Star Wars Shaver Gives An Outer Space Shave
First don't make the mistake that I did when I opened the box and looked at the shaver. I thought Amazon sent me a totally used shaver because of how the paint was worn off of the handle. Not so. This is a Star Wars looking shaver and was styled as such. In looking at the photo on the box it was the same.As for the shaver. The instructions said that the user should shave with this shaver until the skin gets used to the new system (21 days) before making any judgement on the quality of shave. This turned out to be not true. My very first shave totally surprised me as to the closeness and the smooth shave. I've been using electric and razor shavers for years and this shaver did a great job on the first try, close to a razor shave. I had electric shavers in the past that did a pretty good job (not as good as the Star Wars Poe) but after a couple of weeks the shave was not quite as good. The Star Wars shaver (almost a month later) is still doing a great job (dry shaving). Very smooth finish. The rotating head/blade heads swivels enough to reach all the whiskers. The indentation between the two heads (there are three in total) just fits on each side of the nose so again it reaches the normally hard to get at places. While it is recommended to stretch the skin to keep the skin from "rolling" I didn't find that necessary as the shaver glided quite well over my skin. I suspect that if the face is damp this then would tend to pull and stretching the skin would help. But I didn't find it necessary on dry skin.A good feature is the status of the battery.charge status indicator. With past shavers I can't tell you how many times the shaver just quit in the middle of a shave and then had to get the cord to complete the shave and then charge the battery. So this is a nice feature. However, IF you forget to look at the battery status indicator and the battery runs dead the manual says you can't shave while the unit is plugged in for charging. Not sure why this is but it is.Also featured is a "Turbo" setting. Pressing this button speeds up the blades and is supposed to give you a quicker and "more powerful" shave but I didn't really see any major differences between this setting and the normal setting.Cleaning the shaver/blades is very easy. Just pop off the blade housing, brush out the drive base, and place the blade housing under warm water....the warmer the better. This I assume will wash away any oils that may accumulate on the blades. After rinsing I blow off any excess water then snap on the blade head onto the main unit and that is it. I was disappointed though that Norelco did not include a cleaning brush. Fortunately I had one from a previous shaver that I owned. The shaver comes with a trimmer which works very well. The trimming blades are much closer than on my older shavers and therefore does a better job. However, on my older shavers this feature was built into the shaver and it was one less thing to store and was very convenient to use. On this shaver the trimmer comes as an attachment so you have to remove the main shaving head, then insert the trimmer attachment, use it then reverse the process. While the trimmer works better than my old units I still prefer it to be built in the shaver rather than being an attachment. The trimmer does not come with a blade protector so here again it is subject to damage and there is no convenient way or storing it in the case along with the shaver. So it could flop around during travel. The shaver comes with a nice case. This is a hard case and not one that just covers the shaver which offers no protection to the shaver. I just wish the case had a storage area for the trimmer attachment as well as the charger so they can be secured/stored properly.Okay now for some of the less important items about the Star Wars shaver.* When shaving there has been several times when I must have hit the ON/OFF switch as the shaver turned OFF. Maybe this was due to how I used to hold my old shavers so I need to hold this one differently or maybe the next design needs to place this switch in another area. Not a big issue but just wanted to mention it.* The shaver does NOT come with a protective plastic cover for the blade. To me this is a necessity as accidents do happen and given the price of blades the shaver should come with a protective blade cover. Same for the trimmer attachment.* Speaking of the cost of new blades they are about $56! Not cheap which makes the cost of operating the shaver to be about one dollar per week. I guess this is okay IF and this is a big IF the shaver keeps performing reasonably well for a good portion of the yearly replacement cycle. On past shavers new blades work well for a couple of weeks then they are so-so. I'm into my fourth week of shaving and the results are really good but time will tell.* This issue is not unique to the Norelco shaver but to everything I purchase and that are the international icons/symbols that are supposed to represent something that we should know. Like the circle with a bar is supposed to mean the turn ON/OFF switch. Sorry engineers but I never understand what these symbols means and therefore they are useless to me. Most don't even come close in trying to giving you a hint as to what it means. Got to get the manual out for sure. I understand why this is done but still don't like it because it doesn't work.Yes, I would recommend this shaver. I haven't tried to do a wet shave so I can't comment on that. But overall it is a good shaver and hopefully will continue to provide a close shave for months to come.Update:It has been seven months since I purchased the shaver and it is still giving close, smooth shaves. This is much better than any previous shaver that I've owned. I clean the shaver head under hot water after each shave and clean out the whiskers out of the head and that is it. This is impressive.

Impressive razor with great features for your hard earned dollar!
Let me preface this review by saying that I've been out of the electric razor game for a while now, having been strictly a blade user for quite some time. However, electric razors and their blade technology and features have come a LONG way since I stopped using them. I became very interested in getting another for this very reason, in addition to the obvious added convenience and time saved shaving, with a lot less mess and cleanup involved. And I'm glad that I did, because this razor is fantastic! Is it as close as a blade, no. But, it sure is very, very darn close when using a pre-electric shaving lotion like Afta or Lectric Shave. On just the first use alone, I was VERY surprised at the closeness of the shave when the razor was used properly. The model numbering of the SW6700 is very odd since it has all the features of the high end models (V-Track Pro Blades, 8 Direction Head) minus the comfort speed setting found on the SW9700, replaced with a turbo+ speed mode on the SW6700, which allows for a faster spinning of the blades and an allegedly smoother shave experience, which I agree with, though I've found the standard speed mode to be quite comfortable, quiet and effecient to use.In fact if you compared Philips' 8000 and 7000 series razors to the SW6700, which is considered a 6000 series, the SW6700 comes ahead of both in terms of features and performance and actually costs less too, and you get the cool Star Wars design to boot, which is nice. This is a very confusing series and pricing from Philips but it works for me. You are certainly getting a lot of bang for your buck here, considering many of the SW6700's features are only available in the flagship line of razors from Phillips that cost considerbaly more. I've listed some of the model/feature details below for you to see for your self.Series 9000:V-Track Pro Blades (S9721 or SW9700)V-Track Precision Blades (S9531 and S9311)8 Direction HeadComfort Speed Settings (Low, Normal and High)Series 8000:V-Track Precision Blades8 Direction HeadSeries 7000:V-Track Pro Blades (SW7700)Gentle Precision Blades (S7710 or S7371)5 Direction HeadSeries 6000 (only model available SW6700):V-Track Pro Blades8 Direction HeadTurbo+ Speed modeThe SW6700 is cheapest of all the above shavers compared, offers all the best features needed to be a top end shaver (except for the series flagship model that Philips suggests) and it has the Star Wars design. If you're on the fence about this razor in comparison to all of the other pricier models about it, do it! This is a really great razor at a good price that comes with a very sturdy, substantial, carrying case and trimmer attachement. If poised to purchase this razor again, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm very satisfied with the product as whole. Lots of substance to be had here and not just flash from the Star Wars design. Solid choice no doubt!

Doesn't catch chin and produces smooth shave
UPDATE SEPT 2018: It's been 3 months and my husband is just as pleased as ever! This one is the best he's has so far for closeness and no nicks or pain. Asking him what he thought about me getting one for my legs, he did admit it probably wouldn't be as smooth as I'd get with a manual razor (oh well). It holds a charge well and he shaves several times before needing a recharge. Once I figured out how to disassemble it to clean, he's had no trouble cleaning it at all. I haven't heard a razor complaint since I bought this one for him.*** PURCHASE JUNE 2018: Purchased this for my husband, whose much lower level Philips Norelco razor would catch on his chin and didn't shave very close (it was only a few months old). He's only had the Special Edition Star Wars Poe a couple days but said he loves it. He doesn't care anything about it being a Star Wars item. His interest was a razor that worked and didn't hurt. I selected the Star Wars based on description and reviews (and I reviewed a bunch of razors before selecting this one.) He says this one doesn't catch his chin at all, it runs very easily over his face, and it produces a smooth shave. He's really pleased with it - I think he was surprised a razor could work this well. I'm thinking of getting one for my son in law, and maybe even me for my legs. :) I've asked my husband to keep me posted on how his razor continues to work so I can update if necessary.

Excellent shave, best i've had, switched from Braun years ago.
My aging philips plug in shaver has served me well. 10 years without new blades. yes they are self sharpening, but there's a limit. New blades were $40, tried some cheap substitutes and returned them, so i decided to get this as the price keeps on dropping and is below 90 CAD now after father'S day, and much more expensive in the US. As others have explained, its a top of the line, 8 direction head V-pro blades that usually comes on the 9000 series. And it works very well. My old razor could barely get the hairs on the neck. This one is excellent top and bottom in one pass. Not crazy about having the separate trimmer, it's the only downside, otherwise stellar product for the price here. Pick it up before Amazon runs out or goes back to the 150 range.

Maravilla
