Spring Assisted Band and Hinge - Large

First and foremost, this hinge is for Large BGE’s made on or after 2008. It is original BGE hardware, just upated. I’m not sure this will work with previous versions due to the way the handle attaches.It does come with the alignment plastic pieces that prevents your lid having an over/under bight when closed - letting heat and smoke escape from the side rather than the top. Don’t throw away the pieces! You’ll need them when it comes time to redo the gasket or if you ever have to move the egg.It’s honestly a better design, easier to open, and easier to align than the one that came with my BGE. The handle now features these metal plates that fit to the lip of the top dome making alignment of the bands even easier.When attaching to the egg I recommend aligning the top dome and then pulling the bands down into place. If you leave the screw that tightens the bands off until you do this it makes things a whole lot easier. Otherwise it’s a super tight fit. Trust me when you get to that step.

Bought this, thought I had bought the wrong one and was going to return it, but turns out it's the right size and fit for my 15 year old egg. Zero issues installing it, but yeah, you have to pay attention to the instructions when assembling it. Works great and zero issues after six weeks or so of use. THe company that shipped it is terrific-- contacted me with alternatives when I asked for the return and promptly shipped the return label as well-- I'd definitely use this vendor for anything egg or grill related and look forward to more of the same excellent customet service going forward. Very happy with the band as well.

I bought this for my 2011 Big Green Egg, when corrosion blisters broke through the paint on the original hinge assembly. Truth is, I have been unhappy with the original hinge which had warped over time and developed an "overbite" with the lid. The air gaps made temp control difficult, slowed the snuff out and prematurely burned up gaskets. Now - this assembly perfectly aligns the cap and base, has easily accessible adjustment points and greatly improved the handle space. Super simple to install by yourself and immeasurably better than the old style hinge

Replaced my 13 year old BGE Large spring hinge with the latest design and it is awesome! The new hinge sets the center of gravity of the lid back behind the bottom section vs. just straight up over the pit. The visual instructions were spot-on and initial assembly took less than one beer. For assembly onto the Egg you will definitely need a 2nd pair of hands to keep rings centered as you tighten the locking bolts. I would recommend and did leave top lid on and as is when taking off old hinge and appling the new. I did not use spacers, but have a new felt gasket on the lid. If you have old gasket (flatter and thin) then advisable. Having top and bottom perfectly centered is a MUST!

An enormous improvement over the original - I don't think the two halves of the egg have ever been so well aligned. Lost two stars because Setup/assembly instructions are SEVERELY lacking - the online video on the Egg site were for the old hinge. Once I found good instructions, setup was simple.

Fit our large BGE perfectly. After 3 moves, the original bands got a little bent, and this was exactly what we were looking for. Came with a better handle and spring hinges and the original hardware.

The lid of my Egg has been slightly crooked for years despite minor fixes I have tried. Installed this new band and hinge and it is better than new! Perfect fit and easy to install.

Got my BGE back in service. Glad to find OME for my grill.
