Easy to use Smart Plug
I recently set up the Tapo Smart Plug with Energy Monitoring in my home, and so far, it’s been a great addition to my smart home setup. The plug’s sleek, compact design means it fits well into any outlet without blocking adjacent sockets, and its sturdy build feels like it will last a long time.Setup & Compatibility:The setup was straightforward using the free Tapo app. It connects easily via Bluetooth before switching to Wi-Fi, and I was up and running in just a few minutes. Just a heads-up—it operates on a 2.4GHz network, so if your Wi-Fi is dual-band, make sure your plug is connected to the right frequency. I also appreciated that no hub is needed, which simplifies things a lot. The plug works seamlessly with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing me to control devices using voice commands.Functionality & Features:One standout feature is the energy monitoring function. The app displays real-time power consumption, which not only helps track usage but can also confirm whether a remote device is working correctly. This is especially handy for high-power appliances like heaters. I’ve also set up schedules and timers, so devices automatically turn on and off as needed, which adds a nice level of convenience and can potentially save energy.Performance & Reliability:The Tapo Smart Plug has been rock solid since installation. Whether I’m turning off lights remotely or using it to power up essential equipment at work, it’s been reliable and responsive. The option to share control with family members is a great bonus, making it easy to manage devices even when I’m not home. I did have to update the firmware during setup, and it’s a good idea to disable automatic updates if you want to control when these changes happen.Overall, the Tapo Smart Plug with Energy Monitoring offers a strong combination of smart features, ease of use, and reliable performance at a competitive price. It’s a solid choice if you’re looking to expand your smart home with a device that not only provides remote control and voice integration but also helps you keep an eye on your energy consumption. Highly recommended for anyone seeking convenience and efficiency in home automation.

Easy to set up, works with Siri
I bought these as they seemed great value compared to much of the competition.Set up is a breeze, each one takes a few minutes to connect via Bluetooth, then attach to the WiFi, and finally update the firmware. Be sure to disable automatic firmware updates afterwards or ensure the schedule suits your setup. Finally I created some Apple Shortcuts for use with Siri, these are fully compatible and now I can switch things on and off using voice commands or tapping a shortcut on the phone. They have been rock solid reliable since installation.Bear in mind that like most IoT devices, these need a 2.4GHz network to function. If you're not sure what that means, chances are your network will be fine and you'll have no need to worry!

Great but fail with certain loads
I have a lot of these dotted around my home and they're great for switching things on and off through the app and with Google Home. They easily connect to the network and stay connected, and everything is just as you'd want from a plug. These are really low cost which is great, but they're possibly too low cost; I use one of these plugs to connect my PC and connected peripherals. I do this because even when the PC is off, there's a constant 60W draw from everything else. Being able to turn this all off in one go is a great energy and back saver! But, the plug I use for this regularly fails within 12 months. It must be the type of load a PC pulls through it, for some reason. A constant supply of around 280W, only 1/10th its rating, for half the day, but the relay inside always eventually fails by becoming stuck on.Every single Tapo plug I've had that's ever connected my PC in this way has been RMA'd, and that number is almost to double digits. I just wish they'd spend a few pence more on relays with more robust contacts. The RMA cost (return at your own expense for a new replacement) is half the cost of the plug when it's in a sale. Consider these plugs to be consumables.
