Pretty Darn Pleased!
By way of full disclosure, we are using this primarily on hardwood and tile floors. Though it did reasonably well the one little room with a medium pile carpet. We bought this in full expectation of returning it because our need is challenging and the reviews were lackluster. We specifically got one of the smallest width ones because we wanted it to do under our dining room table and the chair rear legs have a narrow gap. I take the thing out of the box and find it is still and 1/8" too wide. Argh! I figure this thing is going back. I charge it up and read the manual. It looks pretty impressive. I figure give a little try, if it doesn't impress, clean it and return it. It heads out of the dock and works over to two dining room chairs backed up against a cabinet. It fiddles around a bit and finally works into the front of the chair and then proceeds to clean under both chairs and come out. I am thinking if I flip a chair up on the table at night it will get under the table and work fine. We have two major challenges that we want to solve with this thing. First, we suffered a rain/flood/mudslide doing $94K of damage to our home. We are in a constant construction zone with mud and gravel getting tracked in. It's embarassing. I am tired of going to get a cookie at night and stepping on a sharp little rock. Second one of us is a world class quilter/knitter/spinner. We have fiber and thread everywhere! So we want it for that every night. How does it work? Some people say the robots bang into everything. Well maybe, but this one is pretty gentle about it. It does touch but gingerly. It almost knocked over a verticle standing umbrella against the wall, but it didn't. While eating dinner it bumped my toes. The side brushes softly swirled over them, it touched and moved away. I sincerely doubt this could hurt any furniture or woodwork. I don't know what the algorithm they use, but it is pretty good. It wiggles back and forth, spins and turns and goes right through gaps barely larger than it is. It moves semi-randomly. The deal is it pretty much covers the whole 800 sq ft area we are using it on three times on a charge. I did find one space with a narrow entry and getting larger turning counter clockwise can form a trap as can chairs set with a simular opening. It required a little changing of room and furniture spacing. Generally it needs an exit opening the size of a door to exit on any floor space 4 feet square or larger. I am becoming optomistic. I follow it around. It got almost everything. When it went by a storage tub that our daughter's cat food got under it flipped out about 10 pieces, I figured game over. But no, it got all but one and caught that latter on. When I asked it to go back to the dock it fiddled around cleaning as it went. Finally it hadn't sensed the base, so it stopped and spun around 360°, moved forward and did it again. Finally it got a beam on the dock and did a little wiggle step accross the floor to the base. When you hit spot clean it does a circle around the spot where it is working. It gets a 2 foot circle. As for cleaning. I would say it get 98% of the dirt and fiber. It does poorly over rough door mats and gaps in the floor. I ran for an hour and docked it so I could finish other tasks. Then I let it run a full clean. The pictures show the results. It has no problems with small rocks, probably 1/2" long or less. It gets in all the fiber. The first pictures shows you how it packed the box. The second one is after removing the fiber leaving the rocks. It does an excellent job. At this point I am sold on it. Noise is an issue for some of you. We were stunned how quiet it is. I have never heard any vacuum, hand held or otherwise, that was this quiet. We are on the phone with our daughter telling her about it and she says, "I would be afraid to frighten my cat." I said, "Can you hear it?" She said, "No." It was working three feet from the phone. We had to hold the phone right over it for her to hear. It is noisier than our Bosch dishwasher at 45 db, quieter than our refrigerator ice maker, a little loader than the HVAC system and maybe half as loud as a sewing machine. It is so quiet we are going to schedule it for 3:00 AM every night and our bedroom door stays open. It worked fine in the dark. I guess the base homing could be better. Over all it was what QA people call, delighting the customer. Way above our expectations, and at this price a bargain. After two weeks you could not pay me to live without it. Clean floors every morning! We have created some narrow areas where it got trapped. Our soon to be replaced carpet turns out is shag carpet that is very matted. It started loosening it up and got one of the spinner brushes caught in it. We keep it out of there now. Long threads do wrap around the brush roll and have to be removed every few days.

Truly Amazing for Pet Hair!!
Last year, I had a different brand of robot vacuum that I had to unclog dog hair from the base opening every single day. It got old and frustrating fast. That vacuum ended up breaking so after some research I went with this one and WOW! It does a great job keeping up with the pet hair and I haven’t had to unclog it a single time and I’ve been running it every night for the past month. I waited for a sale (which it seems to go on once a month or so) which made it very affordable, especially for how great it works! I would recommend this vacuum, particularly to anyone with pets that shed and want an easy way to keep up with the hair.

UPDATED: stopped working properly in less than a year
UPDATE 11/11/2018 So we purchased it less than a year ago and used it pretty light (occasional usage to pick up some dust/sand) and it stopped working properly. When you hit "clean" it moves backwards instead of forward and stops after ~20 seconds. No error messages on a screen, no clue what's wrong, it just stops cleaning. Wouldn't recommend it to anybody. I regret that we spent this amount of money for such non-reliable product. We decided to purchase a new robovac instead of our old one (iClebo Arte) so we could compare this model with our old one. As we own a regular Shark vacuum cleaner (and I'm very happy with it) we decided to give a shot to Shark's robot vacuum. Plus positive ratings on Amazon persuaded us to take this model (obviously they are paid reviews). And it was our biggest mistake. Pros: - gathers micro particles of dust. I made an experiment cleaning one area with a regular vacuum and then run robovac at the same spot. It really picks up the super small dust particles and lint even after a regular vacuum. - good for pet owners or long hair humans. It has 2 side rotating brushes (basically it was crucial for us while choosing) and a special center brush and together they work good in catching hair and fur. Just remember to clean them ofter as hair tend to be caught up inside the brushes. - easy climbs long-hair rugs (we have a thick "grass-like" rug) and low-profile obstacles thanks to large wheels Cons: - it's absolutely "stupid" vacuum in terms of navigation. Of course, we knew it had no mapping but the way it moves...it's aimless and chaotic. We get used to our iClebo move pattern (with no mapping either but much more intelligent in deciding where to go) where robot goes over every spot in a room. And Shark Ion just drives with no aim or remembering, it could go over and over again one spot but never clean another areas. There is no logic behind its' movements. So you have to manually create obstacles to force it go to a certain area. If Shark Ion bumps into some obstacles you would expect it to "explore" the borders of this obstacles (IClebob did so) in order to continue it's route. But no. It could go in whatever direction it wants to go. That's why it's cleaning pattern so chaotic and leaves "Shark's never been here" areas. - an absolutely useless remote control. Our iClebo remote had directional control. In this case you can navigate your robovac to any needed spot that was missed, for example. And "missing" happens very ofter with this Shark as I stated above. But you have no control over this robovac, you can only stop, start, dock, do a spot cleaning or schedule. I never thought that this functionality could be missed in modern robovacs. - also it has issues with docking. We tried several times to send it to dock but alas....it went to the opposite direction. We followed all the guides about docking area (+we had robovac before so we are experienced owners) but it refuses to find a dock unless you place a robovac right in front of it. - we haven't tried scheduling and don't think we would as it could easily stuck in it's "favorite" spot (in our case, it's a cat's tree) and circle around it endlessly + would never dock back. I wouldn't recommend to leave this robovac unattended. - for some reason it has different speed while moving, Sometimes it could speed up and bump into table or chair on it's full speed. Or it could barely crawl. So no logic again. - smart sensors are supposed to protect from bumping. Really, they DO work but not the way we imagined. Shark Ion "reads' a nearby wall and just turns around instead of cleaning close to the wall. So it just avoids the contact and never drives close to walls. Thus it leaves all the dust in these spots. You need to force it to go there with your legs or use your regular vacuum. - it never knows when the cleaning should be over (but it's obvious as it has no "brain" to remember a room and spaces already cleaned) so it just drives around over and over again. IClebo somehow estimated that all the room was cleaned and returned to a dock station. - we tried it only 3 times for now and it began to make some strange loud noises from inside (some screeching or low rotating) as it's dying To sum up, I really regret we had to leave our iClebo in Europe. While we are very satisfied with an upright Shark vacuum this robot model is a total disappointment. I don't expect it to replace a regular cleaner but at least to do its job to clean a WHOLE room not just some random spots.

Good daily floor maintenance at a reasonable price!
I ordered this little gem with a gift card received for Christmas and have had it for about a week; so far I'm very pleased. I did a lot of research on different brands and models of robotic vacuums, but I kept coming back to this one. I've been extremely pleased with my regular Shark vacuum, so I figured that I'd be happy with this as well. The brand, pricepoint, and positive reviews were the deciding factors for me. What I was looking for is something that could run daily while we were at work so that we come home to reasonably clean floors. So far, he's doing a fantastic job! My observations thus far: The suction or "pick up" power is surprisingly strong. It can and will pick up pieces that I didn't think it would. We're in the middle of a renovation, so in addition to dirt, fine dust, and the ever-present dog hair, there are also chunks of wood, drywall, etc. on the floor. I've watched Bob (our vacuum's name, per our 4 year old son) scoot around and pick it all up. I can't believe how much dog hair he picks up! Bob is not fantastic around wall edges, although it seems like he's getting better at it - maybe he's "learning" our house? He senses the wall and slows down as he approaches it and keeps about a 2 inch distance from it. He has two rotating brushes that stick out from the sides that sweep in some debris from the edge, but not all. There is no logical pattern to his movements; he just randomly scoots around the living room in different directions. I have noticed that in certain areas he seems to get "stuck" - not under furniture or on cords, but he'll keep going back and forth between the edge of the sofa and the hallway, for example. He eventually figures it out and goes a different direction. He has not yet gotten stuck under any furniture. He's surprisingly quiet. The best way I can describe the noise is the sound of someone using a hairdryer in another area of the house. It didn't interfere with our ability to watch TV at a reasonable volume. You can definitely hear it, but it's not obtrusive. The schedule programming is very easy to do, and is a great feature. I didn't need an app on my phone to do that, so I didn't buy that more expensive model. It works just fine with the remote. I have him scheduled to run in the living room every day at 10am (while we're at work) and on Saturday and Sunday at 3 am (note that the noise does not wake us or our son). Docking: I have not yet come home to find him not on the dock, so he obviously finds it eventually. When I've had him running while I'm home, he seems to wander around for a bit trying to find it. I think the main issue is where the dock is located in relation to where he does the bulk of the cleaning. Once our living room is done and furnished then I'll probably relocate the dock. He has no problem at all moving from our hardwood floor to the large rug and back. He does a fair job of picking things up off the rug. He can't get debris that is "deep" in the rug, but he picks up the surface stuff with no problem. The spot cleaning feature is pretty cool - I tried that out in the kitchen last night while I was cooking. There's an area near my kitchen sink that had a lot of dirt and coffee grounds on the floor (don't ask...), and I put him there and hit the spot cleaning button. He starts spinning around in larger and larger circles in that one area until he senses that he's picked everything up and then moves on in "normal" cleaning mode. It was great having him in there cleaning up while I was cooking. He made a big difference! In general, if you're looking for a robot to deeply and thoroughly clean your floors, this is not it. If, however, you're like me and just want a floor cleaning "helper" to keep things manageable and presentable on a daily basis, then this is a great unit at a great price. I'm really curious to see how he does once all of the ladders, tools, and construction debris are gone. I will post a follow up review in a few months!

Best Robot Vacuum on the Market
This is the best robot vacuum on the market. Period. Ive had an iRobot and a Roborock. The iRobot was a decent cleaner but had horrible navigation. The Roborock had excellent navigation but cleaned horrendously. The Roborock actually made my apartment look worse as left these dust bunnies all over so the navigation is pointless if it cant clean. The Shark is perfect in my mind. Best cleaning i have ever seen from a robot vacuum and navigation is great (not quite as good as Roborock) it cleans the 600 sq. ft. area I have it set to clean in 1 hour. It navigates a space with multiple obstructions and different surface levels and not once have I gotten a notification about it being stuck or lost. Another unique feature: is the dust bin. It is a reusable dust bin that you can empty yourself and reuse. No need to buy these 1 time use dust bags that all the other brands require. Massive cost savings over time. The app has all the features you need. Set a cleaning schedule, create rooms, create no go zones, set suction level. Simple but thats all you need. Bottom Line: I need a vacuum that cleans my place effectively and does it without me ever having to think about it. The Shark is the only robot vacuum that has been able to deliver on this. The schedule is set and when I get home my apartment is clean. Buy this vacuum if thats what you need.

Way Better Than Roomba!
My husband first bought me an updated Roomba that had the mop/vacuum combo for Mother’s Day. He bought a brand new one but they shipped him a refurbished one. We contacted them and they said try it out and if we want to keep it, they’ll refund the difference. The mop feature never worked and it wouldn’t map out my house or let me create rooms. So, we sent it back and got a full refund and looked at other options. We wound up with the Shark vac/mop combo with the same self emptying bin (but has no bags to buy like Roomba). Oh.my.gosh! This brand is SOOOO much better than Roomba. I can create carpet zones, no go zones, and the set up and instructions are in the app unlike Roomba where you have to download the instructions separately from the app. PLUS, you can adjust the suction of the vacuum and intensify the mop. AND Shark has a heppa filter which is extremely important with my son’s allergies. Roomba needs to catch up!! They have zero no go zones or carpet zones for mopping. And they require you to purchase bags for the self empty bin. I’ll never go back to a Roomba!

Decent vaccum unit, problematic software
I have some experience with robot vacuums, from an old roomba shop vacuum cleaner, to a recent Samsung robot vacuum. I lost my Samsung to the Marshall fire, so purchased this Shark robot vacuum to replace it. My wife & I had a Shark stick vacuum that we loved, so we thought to give the Shark 911S EZ a try. It cost only $299 at the time I bought it ~25 days ago. First, the good: The ability of the robot to return to the base and recharge, AND empty its (tiny) dustbin into the base station's dust bin is fantastic. I used the app to program the Shark robot to clean every day at 13h00, so the tiny dustbin doesn't over fill. (If you only vacuum once per week, the robot's dustbin might choke before returning to evacuate contents to the base?) The app will actually develop a floor map of where the robot has cleaned. Tech support is available and the agents speak understandable English....but see below. Second, the bad: The software that drives this unit AV911S EZ appears to be glitchy. I've made 5 phone calls for tech support in 25 days, spending well over 4 hours trying to get the robot to operate as designed. It was quite time consuming to get the robot, my wifi, and the app to communicate. I paid $299 for my model, which has the docking station and attempts to clean in a logical pattern as it builds up a map of your floor plan. This model does not have the AI (Artificial Intelligence) that some very similar Shark models have. This is VERY IMPORTANT, because when you set up the software, the app will ask to choose between AI model and non-AI model. They both have the same docking station, so do not go by the picture on the screen, just remember that AV911S EZ is not AI, so choose "No". [Initially the robot would not return to its base. The tech support agent instructed me to delete everything and start from scratch. As the agent guided me through the set up, the question about AI came up and this 2nd time I choose "no" instead of "yes". The end result was that the robot was able to return to its docking base.] There was still difficulty in pairing the app, the wifi, and the robot. By the statements made by the agent, I gathered that this is a glitchy process that must be repeated until it works. I won't recount the few hours of frustration when the robot would simply run out its battery and stall, as these may have been due to an incorrect set up. If you buy this unit, do yourself a favor and have the agent talk you through the initial set up of the software....there are several places where even a tech-savvy consumer is forced to guess what to do. Once the robot was paired over wifi with the app, I was able to set a daily cleaning schedule. The robot has rather weak suction compared to my previous Samsung robot, but as the Shark cleans every day, I think it gets a fair amount of dirt. Don't expect miracles: If you run an AC-powered floor vacuum over the rug after a pass by Shark robot, don't be surprised to see a HUGE amount of dirt in the dust cup of the AC vacuum. Its hard to objectively compare vacuum efficiency, but I can say that Shark robot picks up only half as much dirt as the Samsung robot (my previous model is no longer for sale, or I would have bought it again.) But... the large dust cup on the Samsung had to be emptied after every cleaning, whereas the Shark returns to its dock and transfers dust/dirt to the base station. Another bad point: The Shark needs a lot of attention. Several times during the past few days it has given an stopped cleaning with an app error message that its "cliff sensors are blocked". I followed the cleaning instructions and see no dirt on the cliff sensors of this nearly-new unit. Another error message is that Robot's bumper got stuck while trying to clean. Instructions are to "clean the bumper and make sure it moves freely in and out." I see no evidence of obstruction in the bumper. I believe that these are software glitches. I've spoken to the agents about software issues, asking whether these glitches will be fixed, and when. They seem to understand that the software that drives the AV911S EZ requires a lot of attention. They do not criticize their own product, but they thinly disguise the need to call in for tech help frequently. They urge me not to return the product to Amazon, but to file warranty claims. I'm not willing to rely on the warranty. Why don't I trust the warranty? Because if the software is buggy and Shark doesn't intend to fix it, I would spend lots of time working with Shark tech support, until the time I spend far exceeds the time I would've spent vacuuming manually! Yes, the agents are patient and helpful. But at least three times they've told me to uninstall everything and reinstall. This is quite time-consuming. My Shark model was significantly less expensive ($299) than the same model now (25 days later)... Now it is $420. Is this the same model, or is it updated? Who can say? I ask these questions but cannot get answers. Speaking to the point of excessive time: This Shark Robot saves time by emptying its dust bin into the base every time robot returns to the base. The robot requires you to keep your house neater than you might have in the past, as stray objects will interfere with the robot's path--a blessing in disguise. But....I realize that in the month I've owned the robot, I've spent more time futzing with it than I would have spent simply vacuuming the floor and rugs!!! I love gadgets, and robot vacuums are cool, but I really want it the robot to SAVE me time. I am probably going to return this within the 30-day grace period because I don't want to be stuck with a product that may not ever be able to work properly. I would keep it if I had assurance that software bugs were being fixed, but it is not possible to determine this. Today, a decent product is not enough; everything seems to be software driven. If the software is problematic, the whole product becomes problematic.

Wow
Honestly I was close to sending it back. It’s not very fast. What surprised me was the amount that it actually cleaned up. We have 5 dogs and it’s shedding time. The collection chamber was about 75% full in a week. I’m rather impressed.

Highly recommend getting this!
Absolutely love this vacuum. It is my first robot vacuum, but I’m thoroughly impressed and I don’t know how I lived with out one before. It isn’t the most quiet vacuum, but I just have it running while I’m doing errands. It’s lovely that you can schedule it so that it vacuums when you’re out of the house or at night it’s pretty powerful. It picks up my dog’s hair great. surprisingly gets into more nooks and crannies than I thought it would, including under the counters.

Do not buy this vacuum
Mine quit working 2 months after buying and of course I missed the return period. Shark Australia doesn’t sell this specific vacuum so they wouldn’t do anything about it. So hard to return faulty products now and there’s rules you don’t know exist when buying online, currently looking for somewhere on amazon to get help. I thought amazon was better than this. Shop Australian.
