Diamond Candy 40L Hiking Backpack Waterproof Daypack for Men and Women

Im quite sure this wasnt intended for it but ... for the money you pay I can argue it's the best hunting day pack online. I purchased mine 3 years ago and am prepared to leave a legit review. Saddle up. I am just now about to buy a 2nd one as the first is finally starting to tear. I have used this on literally hundreds of hikes and hunts in the national forest. This backpack is exactly big and strong enough to hold about 35lbs of venison in game bags, and have a buck horns sticking out the top. Then hike a mile+ uphill to the truck. This is including all the smaller organzier pockets full of gadgets. Impressive for a framless (what i call schoolbag or napsack style). I could get away with still using it but I'll replace before this company realizes they could charge double with few improvements. I customize mine a little- I don't use a water bladder. But the holder thing for the hose on your chest strap is PERFECT fit for a flextone grunt call. Mine permanently lives there, and I can make grunt calls, or a snort-weeze combo hands free! I love all the organization pockets for my gadgets. The small pockets along your waist strap are a convenient size. One side i put my Windicator, and extra SD cards (trailcams), the other side fits either a small rangefinder for bow season, or a classic primos bleat can during rifle. The kicker is the blaze orange rain fly. I use that for orange during rifle season, or while packing meat out just so people don't mistake the horns sticking out of my pack for a live deer. There's a small compartment at the top by the hanging strap that's great for keys/wallet.... or a stash roll of TP. Negatives- the zippers all still work great, but I cut all tabs and replace them with paracord because they do make a metal jingle sound nobody wants in the woods. There's lots of extra exterior straps that are fairly unnecessary so I cut them off. The lining inside the front compartment is a cheap material so it's prone to fray. Especially if you put a heavy knife or something abrasive in it. All very minor or fixable issues. My pack is tearing at the seam on top as mentioned so obviously the value of this pack has to end somewhere. But im hard on gear in general, and 3 years with 9 deer hauled though the woods is a solid performance. I expect this to be a maximum average lifespan for this pack with the stress it was put under. I don't think it gets any better than this for under $50

So far, I am quite pleased with this backpack as it has many features usually found on more higher end backpacks. As an Appalachian Trail section hiker, I have many backpacks and my standards are high. On the AT something must work 100% of the time or you just don’t bring it. Face it, if a backpack falls apart 30 miles from the nearest town, you are in big trouble. To be clear, I have no plans to bring this pack on the AT, frankly I need more than 40 liters for a week to 10 days on the trail. If I was out overnight perhaps. That being said, this pack has many good features that impressed me. I purchased this for use in town, rather than drive, I walk to the grocery store. One buys less so you are forced to focus on what you need, this saves money and provides as good work out. Naturally I bring the groceries home in a smaller backpack. The AT packs are overkill. My old backpack of many years has a developed a bad zipper and needed to be replaced. I found this on sale and gave it a shot. Looking at this pack the materials and sewing look fine, the zippers are not YKK, but they look stout. Top to bottom, there is the obligatory grab loop. There is an unusual top pocket that will not fit a cellphone but will fit sunglasses. The main pocket is quite large and roomy. It has a padded sub-pocket for a laptop that fits my 14-inch computer, held in place with a Velcro strap. Behind that there is a smaller pocket with the usual sub-pockets, one zips, and pen holders etc. Right at the back is a smaller pocket that will fit a cell phone if you want to risk one there, a security concern. There is another pocket right at the bottom where the included rain cover lives. I have not used the cover and I am not a fan of them because water always finds a way under them. Rather I waterproof the pack body and I keep things in the pack in plastic bags as a pack liner if rain is expected, a hard learned lesson from the AT. I cannot speak to the water resistance of the pack but in my book, nothing is waterproof unless I have sprayed it with silicone myself. At the bottom are two straps with clip on fasteners for a light package, a small sleeping bag or tent etc. I always clip a carabiner to anything carried in such a way lest it get lost. Along the back there is a daisy chain of loops on each side and a crisscross elastic bungee to hold say a jacket, I always find a second way to attach a jacket, lest it wiggle free and fall unnoticed. There are loops ostensibly for trekking poles, I have not used those loops. On the side there are 2 mesh outside pockets that will fit a one liter water bottle each. There are two very useful straps with clip on fasteners to tighten and redistribute the weight of the load and to hold larger items in one of the mesh pockets. Such straps are rare for a pack of this size and at this price point. The back is padded. There are load lifter straps, which are rare for a pack of this size and at this price point. The shoulder straps are well padded. There is an adjustable sternum strap, with a cheap orange whistle of dubious utility. There is a fairly broad waist belt with two-way adjustments and two small hip belt pockets, they will not hold a phone but they will hold keys or snacks. Such a waist belt is rare for a pack of this size and at this price point. So far, I have had a gallon of milk, various canned goods, some fruit and vegetables in it, weighing perhaps 25 to 30 pounds, and I carried it with no problem. At present, it exceeds my expectations for a pack at this price point.

For reference: I compared this to the Maelstrom 40l, and a similar bag to the Maelstrom we had at home. I have traveled a lot and have more bags and rollers than I care to admit. After a recent trip to Europe where my US regulation carry on wouldn’t fit European airplane overheads, and cobblestone streets and sidewalks made my wheeled luggage more like wrestling with a bull, I decided to rethink how to pack for my next trip abroad. PROS and what stood out AND the trick I learned: The Diamond Candy is sewn with smaller stitches, which will hold up better. It has the largest storage pockets on the waist band and holds my iPhone 12 easily. The water bottle holders are larger. The padded tablet pocket floats and keeps my iPad from touching the ground. A huge plus for protecting it. Bright colored rain cover. Multiple attachment points. Multiple, easily accessible pockets. Fabric zipper pulls that are NOT finger-sized loops (which would be easy for pick pockets to unzip.) The liner fabric and pocket fabric inside the back is higher quality. Ideally I wanted to use the Doughnut Colorado that I already have. What changed my mind? the comfortable shoulder pads, waist band with storage pockets, and outside pockets that come in handy when at the airport, on a train or walking. The trick I learned will help me board the plane and not have to fuss with accessing what I need once I sit down. HERE’S THE TRICK. Get an airplane seat storage pocket to hold ehat you need when you’re flying (tablet, book, power bank, eye mask, ear plugs, glasses.) Lay this backpack on the bed, place the seat storage pocket on the backpack. Unclip the sleeping back straps. Use them to make an X across the storage pocket. Clip them into the trek pole clips. This means you now have loose trek straps. Easy peasy. Cross them in an X across the front. Clip them into the (now unused) sleeping bag clips. This workaround actually provides more attachments in front. I travel a lot, and I can’t express how much easier this is going to make going through security, waiting in lines (wearing the pack. No luggage to wheel), and transitioning from putting my things in the overhead, wishing I had taken out this or that. I have tried wearing travel jackets with pockets so I have much of what I need. THIS seat pocket solution and strapping it to the back of the backpack is the easiest solution of all.

I read tons of reviews and was indecisive over this pack or a different one here on Amazon. I went ahead and took the chance on this one because I needed a larger day pack. It holds what I need it to and isn't overly large. The zippers are very smooth to open and close which is a huge bonus for me. The interior laptop compartment holds the little 11" Dell netbook with room to spare. I knocked off a star because the bottom straps to hold a sleeping bag should be slightly longer. I was able to just BARELY clip them over an inexpensive sleeping bag I got here on Amazon. It rolls up into a stuff sack that is kind of average sized for kids standard sleepover style sleeping bags. It clipped on, BUT the strap length was maxed out and it was a real struggle to buckle. I won't be carrying a sleeping bag every day, but if I wanted to use this bag as a bug out bag, I might look elsewhere. I need to test the strap size with a Polish army surplus poncho tent I ordered and will update the results. It does look like the video reviews other customers shared. It seems a little small inside over what I was expecting from watching other reviews of 40L backpacks on YouTube but I don't have anything else to compare it to. It is holding up beautifully to daily light use since I got it though. As a daypack for an adult,or a book bag for a kid I might get another one. As a serious bug out bag I think I'd look for something with slightly longer straps on the bottom to hold a sleeping roll without Hulking the straps closed with all your strength.

I have only bought Kelty packs my entire life because they are the best, hands down. However, our family sets a budget for the 'cousins' to get each other gifts, so I had to find a pack for our son and I researched the reviews extensively and chose this one. This pack is literally rivaling my old Kelty day pack in quality and construction. The material is lighter weight than a Kelty pack but I've tested it and this material is strong and very good quality. Rip-resistant. Zippers on a backpack are one of those things that differentiates a good pack from a bad one. You could argue there are burlier zippers for a pack that has to go through a lot of wear and tear and these zippers are great so far. Shoulder straps are very good. Adjustment straps are the way they should be. Comfortable fit. Son loves the compartments for laptops, tablets and books as he wanted this partly for daily college use. I read other reviewers say it wasn't a 40L pack. I didn't scientifically measure the volume but maybe they just don't know how to use the expandable straps to get the full size/volume out of it. Seems plenty big to me to use as a day pack. The only one thing I wish it had is a hole at the top for a hydration bladder hose, because there is a compartment inside that seems like it would fit a hydro perfectly but no hole to run the hose through (although this is not advertised as a hydro-pack, so I can't blame for that). But if you wanted to put a bladder in it, you could simply run the hose out the top of the double zipper if zipped both to the center-top and ran it over the shoulder. That's how I converted my old Kelty into a hydro pack. Maybe not ideal but works fine. Rain cover fits nicely into one of many small compartments at the top for easy-access if a storm pops up. Great little lightweight pack.

Love this backpack. I bought it to replace an REI backpack that was falling apart after almost 25 years of use. I looked at lots of other backpacks but none of them had all the features I was looking for including a hip belt. I recently used this pack for the first time traveling on a domestic flight. I love all the features including the laptop sleeve and multiple pockets to store and organize all my stuff. I can squeeze a 32 oz nalgene water bottle in the outside sleeves, but it's a very tight fit, so I opted to carry a narrower water bottle on my trip. The color is bright and eye-catching. I am looking forward to using this pack on all my future travels.

I LOVE this daypack. Got the 40L size for an 18 mile mountain hike, and my old daypack wasn’t large enough. I love it so much I use it for all my hikes now. 1 Liter Nalgene water bottles fit in the side mesh pockets. Can get the bottles in/out by taking one should harness off my back. Very top small pocket is perfect for my wallet and car keys. Very small bottom pocket (storage for rainfly I don’t use) perfect for my trash. 2 larger storage compartments perfect for food and clothes layers, with an internal divider in the largest, a divider small zipper pocket and pencil sleeves in the smaller, plus a 7x8” exterior pocket perfect for 1st aid basics. 2 pockets on hip belt great for Kleenex, chapstick, small bag of snacks. Tie down straps on back great when used with carabiner for water shoes (or boots when using water shoes). Comfortable. Well made. Light weight. I’m a pretty serious hiker and review is after 4+ months of heavy use. LOVE IT!!! Got a fancy name pack on sale at half price that still cost me more than twice this one and it stays in my closet.

I didn't expect much from a $35 backpack. I mean it can be any good, right? Well, I have to say it's pretty good. The buckles are a little flimsy. I don't know if it'll hold up to the abuse I am going to put it through but, it's a $35 backpack. I do "day" hikes. I've climb a dozen peaks so far this Spring/Summer. I try to do one each weekend. I try to get in at least 1,000 feet of elevation gain each hike. Now that it has warmed up, I could probably hike with just a Camelback but I like to have a few essentials with me (rain gear, long underwear, fleece, first aid kit, knife, Leatherman, water, emergency mylar blankets, compass, snack, poncho). I'm prepared to spend the night, if necessary. Plus carrying a pack makes it harder work and better training for longer, higher hikes. I was looking at REI ($120) and Osprey ($220) and Mountain Gear ($349). Then I thought "Why would I spend that much if a $35 pack will suffice? It isn't a fashion show, after all." I took it out for its maiden voyage. A three hour hike with 1,500 feet of elevation gain. I didn't have much in it (just the stuff listed above) so, I cinched it in tight and off I went. It started raining. I didn't put the rain cover on. I figured my stuff would be wet but, when I got to the summit, I was pleasantly surprised that everything was nice an dry. I did put the rain cover on for the descent. Everything worked well. It looks pretty good (red) and has lots of helpful pockets. I may replace the buckles with heftier ones. Will it last? We'll find out, but it is a $35 backpack. It suits my needs. If I have to buy one or two replacements, it is still less expensive than the competition.

Arrivato per tempo, in ottime condizioni. L'ho usato la prima volta per un viaggio in Messico on the road e me ne sono letteralmente innamorata! Ho detto addio al trolley da trascinare. Ora lo uso per qualsiasi trasferta o viaggio breve. Usato anche per un viaggio di 3 gg a Santorini con Easyjet. Sono riuscita a portarlo sull'aereo con me, senza doverlo spedire in stiva, dato che rientra nelle misure standard per un bagaglio a mano. Punti di forza: CAPIENZA: Con 40lt ci fate comodamente 3/4gg estivi di vestiti puliti e oggettistica varia (io personalmente lo riempio molto! Se siete minimalisti potete farci anche 7 gg ;) ), mentre in inverno il vestiario occupa ovviamente di più. Il tessuto è leggero, morbido e si adatta perfettamente agli ingombri. Le cerniere sono elasticizzate e resistono bene anche in tensione. Ha tantissime tasche (anche imbottite, porta pc, o rivestite in tessuto morbido, per oggetti delicati. In più ha degli spazi laterali per acqua/ombrello) e agganci esterni utili, per cappotti e moschettoni. COMODITÀ e LEGGEREZZA: Lo adoro. Rispetto ad altri zaini da me acquistati, devo dire che questo è il più leggero (circa 1 Kg), nonostante sia pensato per sostenere la schiena con imbottiture professionali etc. (Se avete dei limiti di peso in aereo, questa skill vi risulterà fondamentale! Solitamente gli zaini di questa tipologia, >40 Lt hanno sempre una struttura che già da vuoti li fa pesare dai 2 Kg in su). Comodo sempre e comunque, anche se dovete portarlo sulle spalle camminando per ore, o in viaggio in aereo come bagaglio a mano. Ha una spessa e morbida imbottitura sulla schiena e degli appositi agganci sul torace e sul busto che, facendo aderire lo zaino al corpo, aiutano a distribuire i carichi in modo uniforme e bilanciato. Vi sembrerà che faccia parte di voi! Leggerissimo! In più ha la copertura anti pioggia, che potete mettere e togliere, a seconda delle evenienze. Lo riacquisterei altre 1000 volte.

Sitz sehr gut, viele Fächer auch kleine für Schlüssel oder ein paar Euros, passt genug für eine Wanderung rein.

Mein Sohn, 12 Jahre, nimmt ihn für die Schule. Tragfähigkeit ist gut. Es passen alles Bücher etc. Rein. Die vielen kleinen versteckte Taschen mag er sehr. Optisch wie auf den Foto. Eine gute Verarbeitung von den naehten, reissverschluss. Bisher, ganz klar, 🤞 hoch

This is the perfect size for day hikes. Lots of room for your supplies without being bulky. Variety of colors to choose from. Highly recommend purchasing for yourself or as a gift.
