Elegant Little Office Essential
I purchased this USED for around $10. It arrived quickly but with the back section broke off. However, the break was clean and was easily reattached with wood glue. To me, it was worth the discount as the rest of the unit looks brand new... Therefore, I elected to keep it and am NOT reflecting this in my review. This desktop organizer is very classy. It appears high quality and is a great accessory for creating an elegant office space. The main compartment accommodates various office supplies items including standard sized scissors. On the right side, the smaller compartment fits about 4 pens/pencils or permanent makers. The tray can hold Post-It Notes and acts as a useful "catch-all" to house smaller office necessities such as stray paper clips. For office supplies, I'm a big fan of Victor and own various items from the Pure White Wood Collection. I think that the Rolodex Wood Tones Collection coordinates beautifully with Victor's. While it costs less, and this is reflected in the quality, the Rolodex line is still of high enough craftsmanship to look good next to Victor. I like the contrast between the black and white and pairing the accessories with the black glass whiteboard by Quartet for a bold effect. As part of my home office make-over, I recently purchased several other items from the Rolodex Wood Tones Collection in Black, including the wooden paper trays (legal and letter sized) and desktop contact organizer (+ the telephone stand to use for work). I've found this line to be highly functional and elegant. With its simple lines, it has an uncluttered, streamlined look. I imagine that it would work well across many design schemes ranging from modern to traditional. The wooden construction is fairly durable and moderately thick (again, it's not as heavy or thick as Victor but the price is more reasonable). The black finish is a nice matte, so it's not shiny and seems to be resistant to scratches.Oberall, I think this is a useful office essential and will last a long time. I recommend it as well as other accessories from the Rolodex Wood Tones Collection.

Useful product
This is another in a long line of difficult to find desk organization accessories that are not too expensive for what they are. Most phone books do, indeed, fit under it. Do people still use phone books? For me it is ideal as a charging station/ caddy. My speaker fits discreetly under it with plenty of room for a large usb hub. A few twist-ties/ tie wraps; voila - organized. My cell phone and other items sit casually on top with no fuss. The pen holder and note pad slot do exactly that. They could, of course, hold other items. It comes well packaged and assembled. Except the most brutal of delivery guys, this should arrive undamaged. Though it feels as if it is made of pine, there is sufficient wood grain for a reasonable color match.

Using as a charging station to stand devices vertically when charging.
Using this as a charging station so I can stand my 2 ipads and 2 phones on the counter without taking up a lot of space, or causing a tangle of cords.Being able to stand your devices vertically instead of having them all lie on your counter/desk keep things very tidy. I decided to go one step further so I could keep the cords in their respective sections by drilling holes in the bottom of each section and running the cables up through those holes. I had to tape them to the underside to keep them from slipping back in, but once taped in place, they stay put and can just be tucked out of sight into each section when not being used. I also had to adhere thicker felt pads to the underside of the stand to give clearance for the taped cords and allow the stand to sit stable and not wobble b/c of the cords.I absolutely love this and have purchased a second one for my office too.Dimensions are:The space between the partitions are about 1/2" so very easily accommodates thickness of almost any tablet or phone with case on.The inside heights of the different partitions are approx: front 2.25", 2.75", 4" and the back piece is approx 5" tall. It's approx 7" wide.

Not just for envelopes anymore
I bought this with the idea of using it as a stand for my (admittedly very) slim laptop on my nightstand while it's charging. This required my fastening the sorter to the nightstand for stability, so it wouldn't tip over, which I did by attaching a thin sheet of wood, like plywood or paneling, to the back of the sorter and to the back of my nightstand. A small piece was all that was needed, and 5 small screws. It's a sturdy arrangement. And the sorter is sturdy. It is fine little unit. When researching this use, trying to figure out if it would work, I asked questions. Some of the commenters seemed to think the sorter was not well put-together. That is not my assessment. For the record, each slot is a bit more than three-quarters of an inch wide, 13/16 for the more precise, or about 2 cm. My laptop barely squeezes in, which is nice, a tight fit, but not too tight, which would loosen the unit over time. A tablet would fit too, perfectly, I'd think, or smartphone. I use the other slots for a clipboard (crossword puzzles) and pencils.

Great device organizer too!
I actually purchased this sorter to organize our family's devices. We have too many charging every night on too small of a surface -- the top shelf of a document sorter which holds our laptops charging in the lower shelves (we don't let the kids charge their Kindle Fires or smartphones in their rooms at night). I looked through similar items made for sorting devices, but a common complaint was that smartphones in large cases did not fit and my kids need that protection on their phones. This letter sorter works perfectly and looks nice in our makeshift charging station. I just need to line it with non-slip shelf lining so if I stand devices up vertically to charge, they won't slip out. I'm glad my husband suggested I look into letter organizers, this turned out to be the perfect solution for the spot I need it in. I can fit about 6 devices on this, and although we have more than that, it leaves enough room for other devices to charge around it if need be.
