This "Good Enough" Tacklife random orbital sander is very, very good indeed
For a good couple of years, I used the old Black & Decker random orbital sander. 20 years ago, I didn't know any better. And I wouldn't have then - and I guess I wouldn't now - buy one of the really nifty brands for myself. Why? Well, to say that I'm a DIYer is giving me a compliment I don't deserve - I'm a poopie head (grandfather talk) with projects. And I didn't do a lot of projects. I was working. I had "a profession". No time. Very important in my own mind. You get the picture. So now, in my 70s, and especially during this Covid pandemic, I have lots of time. Can't play pickleball. Can't, or won't, watch the news. Tired of stewing over stuff. You get the picture. And my sweetie's brother-in-law, who is very good with wood, gives us this beautiful piece of cedar. So me and the sweetie stare at it, and we decide to make a table for the screened porch. Beautiful cedar grain. Know what I mean?Plenty... plenty!... to sand. The old B&D is doing it. OK. But my hand, and especially my wrist, get tired after a few minutes. And the dust catcher on the B&D is worthless. Might as well use that black little bag to hold a chaw since there is no dust inside it. Plus I'm coughing and sneezing and... umm... hawking my way to loogie land. Years of smoking (remember Luckies?), plus years of hay fever: I have "twitchy airways", my doctor tells me.So I decide to get another random orbital sander. I read up on just about all of them, even the expensive (around $100 or more) ones. I decided on the Tacklife. I already have one of their dremel-type machines, which works great. The price didn't strain my self-image or my fixed income. There were at least two YouTubes by people who seemed reputable saying it was worth the money (even though in each case Tacklife sent them, free, a sander to evaluate).I figured the Tacklife random orbital sander was "good enough" for me. I was wrong. It is GREAT for me. And I think it would be for you, too.First of all, the dust catcher actually works. It really picks up just about all the grit, even with a 240 grit disc. Makes my breathing easier. My nose doesn't run while sanding. I'm not sneezing and coughing. But you really have to try the design and hold this thing and use it. I'm thinking that the "center of gravity" and the "center of percussion" are just about on the same axis through the tool. So there is no sense of weight, and almost no vibration. Controlling it is easy. You just let the weight of the sander be the force, and it will be with you. (Couldn't resist). You don't use your wrist to control anything, like with the B&D. You just lay your hand on top of the Tacklife, resting it lightly, and guide it with the big muscles of arm and shoulder. So you don't fatigue.I played around with the variable speeds on the Tacklife. I'm not sure I know what I'm doing with them. But I did feel very proud of myself when I used the dial. My sweetie was impressed by that, and I mean, impressed a lot. I did not tell her I had no idea what I was doing.Bottom line: the Tacklife random orbital sander is absolutely worth the money. It is way better than "good enough". It is "best": best for my purposes, best for my dollars, best for my self-image (and that's important when you are old).I have no problem recommending the Tacklife random orbital sander without qualification. I mean, I don't know what I would get with a DeWalt or a Bosch. But now, I have no interest in finding out. I'm happy.

Speeds up DIY projects
I do a lot of DIY projects, and though I had always used sandpaper manually, it was time for me to look into automated sanders to help with the larger items I was building. At the same time, I did not want to spend a fortune before I knew whether or not one would be used often enough. So, I bought this one before I would spend more on brand-name, professional-grade sanders. To my surprise, this sander works very well, definitely has been speeding up my projects, and feels like it has been made of good quality. With that said, since this is a brand I had never heard of before, once it breaks, I will probably be buying a brand-name sander unless this one lasts for years. Only time will tell, but so far I am pleasantly surprised and happy with it.If you found this review helpful, please hit the "Yes" button to encourage me to write more. Thank you!

Hard working, as good as major name brands.
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. Love this sander so far. So many projects I've used this with, and it still runs strong all day long. Used on drywall, and refinishing some kitchen cabinets so far.. It would be better with a bag dust collector instead of the plastic container. But for an overall performance this is awesome, semi quiet, and runs as good as a major name brand just $100 bucks less. It has paid for itself already.I used 60 grit sandpaper and sanded off 2 coats of turquoise green and the clear coat under that in no time (video shown below)

Great For Basic Sanding, Dust Collecter Irritating
Overall, this is a great little sander. I had a large sanding project, pre-sanding deck boards and posts before pre-staining. A fair bit of the wood was in rather rough condition, and I didn’t want it to look that bad. It had to at lease be barefoot safe, and cedar posts all come very rough and need to be sanded, no matter what. So, I had to load up with everything from 40 grit to 80 grit, (you don’t want higher than that for proper stain absorption), and get sanding the piles of boards. Now, I already have a DeWalt sander. I do so much sanding, I actually wore out my first Dewalt years ago,and got another one. It’s a great sander. I got this one because I needed a helper to get through the monuments task. . The sanding job was far too big to do alone, and I really didn’t want to spend a lot of money on something I didn’t need long-term. However, this held up and did just as well as the DeWalt as far as actual sanding. The difference is the switches turn on the opposite direction, no big deal and actually a plus when using both at once (mirror motion), and there’s just a very slight bit of difference in the smoothness, but not even remotely worth the price difference, and the only way of noticing the difference is to actually have one in each hand and use them both at the same time. When I did not have help around, I used them both together to expedite the process. It held up and kept up with the DeWalt. I’ve seen a complaint about a short cord, it’s the same length as the DeWalt. I used extension cords, most people do when they’re using power tools, unless it’s their table saw or chopsaw plugged into the wall. The only downside is the aggravating dust collector. I like the push and turn removal of the DeWalt bag, this collector is hard plastic, which at the outset seems like a good idea, seems like it would contain better than the fabric bag, but it does not come up easily. It’s an aggravating fight to get it off, and irritating to get the dust out of it looking and shaking at it. If I had had a shop vac or something handy (I kill those off with so much use as well), I’d maybe have tried to hook it up to a vacuum hose. That probably would been irritating for function, since the boards were very long, and there was a lot of movement in this sanding job, rather than what one would do in just a single workpiece like furniture or something. It worked best to just have one person at each end of the long board and sand towards each other in the center, rotating the board to the next side as we went along. So, the dust collection thing wouldn’t be as big an issue if you’re not trying to constantly empty it, but for overall performance otherwise, no complaints at all, and a good deal for the cost. Choosing quality sandpaper is a big deal; I got various types and various grits as needed, and one brand had a really great surface, durable and rough to get the posts down quickly to be able to switch to a higher grit, but...the hook side was horrible, so it was a crapshoot as to whether they’d stay on at all. I say this because if you aren’t happy with how fast your sanding project is going, it’s your sandpaper, not the sander. When I got a different kind, same grit, but just actually stayed on the sander, of course it went much more quickly.

No Risk, no fun.
