Informative, no-nonsense biography
I knew little of Cotton's long and distinguished career so this filled in a lot of gaps. It's very much a family memoir so there is little critical analysis. There's unfortunately also little personal correspondence from the man himself. But it's very readable and contains a few surprising nuggets - the very detailed orders of march for the army are fascinating in their complexity ( bit of a geek - sorry!). Recommended for the Peninsular War enthusiast.
