Q: Verizon just told me as long as the phone is unlocked and the sim card fits it will work. can anyone verify?

NO. Verizon uses CDMA technology, the Xperia is a GSM only phone. Some phones can work with either, but this is not the case. If you have Verizon already, you will need to switch carriers in order to get service for this phone. I switched to AT&T for just this reason. The Verizon employee you spoke to was either lying or ignorant which could have led to a very expensive mistake if you aren't willing to change your carrier. (This is also the reason Verizon no longer carries Sony phones in store.)

Q: Does it come with a fingerprint sensor?

There is so much misinformation in these answers. First of all, yes you can enable the fingerprint sensor by flashing a non-US firmware. However, to say there is absolutely no difference other than the fingerprint sensor is not true - in flashing a non-US firmware, you lose any provider settings that were unique to the US firmware, such as T-Mobile VoLTE and WiFi calling. The good news is that somebody on XDA made a flasher where you can mix/match firmware bits and flash to get the best of both worlds. I flashed the German firmware, but overwrote part of it with a file from the US firmware to get both fingerprint and T-Mobile VoLTE/WiFi calling all working together. There is a large thread about this on the XZ1C XDA forum. Additionally, you do NOT lose DRM keys by flashing a different region's firmware. You only lose DRM keys (and camera functionality) when you unlock the bootloader - which is done for rooting and/or flashing custom ROMs. Again, simply flashing non-US firmware will not affect DRM keys whatsoever. Hope this helps set the record straight.

Yes it does work. Verizon LTE uses bands 13, 2 , and 4 . Now look what bands this device supports.

Q: is there a dual sim version of the compact?

No, there is not. There were rumors that one would be released, but Sony never released one. However, you can get a dual SIM version of the full-size XZ1.
