This is a WONDERFUL kit for everyone, but especially beginners. The silver and gold jump rings come a lots of useful sizes and it includes one of those bending rings, which is also such a great tool for messing around with jump rings.The gold is a really bright gold but it's better than not having gold at all. Also, this is great because ppl can get used to different sizes instead of often buying one size at a time at craft stores.I can't speak to the tarnish resistance, but I am so happy I bought this kit! And I'm glad it didn't have any clasps because I don't need that--just jump rings!
