We had a couple ink pencils similar to these for years and they worked okay but were finally getting too short to use so we began the search for replacements. We eventually found these Veritas Indelible Pencils and we're very pleased with the way they mark our dahlia tubers. They were delivered with instructions on how to use them which advised sharpening to a blunt point. Who ever heard of instructions for a pencil? But I tried the blunt-point sharpening method as instructed and the pencils work better that way. Who would have thought! Anyway, a 12-pack of these from Amazon is a steal compared to the cost plus shipping from the big nursery supply places, and a dozen is a virtual lifetime supply if you're only using them to mark a few dahlia tubers every fall. If you buy these Veritas Indelible Pencils I think you'll have plenty to share with your gardening pals.

Packaged with great care and arrived multiple days early. Always nice to get packages from great individual Amazon sellers. Bought to label my dahlia tubers. It isn’t time to dig them up quite yet so I can’t speak to how well they will perform for that specific purpose but they look like they will be perfect and we’re the best priced indelible pencils I could find. When I was young I used to get canker sores in my mouth from time to time. Mother had this single indelible pencil that had been sharpened down to about 2 inches long and would use it to coat the affected area. It really worked and relief was instant. Nothing off the shelf in the drug store could compare.OK fast forward 50 years and I got a bunch of these and gave them to my offspring as gifts. My toxicologist daughter informed me that the active ingredient is carcinogenic. Well sorry about that, kids. But so far I'm doin' all right. I guess if you used one a lot it might a problem. Kind of like smoking a pack a day of cigarettes vs smoking one cig once in a while. Oh well.

These pencils worked great to mark our dahlia tubers!! Came with a nice note on how to sharpen them, too!

the lead was broken into a million pieces, can't use at all

I use these for marking my dahlia tubers. I lightly spray the tuber and then I write on it with this pencil. It’s like writing in ink. Works great!

They work well. We tried these as a replacement for the 705s. Although they don't mark as dark directly on plaster casts, they transfer practitioners markings clearly.
