This hitch step is great ...
I added this bumper-guard step, after my new car got rear-ended ("People, put down your cell phones, and JUST DRIVE ! "). I had just installed a hitch (for a bike rack, at times), so figured I'd add something to the hitch, that might add some 'protection'. I decided to add this bumper guard, hitch step. It doubles as a step, making it easier reach the roof. Handy, when it comes to SUV's.I looked at several models. This one had slightly raised traction stubs/bars, on BOTH the top and bottom sides (some others, only had it on one side) , allowing you to flip it to whichever side you want up. Flipping it, will raise/lower the top height about 1.5". You can also attach a recovery tow strap, if you ever need to.This thing is STOUT. It weighs about 15 lbs. Installing it, took a little force. It was super tight, going into a U-Haul type hitch (Draw-tite). I sprayed the end with silicone spray, and that helped. Some folks have said theirs fit too loose. With all the hitch brands out there, the 'fit' of this item is going to vary. It's to be expected, as hitch measurement tolerances are going to vary. So use some duck tape or shims, etc., or some lubricant spray ... to take care of it being too loose or too tight. Add a hitch tightener, if it helps. All, are cheap solutions.I chose this one, because it looked better ... as it's more rounded on the corners, less pointy. It already looks a bit ... 'unique', so I was looking for something that didn't look too weird. This fits the bill.I added some red tape strips around the outside edges, with a zip-tie to keep the tape from getting thrashed, at the car wash. I added a hitch pin lock, and a hitch tightener (tons of both, sold on Amazon). If a tank hit this thing, it would tear off the hitch, before loosening this hitch step. I mounted it to a dual hitch mount, which allows me to attach a trailer, or cargo basket down below (after removing my bumper-guard, first), and a bike rack up above. I added a chromed Skull hitch cover (and another hitch lock), to keep the upper hole covered, when not in use. Some reviewers complained of early rust. I have none. Even after several months of heavy rain. I'll spray it with a Rustoleum type paint, if/when it shows rust.Try this bumper guard hitch step, you'll like it ! It might take a few days for the overall appearance to grow on you, but then you'll realize how unique/cool it looks. And big-city folks ... this will keep other drivers off your rear bumper, when they're 'attempting' to park.

Heavy Duty
This is a solid chunk of steel. It may be a little slick to step on in the winter, but I really like that it gives me a little room between the car behind me and me. It does show up on my rear backup camera.

Solid as a rock
It’s bomb proof. The only issue is the one that many others have discussed. The insert is a sloppy fit. Some have talked about using tape or wooden shims to take up the slack but don’t want band aids that I’ll have to keep replacing.I have a 120 volt stick welder so what I did was take 5/64 6013 rod and ran two narrow beads lengthwise two on three of the four sides of the insert. then made my adjustments by adding metal or taking it off with a grinder to get the fit I wanted. I also put a small stop on it so the hitch stops on the hole I use when I slide it in. I prefer it all the way in and at the lowest configuration. I use it on my 3/4 ton e-250 work van and I’m in and out of it many times a day and sometimes not all the way in to grab something so I don’t want to be hitting my legs on it. It’ll take so time to get used to it being there but it’s already making things a lot easier. Before I put this on I had to enter the back of the van on my knees then stand up. It sits too high to step into it without this step. I love it.

Heavy and quite solid. Very pleased.
I agree with other reviewers that there is more play when inerted into the hitch. My Toyota 4Runner in no exception to that. I saw at least 3 reviewers that complained about the fit. However i used an approach i have used for other applications that easily tighte ed the fit by installing the hitch, inserting the locking pin, and while holding the step up so the gap is on the underside pound in the narrow edge of a wooden door shim int the gap until it goes as far as possible. Then press down on the shim breaking it off nearly flush to the bottom edge of the reciever. This will dramatically tighten the fit. When you need to change the hitch you can repeat the procedure. A pack of door shims is cheap and they will not scratch the steel. The shim insert will swell and shrink slightly with moist and dry climate but will easily be removed regardless. Because of this easy fix i give the heavy and sturdy design 5 stars. I also live in Minnesota so rust is to be expected and will give its appearance character.

Heavy, Rugged, but Poor Finish
This is a very heavy and rugged piece of metal. It performs well as step, but was purchased mainly to protect the rear bumper of a 2021 Toyota Tundra. By rotating the step180 degrees in the receiver, you get about a 4 inch height differential. I used a few plastic shims to prevent vibration because there was wiggle once installed and pinned. My primary gripe is what a appears to be a low quality finish. I have had the step for about 3 weeks and we have had a couple rains. I have stepped on this step three times, though with the rain and morning dew, I have already begun to notice surface rust in the treads of the step.

Beefy - '21 RAM TRX
I recommend it as of now, picture says more than I can type. I sprayed the hitch part with silicone spray to prevent rust. The outside elements are exposed black powder coat, so we'll see how it does after a few New England winters, salt exposure, etc. I installed a black dogbone style hitch lock to keep it looking clean and keep it on my truck also, highly recommended.Likes:-Packaging, basic.-Easy to install-Solid-Makes a great addition to the RAM hade-away bed step.-Black color blends nicely with the RAM black powder coated bumper and black plastics-Great Grip + Traction-Bumper Protection-nicer on the shins than a typical 'stinger'-Good anchor point for straps for pulling, etcCons:-Heavy, but it needs to be (so this is kind of a pro?)-It is loose in the 2" hitch, 1/32" of play all the way around, but I don't hear it while driving, so all good.

Strong
This is one sturdy well made hitch.Solid metal and has grips to step on, so foot won’t slip. Easy to install and worth every penny. It protects your bumper and can be used as a step.Bought this for my husband for his 2016 GMC pick up truck. He is very happy and absolutely loves the hitch.

Simplicity, Function and Strength
No nonsense, heavy step with nice, professional looking welds. Designed to quickly wrap a tow strap on to pull yourself or a buddy out of trouble and I'm sure the hitch receiver would be the limiting factor. Don't forget to add a hitch clamp as this puppy can be noisy over the bumps.

Wow!!!!!! Just simply The most solid rugged unit!
After buying what I thought a cool unit. I was backed into only weeks later only to dent the unit I bought, but it also took out the cool LED brake/turn lights! So I looked for something more solid! And something that would protect my bumper much better than my first choice!!Well we found it!! My rear bumper is nowProtected with this extremely sold bump step! Also adding a towing feature not able to do with the other unit!Tying off they Kayak much easier, safer, and the bay part is my bumper safer now,Not sure about the guy who backs into me though 😁
