Good socks
These old fashioned socks are the only good fitting socks that don't bind your ankles. They're warm and durable. I wish they were more affordable, though.

My Favorite Socks.
These have been my favorite socks for over 40 years. They are warm, soft and long wearing.

Worn them for 50 years
No, not the same pair of socks for 50 years, but I started wearing them when I was a kid and hated them because they were scratchy. I thought they would drive me crazy but, after 2 weeks I got used to them and have loved my "white wollies" ever since. I'm pretty sure they aren't the same make-up as when I wore them back in those days. I'm not even sure who made them, but Wig-Wam is the only manufacturer I know of these days. They're warm in the winter and cool in the summer and totally cushioney (is that a word?) No they don't last as long as I would want, but they certainly last almost as long as some other socks I've worn, and longer than most other wool socks I've had.If you've never tried these, go for it! But give them a chance, before you trash them... I can't tell, since I'm used to them, but they might take some getting used to (see first sentence.) If you have been using them, I'm preaching to the choire.Wig-Wam makes a heavier sock like this, but I prefer these and they seem to last longer. Since the other ones are thicker, they don't fit into my shoes as well, either. An update from my December 17, 2011 review - "No they don't last as long as I would want, but they certainly last almost as long as some other socks I've worn, and longer than most other wool socks I've had."I have now revised how I wash these socks and it seems to have made a BIG difference. I turn them inside out for washing and do not EVER put them in the dryer. They now last probably three times as long as before!

Not perfect, but will do
Several years ago I ordered some wool socks for my husband from an online company. Those socks were amazing - they were much thinner than regular wool socks, very lightweight, comfortable, and stayed up beautifully. And, in spite of their "flimsiness", they lasted for years. Out of 6 pairs, we still have 3 left - and I think they are about 10 years old. Well, for some reason this company does not make that product any more, so I went on a search for another brand that would measure up. The Wigwam socks are the closest I've found. They are a bit thicker, but very comfortable. The only complaint my husband has is that they do not seem to hug his leg as well - they tend to droop after a full days wear. I will keep searching for a replacement - until then, the Wigwams will do.

Price point
Great product but prices have risen too dramatically.

Wig-Warm and dry!
Thought this was a little expensive for one pair of socks, but after wearing them for a couple of days (with hot water washes and drying in the dryer) found that they kept my feet warm, held up well on a 9-mile dog walk (keeping feet dry the entire time) - so I ordered another 4 pair. I can't see going back to cotton socks. They stay up even though there's no elastic - they feel a little loose around the ankles, but they stay up and they don't leave imprinted ridges in your skin like the cotton elastic ones do. They're not bright white, but more of a cream color. I purchased the large size - I wear size 10.5 or 11 shoes.UPDATE 12/1/17 - I now have about 10 pairs of these and none are showing any signs of wearing out soon. These wool socks are the only socks I wear now. The only slight downside is that the pairs show slightly different coloring from other pairs after repeated washings. I'm guessing that it's the natural quality of the wool, but I do have to sort through them when they come out of the wash to pair them up with their like-colored mates. Not a big deal and definitely worth the comfort and warming/cooling benefits of these socks, plus the fact that they don't strangle my ankles.

My 625s are the standard for merino wool socks.
Just the right thickness to be warm without bulk.

Warm, comfy, but expensive
I ordered these foolishly thinking it would be more than one pair.. I should have read better. They do seem nice but my feet heat up really quick wearing them, so I would definitely only wear them in winter. I just wish they weren't so pricey, I would order more.

Great all-purpose sock ...but too expensive!
For the price, I expected 3 pairs of these wonderful all-purpose wool socks. I was blown away to discover that £13 (>$20) got me only a single pair! Padlocks to that! (as they discretely say here on Amazon.co.uk).
