The Designer Within: A Professional Guide to a Well-Styled Home

I have been anxiously awaiting the release of this book and it does not disappoint! I have been following John McClain for years and have watched over time as he has evolved into the amazing design professional he is today. What I love is how simple he makes designing the space of your dreams without the stress and overthinking that often comes with it. Its so easy to get in over your head or over-do it and before you know it you get overwhelmed and either quit or end up disappointed. John has such a way with his process that through his gentle guidance helps you find the confidence you need when jumping into a project. He knows how to work smart, uses creativity and he passes his designer tips onto us so that even the non-professional can find their vision and execute beautifully! This book is not only elegant to look through but also very inspiring!

I began following John’s talents when he appeared on HGTV and I follow how he continues to unveil awe inspiring designs.Need a space with a tranquil refuge to escape and relax? Check out his bathrooms and outdoor space. It’s as if you’re on a vacation at a lux retreat without packing your bags and heading to the airport.Whether entertaining a large group, or lounging with friends, John finds amazing use of space to create something special, unique, that sets the tone to match your own lifestyle.He finds ways, and in this book, he helps us find our own ways, to showcase a room, or our entire home.Thank you, John for this book which guides me along the path of courage to become creative as now I have your notes!

This design style is perhaps most reminiscent of a Vegas bachelor. It’s all in your face in a gaudy, look at me way that is sloppy rather than pointed or provocative. Everything looks standard and gauche all at the same time unfortunately.

Not only do we get a look into John’s design style with the beautiful pictures of his work. But we also get a walk-through of the design process with so many helpful tips throughout the book. I cannot wait to use this guide to unleash my designer within!!

I ordered a new book, but when it arrived it was in pretty rough shape. I had to return.

I’m so excited to have gotten this book. We’ve just recently built our house and John’s ideas are easy to implement and add so much style and class to an otherwise, cookie cut home. Great book!!
