Product description BOX 10U .com In the six years since this female quartet astonished the music world with its clear- voiced, impeccably sung renditions of medieval chant and polyphonic music, chant rose from the dark and dusty corners of classical music to enjoy a phenomenal run at center stage. New and reissued chant recordings achieved sales figures normally reserved for popular music. This is the recording that started it all (that Spanish monks disc came later), winning awards and earning near- permanent resident status on the national charts. Spiritually moving and vocally revelatory, this program re-creates a kind of mass sung in English churches during the 13th and 14th centuries. With their warm tone and perfect intonation, these four singers achieve an expressiveness that is rare among chant interpreters, most effective in the seductive, highly ornamented "Kyrie." The sound is exemplary--although a studio recording, it perfectly conveys the atmosphere of an English cathedral. --David Vernier

Acapella symphony
Mostly Polyphony, not so much Chant. Acapella at its best, what an amazing musical instrument. Others have said that their are no outstanding songs, but I think the majority are amazing. Very calming to feral cats.

inspiring music - not sure about the some aspects of the recording
as always with anonymous4 the music is beautiful and their vocals are exemplary.I do have one small quibble with the recording. On many tracks the singer inhalations are clearly audible (at least through headphones) and I find this most distracting. I appreciate that it is not possible to avoid entirely the recording picking this up (if reduced to a slight whisper it can even be quite nice) but on this recording I find it to be just a little too noticeable. It is especially evident on track 1, 5 and 21. Sounds like it is from one singer which could have been microphone placement?sorry about that everyone - perhaps I am being a little too pedantic !

An English Ladymass
This is one of my favorite albums. I had it on a cassette years ago, and I am delighted to have it on CD. The Anonymous 4 are one of the best groups I know for medieval chant. If you loved the Monks of Santo Domingo, you will be very satisfied with this album.

Une musique qui élève
Anonymous 4, ensemble de femmes consacré à la musique médiévale est une référence dans l'interprétation de cette musique : j'aime l'homogénéité des voix, leur douceur, la grâce, la fluidité de l'interprétation.

Angelic serenity.
This CD is an academic and musical treat. Trawling through the available material the Anonymous 4 have put together a selection of pieces whose devotional beauty is enhanced by the brilliance of their celestial tones. A masterful performance which puts this negmected repertoire firmly back on the musical map. Exquisite.

Heavenly Sounds
Wonderful CD that transports you immediately into medieval cloisters and vaulted ceiling with its unearthly sound. Just exquisite and from the brilliant group that brought us On Yoolis Night. An acquired taste but if you have it this is the most fabulous treat.
