out dated set. Most of what you need for the class is NOT included
This is the discontinued kit. If you are taking the class that goes with the kit there our 5 additional tips you need to buy PLUS the practice cards which are all included if you buy the correct set. This one is outdated and next to useless.

Wilton Course 1 Student Kit
Save your money and buy one of the wilton kits that come with the caddy. This kit is not a good value. It doesn't come with the practice sheets. You have to buy the book too. If you can get a coupon at Michael's or Jo-Anns you can buy a kit at 50% or 40% off.

Okay product
When I got the set it was three plus weeks after I had ordered it and the package was smushed and the box was broken. I would buy the set from Wilson, it is cheaper and gets there in perfect condition.

Overpriced on Amazon! Retails for less at craft stores!
This kit retails for $14.99 at most craft stores - Joann's, Michael's, Hobby Lobby. And with most of those you can use a 40% off coupon from the Sunday paper to get it even cheaper.

Perfect for taking Wilton's Course 1 Cake Decorating Class or teaching yourself
This is not going to have EVERYTHING you will ever need in cake decorating. However, this kit does help you get started if you want to take the Wilton level one class for cake decorating. You can also get the level one course book and teach yourself. I think it's a good starter kit. All of their kits are cheaper than if you bought the items individually. Very close to the same price as the craft stores like Hobby Lobby or Michaels.

Great Stuff, but not as complete as it should be...
As it states, this kit includes: metal decorating tips (#3, 12, 16, 21, 67, 104, 2D), two featherweight decorating bags, one disposable decorating bag, two standard tip couplers, practice board set, no. 7 flower nail, decorator art brush, cleaning brush, metal spatula. What I don't like is that this kit gives off the impression that it is all you will mostly need to take the Wilton Course 1 Class, but its not.The bare necessities that really need to attend -including the kit- are: Wilton meringue powder, Wilton Clear Vanilla Extract, Almond Extract or Butter Flavor, Derby Clowns Set, Piping Gel, Wilton Icing Colors, more standard couplers, more disposable or featherweight or parchment paper triangles icing bags (whichever you prefer), tooth picks for tip clogging and wax paper for image transfer. And thats just the literal bare necessities. That's less then whats listed as "esstentials - must have items" in the Course 1 book materials listing in the front of the book. Then there is more you should have for ease in the class such as the angled spatula, icing tip #798 and a 16in featherweight icing bag to use with it. Bake easy spray and a cake transporter since you take one to every class. Then, unless you want to throw all of your supplies in a plastic box which is hard to dig through during class looking for the materials you need (I know, I've done it) you need atleast the Wilton caddy/(toolbox) for ease in transporting and storing tips and such.I think Wilton should include a few more things in the kit since they made one in the first place for the class, such as the derby clowns since after your first class you have to go buy them for the 2nd class (although they are only an additional $1.99). The kit should include more couplers, and maybe some sample sizes of colors and more disposable bags, but since it doesn't, you have to buy it. Total and with a 25% off total purchase coupon, I still spent almost $70 (not including the caddy).I don't want to discourage anyone from taking the class, I had a great time and learned wonderful decorating techniques, but just NOTE, the kit is NOT all you need, it doesn't even cover the basics you need, but it is price-wise to still buy the kit instead of every tip and piece individually. And as stated in the review before this one, the kit on amazon is very overpriced, at craft stores, it is only $19.99 and you can get the 40% off one item coupon out of the Sunday paper from Michael's or at Hobby Lobby during their 50% off Wilton supplies sales that they have a few times a year.

Be Aware Of Dated Reviews!
Many of these reviews are accurate when it comes to the inadequacy of this kit for the Wilton Method cake decorating classes. The kit is still a value for what it contains, and the one thing that it does contain that you must have is the class "text". When considering if you wish to purchase the kit from your local craft store or from Amazon keep in mind that many of these reviews are VERY dated and the prices that they reference at the local craft stores are long since gone. The frequently mentioned price of $19.99 is gone! The kit is $34.95 at all the local Michael's stores in the St. Louis area. Even if you use a 40% off coupon it will bring it down to about $21 dollars. Just wanted to share so that you can make an informed decision with current information.

the basic kit is not enough
- first of all, I just brought the kit from Michael's in CA yesterday, it's $19.99, but you can use the 40% off coupon on it, so don't pay the high Amazon price.- secondly, prepare to shell out anywhere from $20 - $40 for more supplies you will need in addition to the contents of this basic box. You will not be able to make your class project if you don't have the Meringue Powder, materials for the cake, and also material for the icing.- some things you will need in addition (and not included in Kit #2 either), turn table for the cake to sit on, icing color, piping gel, more bags + coupler + tips if you want to play more.- you will also need the cardboard for the cake to sit on, and maybe a box to carry the cake around? ( I'd say use the turn table and reuse a cake box from your past purchases of birthday cakes
