Western Digital 1TB WD Blue 3D NAND Internal PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s, 2.5"/7mm, Up to 560 MB/s - WDS100T2B0A

I bought this WD Blue 1TB SSD to replace the ancient slow running Samsung 1TB mechanical HD in my 2014 Dell Inspiron15R laptop, which literally took 10+ minutes to boot up and fully load the operating system. This new WD Blue 1TB SSD brought new life to my old machine. It boots up in <20 seconds, and is very snappy running programs. Read and write speeds were dramatically increased as well (e.g., it took 8 hours to create a system image of the old HD vs. 2 hours to image the new SSD). It was easy to physically install too (it was slightly thinner than my old HD, so I just put 2 tiny stick-on felt pads inside the HD bay for support, and it was good to go). >>The installation procedure that I used below worked flawlessly for me (I did not use the Acronis cloning software because my laptop only has one internal HD bay and Acronis advised not to clone an existing system drive to an externally connected USB drive-bay because the cloned drive may fail to boot): 1. Created a system image of the original Samsung HD using the standard Windows 10 process in control panel (saved the system image to an external USB3 HD) 2. Created a system start-up/repair boot DVD when prompted to do so after the system image creation process successfully completed (my laptop has a DVD burner in it, but you can make one with a USB jump drive too) 3. Shut down the laptop and removed the battery 4. Removed the bottom cover on the laptop and replaced the old HD with the new WD Blue 1TB SSD 5. Reinstalled the battery and turned the laptop back on with the external USB3 HD connected 6. After turning laptop back on it asked for a start-up boot disc since the new SSD was blank and un-initialized 7. Inserted DVD and rebooted laptop to load the system start-up/repair program 8. Selected 'restore drive from system image' on the menu and it automatically searched and found the previously created system image located on the external USB3 HD 9. Started the restoration process, which took about an hour to finish 10. After restoration process successfully completed, I removed the system boot DVD and restarted the laptop (as instructed by Windows) 11. System booted up quickly with zero problems and everything was just like the original drive in every way, only much faster! I feared all sorts of drama upon start-up with the new SSD, but I was elated to see everything worked perfectly (all existing program product keys and iTunes account mapped over transparently) As for long term reliability, I cannot say because it’s only been a few days since I installed it, but I’ve had good luck with WD products over the years (after successful SSD installation I went to WD's website and filled out the warranty registration online). The speed increase and low power consumption make this SSD an excellent upgrade from older slow HD’s. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I am writing this review after 3 years of purchase. I bought this WD Blue 1TB SSD back in June 2022, and after three years of daily use, I can confidently say it’s been a fantastic investment. My laptop is almost never shut down—it’s constantly running with multiple applications open, and this SSD has handled everything smoothly and reliably. Boot times are still fast, programs open instantly, and I haven’t experienced any slowdowns or failures. The drive runs cool and silent, and it’s clearly built to last. I haven’t even had to think about it since installation—which is the best kind of tech experience. If you’re looking for a dependable, high-performance SATA SSD, I highly recommend this one. It’s been rock-solid for me even under heavy and near-constant use.

A must-have SSD for an older computer. I finally got around to installing this WD SSD in my 2012 quad-core i7/16GB Mac Mini which is running Catalina and it works flawlessly. I had Catalina OS installed on a four-year-old Seagate 5400rpm hard-drive and that old drive was as slow as molasses. It wasn't so bad with Mojave but with Catalina, I kept getting beachballs on any operation that required disk reads and I did everything I could think of to speed it up but nothing worked. The Seagate showed no errors or anything, but it was just too slow at transferring data with Catalina. Using the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test on that old hard-drive, the needle barely moved (around 50MB/s) on reads and writes. Absolutely horrible. I couldn't wait to install this SSD into the Mac Mini and it only took about half an hour (I also put in a new fan for good measure). I took my time to make sure everything was done right. Now the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test shows about 450MB/s for writes and 510MB/s for reads and no more beachballs. This SSD runs very cool and is quite snappy with anything requiring reads and writes. It's a terrific replacement drive. I had cloned my Seagate drive with Carbon Copy Cloner and then cloned it back to the SSD after I formatted the SSD using Apple Disk Utility's AFPS option. Everything went smooth as silk. Copying took a few hours because my backup drive was also a 5400rpm USB drive with about 500GB to move. I shouldn't have waited as long as I did as I bought the SSD a few weeks ago, but I was too lazy to make the swap. I highly recommend this SSD to put new life in an older Mac Mini. Catalina runs great on it. Only 2% - 4% CPU use on idle. I just purchased a 2018 6-core i7 Mac Mini with 16GB and 1TB SSD, so I'm going to swap my 2012 Mac Mini out and use it for something else. It's still a great little computer after all these years and the SSD gave it new life. I don't know why Apple now sells any IMac with a spinning hard-drive. Those things are too slow.

This is the second SSD HD I've installed in recent months in our laptops. The other a Samsung 860 EVO. The reason for the HD swap is that the old HDD seemed to doing a lot of work that slowed the computers down, especially at startup. This one is a modestly priced HP that has a 7th Gen i5 and a basic 8gb ram. The result of the upgrade is that the computer runs at light speed for the basic tasks I use it for. Startup feels instantaneous as does the loading of any programs running on the machine. I'm not a gamer so I can't comment on that high level of function but for everything else it's a charm. Installation was fairly easy. WD has good online tools to clone the existing hard drive and also to manage the SSD. It's similar to the suite that Samsung offers. On this install, I had a brief problem when my computer wouldn't recognize the SSD attached through a USB 3 cable. The remedy was easily found with a Google search so I won't repeat it here. That added perhaps 5 minutes to the process. Conclusion - I'm happy with the product, support and most of all performance. There is a lot of info on line that explains the difference in performance and life span of various SSDs. I thought this one was in a sweet spot of quality and price. Admittedly that's a very non technical assessment.

I wanted to replace the old 1TB spindle drive in my Dell Inspiron laptop. Goal was to clone the drive. I attached the drive via USB (assume you have a special cable or enclosure) and I also installed the WD Dashboard (3.2.2.9) on the old drive. launching the Dashboard I could see the attached new SSD drive. I then tried to clone the drive. Go to "Tools" then to "Additional Software" then to Acronis. This is a free limited function cloning software that WD licensed. This is when things went a little sideways. I could download the software but it wouldn't launch. Wouldn't recognize the WD SSD drive. Wait, the Dashboard sees it. I did a lot of tries, even created a partition on the SSD drive and mounted it. Still no. I contacted (emailed) WD and Acronis tech support. Contemplated purchasing other clone software or free Linux options. Acronis support pointed me back to WD. WD did send me email with link to a download page. I went to specific link for this drive and bingo. This version of Acronis recognized the drive, not the one linked in the dashboard (they will probably fix this). Also had instructions you could download. Recommendations are to install the SSD in laptop and attach the OEM drive via USB to clone. I didn't do that. I used Acronis to create a bootable DVD. I had to change the BIOS on laptop to allow booting from DVD and bingo. Launched the Acronis app and cloned the drive. The clone was exact, all partitions and hidden partitions were recreated. All works fine, has been 3 months and not issues. Boot time and amazing when comparted to slow spindle drive. I also had updated the memory. I also went to WD site and registered the drive. Had to provided a screen shot of the Amazon order. Was accepted. Very happy.

I'd have given it 5 starts if I were basing my evaluation strictly on the performance of the product, but there are other things to factor in and they don't allow people to give 9/10ths of a star, which is what the star ranking for the product really is (to me). First let me begin with the one and only negative thing about the WD Blue 3D NAND 1TB PC SSD - SATA III; Western Digital's site only provides Acronis True image for cloning your existing drive, and it is a trimmed down version that has no error messages or logs, and doesn't really scan your original HDD to report any corrupted files. So, let me save you some time and trouble on that part - don't go to the wd site and download Acronis. There is free software out there to do a better job, I used Macrium Reflect, and now I've decided to purchase it because it does a much better job at backups than MS Win backups do and it is safe to use. I'm always suspicious of software on foreign sites, but Macrium came recommended by CNET and the 30 trail allows you to clone. I tried for 2 days using Acronis to isolate the cause of my cloning failures, following all the known issues on various logs including the WD site. In one hour, Macrium Reflect informed me that I had some corrupted files that needed to be fixed and gave me the command line prompt to fix them. Acronis pretended to be cloning, but never completed a single task and then just terminated with no messages, or reasons why. It didn't even pick the task up when I tried to isolate causes and run the clone again, but Macrium did. Acronis made me go through the whole setup, again and again and again. Now for the positive stuff. This ssd drive is like having 1TB of RAM. Windows doesn't just load anymore, it blasts on the screen with nerve shattering speed. Applications load like they've never been closed. I do a lot of work in 3D and I can easily load a 1 million polygon file in 12 seconds. While I'm working on 3D models a no longer have to bear the sound of my HDD thrashing around violently. My 8 year old computer performs like a one week old super computer now. I bought an extra device just for my virtual memory and backups. It is just amazing and well worth the frustration of cloning,,, just don't make the same mistake I made, don't use Acronis, use Macrium Reflect.

I have had 4 1 TB Western Digital Caviar Black drives for many, many years now with no problems at all but with the price of SSD's coming down as they have I have started replacing them one by one with SSD's. I now have 2 SSD's internal to my computer with one of the HDD'S as a backup in a toaster. I keep one of the HDD's in the safe deposit box and rotate it every paycheck. (I am not running a business but I have lots of family photos going back 1 or 2 generations to before WW II on there along with my complete record and CD collection plus personal finance etc. It's nice to know that if my house burns down I can pretty quickly restore these things.) It used to take over 4 hours to do a virus scan on three 1 TB HDD's. Now, with 2 SSD's and 1 HDD in the toaster it takes a little over an hour. Without the backup drive in place it takes less than 15 minutes to scan the 2 primary, SSD's. I also love how quiet they are. With my new fan and these drives my computer is extremely quiet now. I hear a high pitched squeal at times but my wife can't even hear that. I haven't narrowed down the source yet and once I get this thing back on the floor where it belongs it will probably not be noticeable. I'm very happy with these drives. I will buy two more of these SSD's soon to replace the drives I'm using for backups which will make backups lightning fast and silent and complete system scans should take less than 25 minutes. This will also make the chore of swapping drives in and out of the safe deposit box that much easier. I have also purchased one of the 500 GB drives that I have ready to go in my wife's laptop. Should be nice.

The one I got for cheap is still going strong now, thank goodness. I guess I got a lucky controller. One of the big issues these days is whether or not the controller you get is high quality enough to outlast the cells, whereas just five years ago the concern was whether or not the cells would make it long enough. Therefore, the new issue is that controller health is not a thing that can be measured, so you can have a 97% healthy 3 year old SSD simply fail to turn on one day and never come online again, since it is only measuring the health of its' cells. The best way to use one of these is, therefore, leave some space on it (about 50 - 100 GB) unused and try not to run anything that is constantly streaming I/O so as not to tax a weak controller (and to check if you have one of those controllers). I have done the first and not the second, and haven't had any issues. WD isn't considered the most reliable brand, so it's surprising that it has lasted this long. Still, in the spirit of my good experience, I give them all five stars. Worth my money, and as long as it's the same controller, I'd buy it again.

Ho atteso l'uscita di questa nuova versione degli SSD di Western Digital, versione 3D NAND, un pelino più veloce della generazione precedente (e naturalmente anche un pelino più costosa) per dare nuova vita al mio Mac mini late 2014. Computer che era diventato mostruosamente lento e non riuscivo a spiegarmi il motivo, un processore i5 da 2,6 GHz supportato da 8GB di Ram non può metterci quasi 2 minuti ad avviarsi e 40 minuti per fare un editing di un video di una decina di minuti, in fin dei conti lo utilizzo prevalentemente per questo. Quindi soluzione: sostituire il Fusion Drive da 1TB con questo WD SSD 3D NAND. Risultato: guardate il video per credere... una manciata di secondi per l'avvio. Tutte le operazioni di utilizzo quotidiano (e non) si sono velocizzate, il PC e' tornato come nuovo. E' non e' tutto merito della "formattazione" e "re-installazione" del sistema operativo, in quanto ho ripristinato il back-up effettuato con Time Machine. La spesa per passare da un classico HDD meccanico (od ibrido, nel caso del Fusion Drive) e' quasi pari al doppio ma, credetemi, ne vale la pena e benedirete tutti i soldi spesi. Capacita' che arrivano fino a 2TB e velocità di trasferimento di 560MB/s in lettura e di 530MB/s in scrittura, mettiamoci poi i 5 anni di garanzia e la completa silenziosita', vista l'assenza di parti meccaniche in movimento, fanno di questo SSD di Western Digital un vero e proprio "Must Buy". Ultra-stra-consigliato!

Compré esta unidad para una Laptop Dell Latitude E6540, al instalarlo el equipo la reconoció inmediatamente. La instalación y clonación llevó una hora: fue necesario instalar la unidad como disco primario e instalar un sistema operativo provisional (15 minutos), no es posible clonar el SSD en adaptador SATA-USB, el fabricante recomienda instalarlo como secundario en la bahía de CD-ROM (no cuento con el adaptador); el resto del tiempo fue necesario para clonar el disco original (500GB con 270GB de información) desde un adaptador SATA-USB al SSD instalado directamente en el equipo. Una vez terminado el proceso y arrancar con el SSD pude notar lo siguiente: La diferencia en la velocidad de arranque (aprox.10X) comparado con el disco mecánico original. El equipo es más silencioso (desapareció el ruido producido por el disco anterior). La batería del equipo dura por más tiempo. Western Digital proporciona dos aplicaciones gratuitas que se descargan desde su página de soporte: 1. Acronis True Image WD Edition como herramienta para: particionar, respaldar, clonar, borrar, recuperar información, etc. 2. Western Digital SSD Dashboard que permite: verificar el estado, medir el desempeño, actualizar firmware de la unidad, etc.

I was on the market looking to replace my laptop's 5 years HDD to an SSD, I narrowed my options down to the WD Blue or the Samsung SSD EVO. In the end i went for this due to it being cheaper and reviews saying that this gives Samsung SSD a run for its money. Design and quality wise it was much smaller, lighter and plasticky than i expected. Guess I’m more used to having HDD, however this is completely worth the investment. It is easy to install and performance wise it's amazing. I feel like i can actually use my laptop now, previously with the HDD drive i needed to plug the power in to my laptop to actually use it with the SSD i don't need to plug it in to the power source and it works like a dream. I've been using this for 2 weeks now and have not faced any issues yet. I carried out for some basic tests to see the changes in performance. All the "Previous test" were with the HDD and power plugged in and all the "current test" were done with the SSD without the power plugged in. Please bare in mind the performance you'll get will depend on your own laptop/pc specs. Performance test - Previous boot time - around 21 seconds - Current boot time around 8-10 seconds - Previous opening Microsoft word - around 10 seconds - Current opening Microsoft word - around 1-3 seconds - Previous loading Valorant to home screen - around 1 min 30 seconds + - Current loading Valorant to home screen - around 42 seconds SSD's will give you much better performance than a HDD. It's a perfect minor upgrade to your laptop or pc to add extra life to your machine. I would 100% Recommend this product. One thing to keep in mind i use Macrium to clone my HDD to SSD. Initially i did come across some errors on the first couple of runs. You just got to ensure that there's no dust and is plugged in correctly and it should work fine.

Very happy with the performance. I purchased this for my xbox One and the difference could be seen instantly when recovering OS on this new drive for the XBox One. It was so fast that I didn't even get a chance to read all the content on screen. Finished the entire process in seconds. Game loding times have almost disappeared...my old Xbox one now again feels like a next gen console with such speed.
