Could be even brighter
Well made. Sturdy aluminum housing. Fairly bright, but could be brighter. The batteries are a-typical. Might be hard to get. You have to hold it no more then about 5 or 6 inches away and you get a usable 6 or 7 inch diameter spot. I can attest that it does fluoresce on urine, and UV dyes.You could probably get a more professional model such as the Bayco UV Inspection Lamp, 13 Watt Twin Tube, 25 Ft Cord or Spectroline RestAssured P.I.L. (TM) Portable UV Inspection Lamp Model 3 , but I have not used either.By the way, when I bought this light it was $31.00!

Excellent product
This unit has a lower range of UV than many of the cheaper lights, resulting in much better results if you are using the light for ID docs or organic stains. Also, the product uses lithium batteries resulting in more reliable use times and storage times.

Not for me
I expected a much powerful product and I was disappointed. It is possible that mine was defective ... maybe. But mine doesn't do much even in complete darkness. Sorry.

Excellent for fluorescent color differentiation
In my daily work, I use UV illuminators for two different purposes and for one of them this is the BEST LED product I've used. It's also very well made and conveniently sized: 1) For differentiating colors of fluorescence (violet, blue, green, yellow, gold, orange, red) this is the best LED based light I've used in 15 years (since I first saw UV LEDs appear). I think this is due to the narrowness of the emission, and specifically the lower output in the visible blue range (compared to other LEDs). All colors of fluorescence appear more saturated because there is less reflected blue light from this LED.2) For determining simple presence of fluorescence, there are other more powerful and less expensive LED illuminators that I prefer (Esco Lite). For this purpose, I give the INOVA X5 3 stars. However, with all other illuminators fluorescent colors appear washed-out (much less saturated, more white) because the fluorescence appears with more reflected blue from the LED.
