ParaNorman [Blu-ray]

I absolutely love this movie!! It is a must see, funny and emotional...I have watched it a whole bunch of times ..

One of my favorite movies to watch around Halloween. I know it was nominated for an Oscar but I feel like it doesn't get the love it deserves. All time great animation and fantastic story. Love it!

Great quality. If your kid enjoys Tim Burton movies this is a good choice. I got this as a gift for my younger brother who likes to collect physical media. It came on time and in good condition.

Great animated film! So much fun and so well executed. Need more horror animated movies for my kids

Wildly creative and technically terrific, there is much to admire in this animated play on traditional zombie films. But unlike “Coraline” – made by some of the same people – or the other Tim Burton/Henry Selick macabre animated works, there’s a certain lack of soul and emotion here that keeps it from climbing to the heights of those films. There’s also an odd unevenness of tone. While it has a few really inspired visual and verbal gags, it switches a bit awkwardly back and forth between being almost over-earnest, and a kind of hip, ironic distanced humor. And much of the plot feels familiar and/or predictable. Part of the struggle for me as an adult is that this is really made for ‘tweens. Too scary for little kids, it also limits the film a bit on the older side. It can’t work as easily for adults as some ‘kids films’ (ala Pixar, etc), where 8 years olds can enjoy it while 30 or 40 year olds can get it on a whole different level. I bet 11 year olds would flat out love this, but unlike the films mentioned earlier, I felt a bit left out of the fun. Still, it has it’s moments, both of humor and heart, and I’m glad I saw it. I just don’t know that I’d ever go back for seconds.

I saw this film in the theater on the premier night in 3-D. The 3D was amazing. Not gimmicky, not just thrown in as an excuse to charge more for admission. AMAZING. I wanted to wait until I actually owned the product which is the home video release before I review. Notice verified purchase. The menu is using Universal Studies generic menu which, I am not crazy about as I like a custom menu. That aside, the BD transfer quality is top notch. You could see all the details Laika studios pays attention too like the pattern in the concrete, and the clothing the characters wore. The video quality is comparable to the theater. I want to get a 3D tv so I can watch movies like this in 3D at home. Story A kid from a small town with a dark history is a medium, he see's dead people. He is also weird and misunderstood by everyone but his friend Neil. The story has great messages about bullying and tolerance. I don't want to spoil it, but I saw it with 4 year and 6 year old. The 6 year got the message, the 4 year old not so much. Mildly scary in some scene, but nothing an intelligent child cannont handle. Visuals Laika!, The studio that brought use Coraline and Corpse Bride. This is the best stop motion animation I have ever seen. They were hired by Tim Burton and formed their own studio. I believe the first film to utilize a 3D printer for the film. I read in the Wired article Norman alone has something like 9000 separate faces, with over 300 hand sculpted hairs. Ridiculous attention to detail. They also used an advance process for the 3D shooting multiple frames with a high end Nikkon SLR. At the theater I was blown away by the 3D. I also love the story. I had picked this up cheap on dvd because we like to watch animated movies. What I didn't expect was to be completely charmed by this movie. It's terrific. The animation is top-notch. As is the story. We had to upgrade to blu-ray because it's a definite keeper.

Einfach unglaublich, wie viel Arbeit das Team der beiden Regisseure Chris Butler + Sam Fell in das Produktionsdesign investiert haben! Sämtliche Puppen-Animationen sowie das Set-Design sind genial! Zu Recht erhielt "ParaNorman" eine Oscarnominierung für den besten Animationsfilm 2012. Diese Zombieparodie mit ihrer düsteren Atmosphäre, den schrillen Charakteren, skurrilen Einfällen, all den Untoten, Hexen, Geistern und Soundeffekten ist jedoch nichts für (Klein-)Kinder. Die FSK:12-Freigabe ist vollkommen angemessen. Genre-Fans werden bei "ParaNorman" sicherlich auf Ihre Kosten kommen...von den klassichen Universal-Monster-Streifen der 30er/40er Jahre...über die bekannten Romero-Filme...bis hin zu den aktuellen Produktionen á la "Paranormal Activity" etc. wird hier alles in einen Topf geworfen und ordentlich umgerührt. Natürlich kommt auch die Situationskomik nicht zu kurz. Die Blu-ray von Universal ist technisch auf höchstem Niveau. Nur beim Bonusmaterial (ca. 65 Minuten) hätte man noch eine Schippe drauflegen können.

I admit, I only looked into "Paranorman" as I absolutely loved Coraline (Blu-ray 3D) [2009] [Region Free ] with its the crafty and wonderful stop-motion animation (and which I thoroughly recommend!). I was not disappointed, the film is very well done, the stop-motion animation is indeed a work of art, the scrip is clever and thoughtful and, this being a "scary" film, there are some truly, truly scary sequences in this wonderful production. I watched this film with a 9-year old on a Halloween night and this proved to be an excellent choice - the kid was scared! Truly scared, but also entertained, we both laughed (he laughed much more, I have to admit), but the film proved to be enjoyable and thought-provoking, with an array of weird and wonderful characters and a few twists in a story. Seriously, not often I come across films for children that are so enjoyed by children but also are entertaining for adults. The message is also a good one, most of all "Paranorman" teaches children (and young adults) about open-mindedness and acceptance and how to be tolerable to one another. This film has countless topics that I, as an adult, thought were very well-addressed, such as personal relationships, family and friends, and courage and keeping one's promises. PLUS, the voice-overs were excellent! Four and a half to five stars. Oh, how I wish I saw this in 3D!
