me interested and involved. As a Brit who only knows the East Coast of the States, the coast of Oregon has long been on my bucket list but with Covid and my advancing age I may never make it which would be a huge sadness as it sounds outstandingly beautiful. But I also grew to like the characters, the reassuringly stable family of Maureen and Joe, and the surprise revealing of the Seller of the house, which I didn’t see coming at all. So have to say I really enjoyed this book, and will be reading more by Heidi Hostetter (great name!).

Loved it
I really enjoyed this book. The development of the different characters lives was felt through the book. I’d love to read more on the folks of Inlet beach. The Light in the Window is a great little follow up on Zachary. I’d like to know more about Tyra’s past and how she became as successful as she is.
