Fram TGA7626 Tough Guard Rigid Panel Air Filter for Lexus and Toyota Vehicles

I ordered 2 of these filters for my 96 4Runner SR5 since i used them before and like them. Well as someone else said these may come in the Tough Guard box but they aren't the Tough Guard filters which are "Yellow Filter paper and Oiled" in a think black rubber housing but the "Extra Guard" that are "White and Dry" in the same housing. Both boxes are like this so i checked 2 Walmarts and each had Tough Guard boxes containing bothcolor filter types.Update: I called Fram about the filter being white and not the yellow color and after talking with a "engineer" (hum), the phone rep said that depending on where the filters were made they can be Yellow or White to check the side of the filter. It's listed where in the world it was made, Mine said Mexico. If it felt slick and had an oil smell then it was the Tough Guard, well smelt like oil but didn't open the filter bag to touch it. I read him the numbers of the side frame of the filter and he said it was a new production filter so I just must have gotten one with a white filter and black frame. He really didn't know more than the web site said.My conclusion: I don't know, one thing I noticed is tough guard filters are always shrink wraped in the box. Check them for a oil smell. I'm not saying either type of filter is bad matter of fact the Extra Guard is a new type filter that was rated to stop 99% of the dirt by Honeywell testing but for me I prefer the Tough Guard.Update 4/2014: I ordered 2 filters again from here simply for price and convenience and they are the white filter ones again. They came shrink wraped in the box like the tough guard are supposed to so looks like the filters are white now and not yellow.

Easy to install and great quantity

Gave it 5 stars as the filter material seems to be decent quality. Minor issue is that the filter was a little harder to install compared to Toyota brand. The plastic air filter body was a few microns bigger than the old one but enough that it wouldn't easily slide down into the holder on the vehicle without pushing on it, and then after it got halfway down I realized it was difficult to remove. The filter installs vertically on my vehicle and other people may not have the same issue. I compared it against my old filter and figured out that lightly sanding the plastic edges that surrounds the outside of the filter material would take care of the issue. Not a big deal and easily solved with sandpaper. It only took a minute to fix. I'll still buy Fram again as their quality is usually good for the price.

Ordered filter off of Amazon because the two national auto parts stores were out of stock on this engine filter. It’s for a 2002 Toyota Tacoma and you figure both stores would have extra or a knock off brand for a very popular make and model of vehicle. Amazon delivered filter the next day at a similar price including shipping. I want to support local businesses but it’s frustrating when they can’t sell me a product I need and can’t tell me when it will be in stock.

I had previously used this filter before but the last time I changed air filters I couldn't find it at any of the local stores so I got the standard Fram air filter which I also had a hard time finding. The reason I prefer the Tough Guard air filters is that they are impregnated with oil which increases the filters ability to trap dirt. I know the K&N washable filters are real popular but personally I wouldn't give a plug nickle for all of them. Why would anyone want to remove their air filter, wash it out, wait for it to dry, and then spray it down with oil? I seriously doubt that washing those types of filters removes all the dirt so in effect the only time that they are 100% clean is when they are new. As far as I,m concerned air filters should be replaced when they are dirty with a brand new one. I have used Fram air filters and oil filters for many years and have always been very happy with them.

I ordered three Fram engine air filters for three different vehicles. This particular filter was easy to install and was a perfect fit for my 2003 Toyota Tacoma 3.4L 6 cylinder.
