I got away from reading books and just listened to them on my IPhone. I wanted to get away from electronics and feel that holding a book again. Looking forward in reading my book after reading “In Five Years” she wrote. She’s an excellent writer . She keeps you wanting to keep reading. I would recommend Rebecca Serle books Review: Good non-sci fi book with a sci-fi element - Books that involve some kind of time traveling element that make a character examine their lives in a new way are probably my favorite kind of books. This one had the added fun of the magical setting of Positano, which I have now added to my travel wish list. I enjoyed the setting, the whimsy, and the main character's interaction with another version of her mother as the main character process her own grief. I saw one twist coming but not all of them. All good stuff. The ending and one of the twists I did not see coming are what prevent me from giving this book 5-stars. I felt that the main character's self-evaluation wrapped up a little too conveniently. I can't say much more without spoilers, which I will detail below.... SEMI-SPOILERS After all of her pondering about how she just drifted through life, let things happen rather than making things happen, including her own relationship, I was disappointed that she then....went back to her same relationship. It was a little too convenient that oh hai this was good after all. was it, though? Or was she just vulnerable and looking for something familiar? Also - the plotline of a woman leaving her underage children in pursuit of self-fulfillment is one that pops up periodically in fiction. The unstated (or sometimes stated) point is that hey, men having been doing this for years and everyone's fine with it, why is it not ok when women do with it? People: it's not okay for ANYONE of any gender to peace out on their underage children in pursuit of self-fulfillment. Yes, it's hard and it sucks, but it sucks ever so much worse for your confused underage child(ren) for whom you are the entire world. If my husband had peaced out to find himself when I had a six month old at home, I don't think I would have been waiting for him when he came back. So, a good read, and clearly made me think even if I disagreed with the conclusions.

reflective magical realism
I love Rebecca Serle’s writing. It’s a breeze to read through and it really transports you into the world. Overall, this book was so reflective. I truly felt the grief that Katy was feeling and understood and could relate to the feelings she had about her mother after losing her. There are some things you never stop and think about or question until perhaps it’s too late. Spoilers ahead: I loved the magical realism aspect of this book and the twists towards the end, however I really could not get on board with the cheating trope. Magical realism or not, I just didn’t like it. I didn’t like the disconnection with her husband from the beginning and then felt she was so unfair to him the entire time. It felt very selfish and unfair even though she was grieving. I can’t justify it because time travel or not, it actually happened and she was conscious of her betrayal as it was happening and then it was like it never happened. With all that being said, I understand the concept of her mother being her true love and herself feeling lost without her but I still can’t love past it. She was lost in her grief, I get it but I feel for Eric. I still very much enjoyed the book and the story. I loved the scenery and the writing.

Beautiful story that takes you away.
I picked this book because I was going to my friends wedding on the Amalfi coast. I heard about this book from a podcast episode of What Should I Read Next and they did a book flight and this was one for Italy. While my intention was to read it there, I was to busy experiencing my first trip to Europe. I started this book on the way home and boy was it the right book at the right time. It was great to be taken back to the place I just got to visit. While we didn't stay in Positano, we got to visit it a couple times on our trip and did and saw a lot of what was described in this book. Also, while it wasn't the loss of my mom, my family lost a very close friend and this book does a beautiful job of capturing what it means to find yourself again after loss or even just your day to day life. Sometimes it feels like you wake up and realize wait what is happening and where did the time go and this book reminds you that it's important to not lose yourself in your life. And in know it might be cliche, but Italy and the Amalfi Coast is magical and has this was of taking you out of your life and taking you to another time all the while reminding you to stay present. While this book may not be for everyone, it was the perfect book at the perfect time for me.

Grief, healing and self discovery
One Italian Summer was a little magical vaca read! It's a journey or grief, healing and self discovery. I enjoyed the mother daughter dynamic but I did find the FMC a little frustrating at times. The Positano setting made it so dreamy and whimsical though! It really felt like you were there.

„history, memory is by definition fiction. once an event is no longer present, but remembered, it is narrative. and we can choose the narrative we tell - about our own lives, our own stories, our own relationships. we can choose the chapters we give meaning.“ (quote) this was wonderful different than expected -i didn’t know it involved some form of time travel- but great. honestly the only thing i disliked was the cheating. but that was thankfully a very short moment in the book. but i absolutely loved the mother/daughter relationship. how the daughter learns to understand not only herself but also that her mother (her parents overall) are not just her parents but their own people, with their own struggles and history. that they had their own dreams and ambitions and that while as a child your life and their life with you might seem perfect - maybe your parents wanted something else too. not because they are disappointed with what they have or gave up to raise t he r child but just cause they are human beings on their own beside being parents. this was fun and sad but also brilliant and entertaining. it shows the love for italy, how vibrant and life changing that country can be to anyone visiting and that it’s always a good idea to travel and trying to fin yourself first and foremost. can’t wait to read more by this author!
