Vive Forearm Crutches (Pair) - Adjustable, Lightweight Arm Crutches Forearm

Sometimes a need a walker, but for some reason a walker strains my lower back and causes me to stumble more frequently, so I use these forearm crutches most of the time. I purchased these crutches about 1.5 years ago. I think these crutches work better than a walker as I have a greater ability to widen or narrow my support during my instability. The price was reasonable and they are strong and attractive, and lightweight. I originally purchased two sets but due to the low price I now have three. One set is for everyday use and they look beat up. One set has ice grips on them for use during the winter, and one set is used for church/dress/socializing during good weather. You absolutely need to find a good supplier for the rubber tips as they wear out very frequently. Sometimes the original BLACK tips last a few days or a month. I rotate them so they wear more evenly. The tips are like suction cups when new, but when they wear they get really slick. The original tips are lightweight, but the most they have lasted me is a month. I found a supplier for the grey tips (heavier & ugly) at a significant discount and they last two to three times longer than the original/black aftermarket supplies and are a fraction of the cost. I use a 7/8” grey tip with a plain rubber hose inside to make the tip fit tight to the crutch and so they do not come off easily. Also, I added a paracord because I dropped my crutches frequently, or did not have the wrist strength when my forearm was not against the saddle. The paracord in the forearm section really adds strength, stability, and confidence while using them. The paracord also adds convenience while opening doors, carrying them, storing them, grabbing them, etc., or preventing them from dropping to the floor, or retrieving them from the floor or wall corner with the other crutch. The paracord allows me to bind my forearm into the crutch and literally make the crutch an extension of my arms and I can confidently use the crutch for support while holding a drink in my hand because my forearm is bound in the saddle via the cord. Photos depict my daily driver, winter set, and dress set. Obviously, the most used set is worn, unsightly, and damaged, but my life is SO much more enjoyable with the forearm crutches. I highly recommend them.

As someone with a connective tissue disorder, all my joints dislocate multiple times a day. I deteriorated to the point walking outside of my own home became dangerous. I started using my wheelchair anytime I left the house. It gave me freedom back to some extent but I was trapped in the chair. Normal (auxiliary) crutches were not an option due to the pain and dislocations I experienced in my upper body, the lack of stability, and inconvenience of their size. I researched forearm crutches and I decided to buy a pair. The very fancy crutches wouldn't be in stock for another few months and I bought this pair until then. It's been life changing. I walk upright with these as compared to normal crutches, no hunching over. There's barely any pain in my upper body from using these, only my palms hurt after extended use. I've been able to move freely and confidently with less pain! I even went through grocery shopping entirely on these crutches. They are sturdy, sleek, and functional. I cannot recommend these more. Additional notes: Anyone under 5' might want to reconsider using these as I at 5' could only adjust these just small enough for me! Adding a strap between the holes might be a good option so you can use your hands without dropping the crutch or finding a place to set it down. Mine is made of duct tape shown in the images I provided. Another consideration is that it takes a little bit to get used to using another form of mobility aid and that there a learning curve. Edit after long use: The reflecter peices come off with man handling, but this does not effect the main functionality of the crutches (mobility). The tips wear out fairly quickly with weight bearing. I weigh 115, so if youre heavier, they would wear out even faster. I recommend "Tornado crutch tips" to replace them with. They add SO much grip and some shock absorbsion, which is amazing. They last ages, I've used my crutches near daily for 10 months and the tornado tips barely show any signs of wear. Even grips okay on ice, but ice spike tips would be better if youre going to be doing lots of crutching on ice. You might consider adding padding to the handles for more palm comfort. I have found I don't need it and prefer the plastic, but there are tons of covers made for crutch grips, I'd recommend looking on amazon or etsy for them.

They work well! I like the forearm rest, it’s comfortable. I will say though that I have to keep re-tightening the screws towards the bottom or they made a clicking sound more like underarm crutches. It’s not very loud, and when they are tightened, they’re completely silent, but I’ve been trying to figure out a way to keep them tightened. You’ll probably need a hand grip too, there are lots of options, I got the Vive grips, but I would suggest something that secured to the back because they tend to slip forward and you have to keep adjusting them every few steps. But otherwise, they work well! They’ve helped my pain SOO much, and the price isn’t bad.

I am undecided at this time if I will be returning these.. I am on day 2 of using these and the feet have already degenerated completely. They are absolutely unstable on anything other than carpet in this condition. Fortunately I saw reviews indicating this might happen so I ordered replacement feet when I purchased the crutches. Regarding rest of product... They are very lightweight and with proper upper body strength you can move on one foot very quickly like 3 times faster than id regularly walk. They are obvioualy shorter than conventional crutches which is very convenient when entering or exiting vehicle. The ergonomics are fine except the handles are absolute garbage! Very thin stiff plastic grip with a small digit then abrupt edge. After first day my hands were killing me, this alone had me wanting to return. Reason I am going to continue using for the time being.. The workout... While healing from a broken bone i am not able to workout.. These have forced me to use my upper body and core in a way that I haven't been conditioning otherwise. Plus they are nimble compared to traditional underarm crutches so once conquered I should be pretty fast.. Increase height to increase stride 👍 TLDR. handles will hurt alot but I expect to get used to it after awhile.. Foot grip will fall apart roughly 48 hours after purchase with minor use so purchase extra set from reputable manufacturer... Very light and nimble but unstable without upper body strength ... Overall worthy trial to overcome during recovery..

I have never used a forearm crutch and had tried canes but they did not work for me. I only have to use a right forearm crutch . I wear a long leg brace and the other leg is somewhat weak but does not require a brace at this time. The right crutch helps to make up for the lack of strength in my other leg that does not have a brace. The crutch is light and easy to carry around rather than use a walker. So far so good!!

Update: One crutch broke abruptly after a few months of use and I was lucky to not get hurt. The height adjustment pin that holds the top and bottom parts of the crutch broke (see pics). I contacted customer service and had the unpleasant surprise to be told that they warranty their crutches for only 60 days (!?!). I was offered a 10% discount on a new order. I asked to buy only one crutch, because I only need one, the other one being fine, but they refused. Considering the crutches are now more expensive than when I bought my original pair, my only option is to buy two new crutches (one not needed) for more money than my original purchase because their product couldn't even last a year. Other companies sell individual crutches, likely with better warranty and arguably with better build quality. I will avoid Vive Health products from now on. I bought those to replace some light weight canes that are old and tend to destroy tips in a matter of days for some reason, and another pair that is very heavy and sturdy but is starting to fall apart (and damages everything it falls on). These canes are extremely light weight and the arm rest are very soft, so when they fall or hit a wall or furniture, they won't leave any trace (unlike my heavy canes that destroy everything around them). Because they are very light weight, they do tend to slide off surfaces they are leaning on and fall a lot (from resting on something, not in use !), but I am fine with this. They are also very comfortable to walk around, somehow the padding dampens the impact with the floor extremely well. Overall I like them a lot and I hope they will not chew through tips like my other smaller canes did (I have used them for ~ 1 week only). I removed one star because of one "cheap" aspect that is not acceptable: the wholes in the arm rests are not properly "deburred", the edges are sharp and really unpleasant on the arms.

A most unexpected problem with this order for a PAIR of crutches. The plastic packaging inside the cardboard Amazon box was ruptured, and one of the two crutches which should have been in the package had dropped out somewhere along the way. Barcodes and labelling was for a pair of crutches, so obviously the robots had processed the order in accordance with their programming. Opening the product presented me with a dilemma. I didn't want to leave my injured knee unsupported for any more days, and having the one crutch available is really helpful. This meant that I didn't want to return the one crutch which arrived, but there was still the issue of the missing one! The automated AI customer service system at Amazon couldn't cope with this query at all, locking itself into a loop asking whether I wanted a replacement or return and refund. There is no box to tick for 'partial replacement' and I needed to keep the one crutch I had received. Finally, I was able to find Amazon's helpline number and speak with a real person. The agent I spoke with was great. In the end, it was agreed that I would keep the one crutch I had and apply for a 50% refund for the missing one. I was really happy with that, as returning anything bulky is a big problem with a knee injury! And I need the crutch I've got. So big thumbs up to the Amazon customer service lady who is sorting this out. But memo to the manufacturer: whilst the crutch is ideal, the plastic packaging it (half) came in is unfit for purpose. It looks like it ruptured very easily during in the (automated?) packing process, allowing one crutch to fall out. I guess it ended up on the floor of an Amazon packing warehouse somewhere? I recommend more robust packaging for this otherwise excellent product.

The extension for height is brilliant as I’m tall and I liked the colour and the lightweight, also that the sticks don’t clank when you use them! However the arm brace didn’t feel secure, I was concerned that I might lose my balance and I felt it would become a problem that if I reached out for a door handle the crutch would fall unless I remembered to prop it up or take in the other hand….. and the hand grip is not as long as standard crutches nor is it very comfortable. On balance for me the negatives outweighed the positives and I returned them for a refund.
