If i want to plug it into a 240v 50 amp 14-50 nema outlet should i order the 40 or 50 amp?

I would say you need to order the 40 Amp version. The 50 Amp version is only for hardwired applications.. Your max charge rate on a 50 amp breaker will be 40 amps assuming you used 6 gauge wire. I'm not an electrician, just sharing what I was told by mine. Rule of thumb is 20% below rated amps on breaker..

Does this charger work on 15 AMP circuit?

A 15AMP charge cord should have come with the car. It just plugs into the car and into any house outlet. This charger to be of any value needs a 240 V 40amp is what ours is set to. I’d get a certified Electrician to do the installation WTH he 15AMP cord it took about twelve hours to charge our RAV4 Prime. With this Autotel Charger takes 3hours. And you can eat a record and it’s wifi, yo program it and it tells you when t starts and finishes. I’d get an electrician like I said have your questions answered completely.
