Full Featured, Easy Setup, Sounds great!
Finally, an AVR that does what I need it to do, and it's a pleasure to use! I bought this to replace a Pioneer Elite SC-65 and needed it to run my 7.1 channel setup + Zone 2 (patio speakers), with a 65" HDTV. In addition to wanting something with a modern user interface that was easy to setup and that sounded great, I was looking for something that would allow me to stream music from a variety of sources (iPhone, computer, Amazon Music, Spotify, etc.), and play those sources easily either in BOTH the main room and the Zone 2 patio, OR have separate sources playing inside and outside the house. This AVR does all of those things.Because of the modern user friendly UI and system setup, I was able to have it up and running and calibrated pretty quickly. The Audyssey calibration system worked great. The thing that was the biggest pleasant surprise was a feature built into the HEOS app, which allows you to: 1) select easily between multiple streaming music options, 2) turn Zone 2 (and possibly zone 3, but I don't have a zone 3) on or off from the app, AND independently/separately control the volume of the main room and Zone 2, right from the App. Being able to quickly turn zone 2 on or off from my phone and control the zone 2 volume from my phone while out on the patio is great! Maybe that's a silly thing, and maybe other AVRs have always made this easy, but on my Pioneer Elite SC-65, it was difficult to get zone 2 set up right, and digital sources couldn't be sent to Zone 2. So, it always felt harder than it should be.I should note that I have not used HEOS to stream to HEOS enabled speakers. I have just used it to manage and play streaming music content through the AVR to B&W (wired) speakers in my main room and Bose weatherproof outdoor speakers in Zone 2. But that functionality works great.I don't have a 4K HDR television, so I can't comment on its ability to pass the 4K signal. But, I must say I really like the fact that the video setup options include presets that allow you to select various profiles depending on your need/preference. For instance, in the past, I always found that if I used the same color/brightness calibrated television settings that I use for my BlueRay/DVD player while watching content streamed from Netflix or Amazon Prime, the streamed content was always too dark (no shadow detail). But the Marantz lets you assign a "streaming" profile to the input I use for Amazon Fire, and it boosts the brightness nicely (just for that source) without causing other problems. The AVR has more than enough power for my needs, and my room is 20' X 30' and is open to two other rooms. Music and movies sound great. So, to re-cap, it sounds great for both music and movies, is easy to setup and use, and HEOS makes things like configuring and streaming music to Zone 2 easy and enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Great sounding and versatile receiver
I recently had to replace my Onkyo TX-NR818 receiver when it died from the Onkyo HDMI board defect. I was planning to replace it in any case since it had fallen behind in the AVR standards and versions rat race and didn't support some of my other equipment correctly. I had already decided that the Marantz 7012/7013 would replace the Onkyo and the "last years model" price drop for the 7012 sealed the deal for me. The Marantz has noticeably better sound quality than the Onkyo which I expected. Subjectively it has a smoother, less fatiguing sound than the Onkyo did and I find myself enjoying long sessions of music listening again. The Marantz has all of the current desirable features of a modern receiver and has integrated beautifully with my fairly elaborate setup - 5.1.4 in a dedicated room with 6 source devices. I gave a 5 star rating for the Easy to Use category but that must be taken with a grain of salt. As with any modern receiver there are a huge number of things that can be configured or customized which is not exactly "easy" especially if you're new to it. However in actual use the receiver is easy to use. I especially like the look of the receiver with Marantz's signature gently curved side faceplate panels and overall clean appearance with only two knobs and the Marantz "porthole" display window. Are there things that I don't like about it? Only two that come to mind. Although I like the external styling, including the porthole display, the display itself is only marginally useful because of its small size and the limited info it can show. That problem is easily solved by folding down the front panel to expose the large display but doing so messes up the clean look. I also wish Marantz would provide a more tactile quality feel to the two control knobs. For the input selector having detent for each input would really add to the quality feel and would make changing inputs easier. The volume control also feels like the plastic knob it is and does not have that smooth quality feel when turning. My guess is that most people control their receivers with a remote and rarely use the front panel knobs so this may not be an issue for them but I have owned some expensive two channel equipment that felt well, expensive and I miss that. Speaking of remotes, the included remote is well laid out and has on demand back lighting which is very welcome. I think the remote has some minor third party device control capability but I haven't looked into that because I use an activity based remote because my wife refuses to deal with 9 different remotes. In use it does run warm and I have it installed in an open back cabinet so I added an AC Infinity AIRCOM T8 which I also recommend. The T8 does a great job of removing heat it does make some fan noise but it is easily masked by whatever is playing.

Excellent receiver for both audio sources as well as video
Great audio for all the various sources (CD, vinyl, FLAC, etc); and in the home theater arena Dolby Atmos and DTS X are very impressive. Excellent video switching for both HDR and Dolby Vision. Very happy with the performance.**** 6 months later, I have noticed that it can run hot when listening to it at a loud volume for an extended period of time (say at 75-80 for 3+ hours) - but still very happy with its performance...just make sure to give it plenty of ventilation.
