Not crash tested
I purchased the x-large/31" for my 60 lb dog who ate my nylon restraint. This product does its job re: prevents nibbling but... I've owned dogs for 30+ years & only recently started to get more safety conscious. When looking for products I found the Pet Safety Council's page & there, to my shock and horror, watched product after product fail on test dummies. I then had a long conversation w/the founder of the council - a 1 woman show - & gleaned even more info. To my dismay, and once again, shock - there are no governmental/manufacturing standards for car pet safety as there are for child seats. The woman, bless her heart, has been fighting the battle that we all should be fighting - but to no avail -and it's been years(!) She has partnered with Suburu at this writing, but has struggled getting funding for the very expensive testing. Manufacturers lie w/claim that they are "safety testing" or "crash testing." To develop a product, including testing, it is too expensive for manufacturers. The founder of the Pet Safety Council received various negative responses when seeking interest in vehicle safety standards. Seems to be that no one is interested in funding because it isn't for "people." But, of course, pet safety in the vehicle IS people safety - a dog flying around in a crash is like a missile. Dogs can and do fly out of windows - causing potential harm to other motorists in addition to the vehicle's occupants. Of course we pet owners worry as well about our pets' safety, but if we are going to make the argument for improved vehicle pet safety it looks like we have to make the argument from the potential human risk. Center for Pet Safety dot org is the website for more info. I hope that we owners can band together and make changes in manufacturing for our fur babies and families.

Tested it out picking him up to come home for the weekend. It went really well and he did not mind it at all. He is doing rehab after having two TPLO surgeries from a not at fault car accident. I have noticed since our car accident I have been more focused on him and his safety when I come to stops and when taking off. So, this has really helped with my anxiety and putting me at ease so I can focus on the road.**Pitbull 87lbs stands at 27inches tall from top of head/ears to floor. Sits at 29inches tall from top of head/ears to floor. So, I brought the XXL for weight requirement and for the *extra length so he can to sit comfortable, turn around, not get tangled, and lay down. Perfect size and length. Worked out perfectly. My Rogue has tie-down metal clips in the cargo area which is what I connected the seatbelt to. The weight of each individual clip can hold up to 150lbs.

Unsafe to Use as Shipped; Easy to Mod
I urge anyone not to purchase this product unless they're able to replace the clip that's supposed to attach the restraint to the seat belt. That clip is absolutely flimsy, and my dog simply jumped into the front seat as though he'd never been clipped. It's only a super thin piece of 1/4" wide spring metal that's supposed to protect my dog. It's frightening that someone - anyone - might have thought this clip was a good choice. In an accident, he'd be right out there, panicked, in traffic. That said, the cable itself is so excellent, so well made, that it's worth buying this device, and replacing the seat belt clip. I used a steel locking carabiner, also called a quick link chain connector to grab the nylon part of the belt just behind the receiver, and through the loop of this restraint. Twist the nut closed, and your pooch will be as safe as can be. He can't bite through this one to get up front, and he can't step on the seat belt release, freeing himself from the standard seat belt pet restraints.

Amazing for a fearful pit. Recommend sizing for height and not weight.
I bought this a year ago and have come to review it after regular use. I got recommended this by a friend whose dad has a rottweiler that gets hooked to this regularly and I thought "Well if it's strong enough for a rottweiler, then it's strong enough for a pit half their size." I bought it because I knew that my pit was too strong for a standard seatbelt harness and she's pulled it out long before it became a safety issue. Also sometimes I have to bring her along with my other one for his vet appointment due to severe separation anxiety. She is extremely fearful of people outside of the outside and sometimes becomes aggressive thanks to past trauma. I keep her muzzled for safety.I went off of the weight measurement when really I should have went more off her height. Won't deduct stars because it's on me. For size reference, she sits at 24-25 inches tall and weighs 54 1/2 lbs. She is 1/4 bull terrier and 3/4 pitbull (got her DNA tested). She is very, very muscular for a pit compared to my other pit who is a happy potato. Like she's as jacked as an American Bully, but more curvy like a pit. Beautiful dog. Attached pics of her for reference so you can get an idea of her size.I had bought the 26 inch which I hook to the Max & Neo harness (has a place for you to grab them easily which is a huge plus) and then to the car seat on the driver's side for safety. I should have bought the 21 inch tether because she can almost reach the passenger side, but the tether definitely stops her. She hasn't attempted to chew it, but seeing as she can't chew through a nylabone, she won't be able to chew through this either.I really should bake my vet office some goods as thanks for tolerating her fearfulness. 5/5 would recommend this product.
