Nice bags to freeze my home grown chickens.

I really like these bags. They allow me to get the majority of air out of the bag and seal in any marinade seasoning or juices. The only thing I struggle with is that to clos the bag you use a zip tie. Once you shrink and tie it is fairly easy to freeze, but when I have thawed some items, there has been leakage. I had a vacuum sealer, but it recently began giving inconsistent sealing. I would be interested to see if I could seal the bag and then shrink it in hot water. If I replace my sealer I will provide feedback. Overall I think these bags are worth a try. Sealing meat that has no juices or marinade seem to work just fine, maybe look for another solution for an air tight seal.

The Houseables Poultry Shrink Freezer Bags are amazingly strong, they appear to be excellent quality. You're supposed to poke a small hole in the bag, but it's so tough I had difficulty piercing it. It's possible I might have been successful poking a hole in it with a sharp knife, but I had visions of slicing the bag open and sending a raw chicken sliding across my kitchen. I snipped the bag with scissors to play it safe. They’re a generous size too. There was a lot of extra room left in my bag, so I could have put a much larger chicken in them. Unfortunately my bag didn't seal properly, but I think that was the result of “user error” and not the fault of the product.These bags came with labels too so there's no guessing when an item was stored. I believe food sealed in these (if done properly) will stay fresh much longer. They're thick enough to provide considerable protection. It may take a little more practice for me to get it right, but I'm very impressed with these bags.****About me: Integrity is very important to me. These bags will fit chickens but not turkeys, and i even have small ones that still wouldnt fit.Despite what the title says, only buy these for chickens!

I like the bags themselves and they feel high quality and you get a large quantity of them. The sizing is adequate for smaller poultry or pieces of meat but way too small to fit something as large as a turkey. My biggest concern is that the instructions have you dunk the meat while wrapped in the bag to get the shrink effect. This is both a bit time consuming and raises some questions on the potential of thawing food. For the average consumer I've decided that these probably aren't necessary as meat usually comes pre-wrapped but would be a decent option for a small business or someone who gets some meat from less common sources (butcher, hunter, etc).
