Extremely easy for newbie seniors into technology.
Bought for my 84yr old father whos hands shake. Causing him to not be able to dial a regular phone. We love everything about it. He hated anything technology related but this totally converted him. For starters it has its own wifi. You do not need to purchse seperate wifi. The icons are easily 1 1/2 inch square. Easy to see and manipulate with shaking hands. Stylus helps as well. Sound can be turned up super loud for those who are hard of hearing. The phone feature allows for normal calls or video calls with a simple touch of a bitton that even a newbie can do without any difficulty. Being able to send photos to my dad is so nice since he can actually touch to view and they will play on their own. The talk feature for sending messages is awesome, that way they dont even have to touch a keyboard!!! At 84 my father was able to send his first message ever without any help!! He was so excited. We were able to find a refurbished grandpad on amazon for a fraction of the cost. Huge thank you to the gal who helped us by answering all of our questions so that we were comfortable purchasing and as luck would have it, we were able to talk to the same gal once it came to help us set it up. No doubt she absolutely loved her job!! My only advise is, dont hesitate if your considering purchasing. I just dont understand why these are not sold in stores?? If they were, they would be the number one seller for seniors who want to be connected with their families. There are many extra options on the tablet such as games, music and many more things. It even has a help button where they will instantly be conected to an actual LIVE person who can help them with any questions. There is even a person assigned to that tablet who will call and check on the owner if it hasnt been used in a few days!! I seriously cannot even say enough about this fantastic product A+++ from us!!!

The BEST for dementia patients!!! Excellent customer support!!
My Mom has Alzheimer's. As she's declined, she's become unable to use any phone or tablet. This has been a lifesaver to keep her occupied, to distract her, and to take on appointments for use in the waiting rooms - think of the way you'd occupy a toddler. The user interface is super-simplistic! And, as her administrator, I've been able to modify her accessible options as her disease has changed. At one time, she could do email - and there's an email app. But as the disease progressed, email became more frustrating than positive for her, so, I removed that app. She loves the specially curated short stories, the mood settings that are just looped sound and video, and her favorite thing is the picture slide show, to which all of her relatives contribute photos. I wish we'd found this sooner, as I think it really could have lasted her for a long time - even being relevant when she was still getting around on her own. When we're waiting in doctor's offices, this is the go-to distraction - there are games like checkers and cards that we play together while waiting. And the music that is available is phenomenal! My Mom loves music, and there's something to fit every mood.I've spoken to customer service several times with questions - I don't think I've EVER had a better customer service experience! They want to help - they care about your loved one and their ability to successfully use this tablet! I was amazed! BUY IT FOR YOUR PERSON!!! You won't be sorry!!

RIP OFF
The refurbished items are from 2017. They don't tell you that you have to establish a $40 per month dedicated cell phone line to be able to use the device. I purchased 2 units and when I turned them on to establish a connection, they each had different phone numbers for me to call to set them up. One of the numbers went to Consumer Cellular and the other number was no longer in service. When the Consumer Cellular service rep looked up the activation code, she told me she could not activate the units because they belonged to a different provider. She was kind enough to give me the contact number for "Grand Pad". so I called "Grand Pad". That service rep said that she may be able to activate the 2 units for me, and she went on to tell me that their monthly service fee per unit was normally $70 but if I went with them "today only"they would give me a $20 off discount per month per unit. That deal would cost $20 more per month! Even then, we still had not determined if the two units were even usable. At that point, I had been tortured enough and decided to return the Grand Pads.

A wonderful item
Easy visually. User friendly. Does much more than extensive research discovered. Planning on getting a second one for my family. Found it refurbished but like new on Amazon for half the price that I saw anywhere else.

GrandPad
I didn’t know I would need a phone service $59.00 which I’m locked into her phone service now. But it sure look cute and easy For Seniors.I have a lot of friends that are not tech savvy, and I think it would be great for them is color-coded, which is nice and easy to use.So maybe in a year and a half of my phone contract is up I might get one for myself .

Expensive, but worth is
My sister recently moved into a AFC home so I needed a cell phone and WiFi for her. Her homecare aide told me about this. Luckily I was able to find a refurbished one at half the price otherwise probably would not have spent the money. The monthly price of the subscription for internet access is a little high, but considering it also includes telephone capabilities its not to bad. My sister has a hearing problems along with limited dexterity. This seems to work for her. I programmed in the telephone numbers she uses and she is able to make and receive calls. Plus the added benefit that only approved numbers can call her eliminating spam calls. Works well for those that can afford it.
