Beautiful world building, if a bit rambly
Okay first of all, the world-building in this is beautiful. I felt like I could almost smell the close air of the forest, feel tendrils of mist twine through my fingers as I strolled around the campus... wonderful.However.It went on a little too long for my tastes. And sometimes there was excruciating detail in things like costumes and shrubbery rather than what the characters were acting like or thinking in crucial moments. And I ended up being more intrigued by side characters than the main ones. At first Saffron comes across as resigned but head strong, unashamed of his short comings and determined to do what makes him happy while accepting his lot under

Romantic fae fantasy
This was a beautiful romantic fantasy set in a world of fairies and I loved every moment of it. Saffron is a human who was given to the fey as a child in exchange for luck but now his time is up and he's being sent back. Desperate to remain, Saffron hopes to gain patronage in order to stay in the fey world even if he is basically a slave to them at their greatest school. When he finds a book with annotations that match his thoughts, Saffron thinks he might have found his dream partner; but, it soon turns out that the fairy the book belongs to is none other than Prince Cylvan, the heir to the throne. Cylvan has a reputation for cruelty, and when Saffron accidentally learns his true name (making him capable of manipulating Cylvan with a few words) it seems as if he's about to be another human killed. Instead the two make a deal, if Saffron can help Cylvan to find a way to shield himself from the use of his true name in the library, then Cylvan will make sure Saffron can stay. However after fellow human servants are killed by a wolf prowling the grounds, and the fairy staff don't care, Saffron takes it upon himself to try and save his people- while also falling in love with a fae.I loved this book from the first page, Saffron and Cylvan's relationship is gorgeous and realistic and full of some wonderful moments. I'm not a huge romance reader but I really enjoyed this, especially as it examined the importance of consent and the impact of abuse on people, while also combining it with a murder mystery element. I really enjoyed the scenes with Saffron and his fellow humans, especially when he's forced to choose between his growing feelings for Cylvan and his responsibility to his friends and the ones where he spent time with pixies. I never expected the ending of this book at all, I was completely wrong about who the wolf was, and I can't wait to see where the sequel might go.

An instant favorite!! Must read for fae enthusiasts
Prince of the Sorrows completely swept me off my feet and I need everyone to read this lovely fantasy romance novel.Fae is one of the most intriguing but hard-to-do-right paranormal creatures in fantasy stories. there's something about those beautiful but horrible creatures that's especially enticing. i find Prince of the Sorrows' interpretation of the fae creature and their world to be very compelling.Set in the MorrÃgan Academy, humans are kept around as servants facilitating the lives of high fey creatures. i like(?) how the fae creatures' cruelty stems not only from malicious intent but also from the way the society is structured. and as the story progresses and we get more and more snippets of the myths and history of the world, you see more and more of the layers to the world. it's just fascinating and i sincerely hope we go more into the political intrigue in the sequel.Of course, as a fantasy romance, the highlight is the romance. And oh my god do I adore our main characters and their romance with my entire being. Saffron is so precious. he's a human looking for an academic endorsement so he can stay in the fey world. even though humans are not allowed to learn and be educated, he's taught himself how to read and write and there's nothing he wanted more than to be able to access the academy's library. Cylvan is the prince who is potentially the answer to all of Saffron's problems. something occurred and the two found themselves contractually bound to spend more time together as they search for answers in the library.if you like books, grand libraries that feel magical (and late nights spent in libraries together), this one is going to be a treat. i cannot really explain it but there's just something so romantic about falling in love over books, being in love with the idea of someone over words etcthere's also a very good dose of hurt/comfort in The Prince of Sorrows. Got me feeling actual chest pains sort of angst (it's so good I love it so much). Saffron and Cylvan do not particularly start off the right foot. There's a bit of antagonism between the two (and we only read from Saffron's perspective) but I love how their relationship progresses and you could see how the two come to care for each other. it's slow burn, it's angsty but once we get there!! the way they take care of each other!! the tender ways they treat each other!! it's so soft it's so comforting it's just everything I love from my romances. If I have to pick one thing I didn't love as much about the book it would be how the inciting incident of this book is not the most believable. Basically, the book started off with Saffron stumbling into a high fey and he got told of the high fey's true name (one of the only two things that could compel a high fey). It's not the most logical for the high fey to just give up something like that but (and it's a big but!!) don't let this deter you from continuing reading. This is later explained and even if you don't find the explanation very convincing, by that point, there's just so much to love about this book.Honestly, I cannot recommend Prince of the Sorrows enough. also that ending?? I need the sequel ASAP.

My new favourite book
I am so glad that this is a series because I think this is now one of my favourite books, if not my favourite.I have been looking for something like this for so long. As someone who adores gothic and darker romance as a whole I am incredibly happy to find a fantastically written MM story within the style.I have no complaints about the story. The plot is intriguing though a little slow to start, the characters are wonderfully written (Cylvan being my favourite), the tension raises at a steady pace, the romance is alluring, and the intimate scenes are perfectly handled. The story is full of strongly handled LGBTQ+ representation and the writing style is beautiful.I am incredibly excited to start the second book as soon as I can.

Slow but fun read
This book was amazing! I loved it, I loved the characters, I loved the story, I loved the world building, I loved the plot, and I loved everything about this book. This book is a high fantasy, romance type novel about a fairy Prince and a human who end up in a deal together about trying to find a way to remove the power behind the Prince's true name. This novel had drama and suspense and foreshadowing and really good character building. This book talked about certain dark tropes, and it discussed Royal politics, which I wasn't expecting. I can't really explain how much I love this book and how excited I am for the next installment in the series. This book was really good It is definitely a 5 star read for me and it's probably one of the best queer books that I have read in a long time. Normally when I read queer books they're usually written by cis female authors who just don't understand the complexities of queer relationships or of being queer in general. However, this book was written by a queer author who understands queer relationships and queer experiences, and understands the in's and out's of everything. I can't really say much more it's just a really good book. I really really can't wait for the next book to come out! I'm super excited for it! I can't wait for more. I really want more to the series. I feel like the length of this book was the perfect length for it to really set up the world, set up the plot, and set everything up with the romance and the story perfectly. It got me set up and ready for the next book, and I can't wait to see where the story goes. I can't wait to see the development of these characters and their relationship and I really really hope it doesn't end in a tragedy. I don't want these 2 characters to be sad. I want them to be happy. I want them to end up together and in a happy relationship. My favorite character deserves the whole world and right now he is not being treated as he should. I'm very sad about it and I need to know what's going to happen to Cylvan. I just need to know whats going to happen to him because when we first saw him in the book he was super confident and happy and curious and like yeah he was a brat but like he was a fun brat. But, by the end of the book we start to see how his relationship with his fiancé starts to weigh on him, and we start to see the cracks in their relationship and how toxic and abusive it is. We start to see the effects on Cylvan's super confident and sometimes even arrogant character, and we see by the end of the book him completely broken down. I hope we get to see him heal throughout the rest of the story. All in all, this book is a 5 star read for me. I highly recommend it, and I will definitely be following this series for more~Also the content warning at the beginning of the book was a very nice touch and I really think more books should start implementing that~

Enchanting and impossible to put down
I couldn't imagine that with a cover so stunning, the story behind the two characters could be even more captivating. It's got all of my favourite flavours: dark academia, incredible fantasy world building, slow burn romance full of angst and bitter sweet moments, and surreal writing style which makes this book a true gem.

Honestly my favorite read of 2022!
I’m so soooooo happy I pushed through this book… and the fact that at the beginning I was struggling with it ,wasn’t the book fault but my own! This was so beautiful, incredible read and exactly what I needed. It’s so visual and it call to all senses to read this. I felt, smelled, tasted, saw and heard this book! The story is so rich as wild fruits,Saffron and Cylvan are adorable and omg I just can’t even process anything right now. It’s intriguing, anguishing, so mysterious and thrilling, complex and romantic…I totally recommend this book to anyone who adores Fae, who loves their deceit as well as their beauty!the Night .. what a chapter. And it prove to me that you don’t need total smut to make it sexy and exciting… their connection was everything we need. Ok, there’s some sexy moans envolved and some oil, but damn 🔥🔥🔥🔥And off course our sassy púca! Anything for him, so selfless and caring that the fact that it ended as it did does things To my poor heart 💜

Intriguing
One book I read almost without stopping at all.Kellen outdid themselves with their first book. The worldbuilding is absolutely phenomenal, the description are just right to picture the world and people in your head, feel like you are there. The characters, both main as well as minor ones, were executed well. Although sometimes I felt like Saffron and Cylvan were acting a little erratic but it could very well be explained by their stubbornness.I love reading books that normalize using other pronouns than he and she, Kellen did a splendid job of implementing they/them naturally (as it should be in our world too). And the cover... Absolutely beautiful! All in all I cannot wait to read the 2nd book.As some people mentioned, the first version had some typos and grammatical errors but they have been corrected in the second print.
