Opening minds
I am European and My Husband is American. He told me to write here that book opens minds describing parenting from around the world and from the perspective of educated Mother. Pleasant to read together as family.

Realistic and validating to the busy, overwhelmed mother.
She’s brutally honest about the trend of helicopter parenting and the reality of the Back is Best campaign. She has a worldly perspective and is also a mother herself. I forced my husband to read it and he liked it as well. It also gave me validation for wanting to keep electronics out of my sons life until at least after 2 years of age.

A Good, But Didactic…
I certainly don’t think this book is poorly written by any means; the author offers some great guidance based on her experiences as a pediatrician, as well as her experiences while living in other countries. In fact, I highlighted many items in the text, hence the 4 stars. The reason I didn’t give it five stars is it was a bit too teachy/preachy for me (personally) at times. There isn’t a ton of doctor jargon, but… there is some.

Great book that eased my anxiety about becoming a parent
This book is great. Will be recommending this to any new parents. I'm so glad I found it before baby was born so that I could become aware of techniques for a less stressed life as a parent.

Not A Textbook.....A Great Read
Written by a very down to earth female doctor. Interesting anecdotes about other cultures makes for a good read.

I highly recommend this to any parent
I don't often stumble upon a parenting book that I find helpful and practical and wise, so this one was a tremendously pleasant surprise. The author offers credibility as not only a cross-cultural parent to four of her own children, but as a pediatrician as well. It is clear that her heart is for parents and children to have a less anxious experience for the years of childhood than is typically seen in our country. This book offers the practical tools to put into place principles that might feel counter-cultural in America, but that my husband and I have found to be instrumental in our parenting thus far. Some of these include:Nurturing a marriage or partnership is as important to child-rearing as nurturing the child.Children are strong and resilient-unless parents teach them not to be.Sometimes a parent's needs must come first.Picking eating is learned, not innate. There is such a thing as being too careful. (The Confident Parent, 5-6)I deeply appreciated the permission Jane Scott gives to find freedom in parenting, by offering truly practical ways of finding a less anxious, more balanced way of doing life as a family. I highly recommend this to any parent. A+ for me.
